The Morse library is a great institution in the center of Natick. I routinely come here with my…read moredaughter to read books, do puzzles, or play with the toy kitchen or the wooden train. I also sometimes works from the library. There are little quiet nooks next to windows which are ideal for quiet concentrated work. The WiFi is reliable and fast enough, the bathrooms are clean, and there are water fountains. I also often borrow books, either physical or digital copies. The Minuteman Library Network has a ton of books and they will ship them to your library of choice. There are still more things that I haven't yet tried: 3D printing, classes and events, and reserving rooms for my meetings. Finally I have found the staff to be very knowledgeable and pleasant to interact with.

Great library! Very nice staff, has an old school charm without being depressing (like the…read moreFramingham Library) and lots of easy-to-book study rooms. Note, the study rooms are NOT sound proof. I did not realize this and booked one to take meetings on zoom, and was promptly asked to keep my voice down. Oops. Tons of tables around the library to set up and work in addition to the private study rooms. The only drawback is metered street parking only.

A great historical building. If you are interested in architecture or in local history, this…read morelibrary is an interesting stop. It also complements the setting along the Charles River quite well. It is across from the Charles River Coffee shop, allowing my perfect morning of getting breakfast, checking out a book and reading it overlooking the waterfall (inside the library if the weather is not quite right or down at the waterfall otherwise.) In the basement is the historical society museum. Again, this is a great stop if you are interested in local history, or if you just want a low-key place to spend the day. If you have children, keep an eye out for the story hour flag that is outside when stories are being read inside.

My most favorite library ever!…read more Firstly (and probably least importantly) it is in a great old building (but no disabled access, just so as you know). The library itself is pretty much one big room. Which is kind of my favorite part. Because you can bring your kids in, and while they look at kids books/play with toys you can look at books for YOURSELF! Yes, adult books! At most libraries trying to take your young kids to the adult section can be trying. There is no time to look at books. If your kids are really young they're probably running/crawling away or pulling books off shelves. If they're older they are probably bored and fighting. Or asking endless questions. No time to browse there! But at the Bacon Free library they can look at the kids books (or play with toys) while you look at the adult books. My real actual favorite part though, is the staff. They are super friendly and very accepting. And they know their stuff too. You can say "so I heard a bit on the radio the other day about this book that sounded really interesting. I'm not sure who it's by or what the title is, but it was about..." And chances are they'll know what you're talking about. I'm sure other libraries have nice staff too, but due to the small and intimate size of the Bacon Free Library you really get to see and interact with the staff (and like I said they're super helpful!) Now they don't have all the books in the world (although they do have thousands). But they can request any book for you through the Minuteman Catalog, and send you an email once it arrives and is ready for pick up. They have many programs. Our favorites are story hour (Wed & Fri at 10am). Many kids programs at other libraries require you to sign up in advance, and also limit the ages of the children. Which is VERY frustrating if you have kids of mixed ages. What are you meant to do with the other kid while one is in story hour? At the Bacon Free Library it's simple - everyone is welcome! No sign up necessary, just show up at 10am. Art for all (one Friday a month 3-5pm) is also great. The only downside are the hours - they're not open every day at the same hour (budget cuts - they're only there part time now). Check out the website for the hours before you go.

Pros + Part of the…read moreMinuteman Library Network so they can get books for over 40 different libraries + Free library card when you are a resident + On line account to renew and request books + Email reminders for renewing books or updates on your requested book + Books can be borrowed from the other libraries in the group and be sent to any of those locations for pickup + Key chain membership card + Community computers available + Books for sale in the store and most times Monthly on Sat + Staff is pleasant and helpful + Books in many languages + Programs to learn languages + Required Summer reading list for all grades are easy to find, use, check out. (Check out last year's list) + Outside return box + Covered parking garage (but narrow go slow) + Good community info and material available in the hall about events + Get free passes to museums (quite a lot of places to pick from) + Scheduled activites and events each month + Monthly news posting showing events and what is coming up. Cons + I like the separate area for children but I am not crazy about going up and down and having my children scattered through the library with two different check out areas. + I don't like paying a $1 for an old movie retail (kids really wanted it). I think they should be free like the books. Redbox for new movies cost me $1.06. - Museum passes are limited so you need to sign up early

Pro: - Large, adjacent parking lot…read more Con: - FREEZING. The A/C is on BLAST and I was actively uncomfortable despite being bundled up with my hood on in the middle of summer. Of all the libraries in the area, I like this one the least. They only have a couple of study rooms which are a bit small and the overall vibe is just a little depressing. Resource wise I'm sure it has all the other features and benefits of the Minuteman Library Network (which is great) so I'm just rating as a place to study.
