I never thought I would trust a "chain" waxing service, but I have not had one iota of a bad experience. Definitely sign up for Club Orange if you are receiving consistent waxes. They always make me feel comfortable. I'd suggest trying to do a service with each cerologist to see which person you prefer, waxing is an art so everyone approaches it differently. She is quiet, we didn't speak throughout the appointment which was a little awkward but she did a very good job and my Brazilian was not painful which is most important! So disappointed, I've been coming here for over 10 years and the sterility and safety of the experience is gone. They no longer change the disposable sheets between clients. At the Tech Center location they now use a rubber mat that they clean between clients. I guess you just cross your fingers and hope for the best. This review is for Sequoia. I've gotten my fair share of Brazilian waxes at different places with different people and even another person at this waxing the city location and Sequoia is by far the best. She takes her time for each wax and does a very thorough job. Now the key with a "good" wax is how long it lasts for. I've had waxes that look good right after, but a few days later, lots of hair starts coming back. This is not the case with any wax I've gotten with Sequoia. Every wax I have gotten with her lasts at least a few weeks and she gets all the hair out by the root. She is also very friendly and kind and does her best to make the waxing experience and easy and painless as possible. Overall, I highly recommend Sequoia for any wax. Of all the waxing specialists I have tried, she is THE BEST. read more

I am very disappointed, I picked this place for 1 single reason... tipped is not allowed!!! Well that's a lie. Not only did I not get a first time customer discount, but I was asked what I wanted to pay in gratuity at check out. I've been a Waxing the City regular for almost two years now. Without going into too much detail, there's a reason why I give them five stars, even if the visits can be painful. Rachel at the front desk is the most cheerful, efficient person I've encountered at any spa, beauty salon or place of business in this realm. Whether you're calling last minute, checking in or booking an appt in advance, she's got you, Boo. Yes, waxing hurts. Whomever says it's painless probably also says tattoos tickle or thong underwear is comfortable. That being said, WTC trains all of their aestheticians extensively in the art of hair removal. Yes, it's an art. Anyone that can get my armpits smooth and hair-free in six strips or less is better than Van Gough. I am a Black Book customer, which is a pre-purchased package program. It includes a set number of services at a small discount plus 20% off additional products purchased. Even though I live across town from the Lodo location, I will make my regular 3-4 week trips to the OG Waxing the City because I like them that much. I've visited Waxing the City's Lodo studio twice now while in Denver from out of state. Both experiences were great but my second visit I scheduled an appointment with Laurie intentionally based on reviews I read online and I'm so glad I did! Laurie did an amazing job on my brows taking just the right amount away and shaping them while allowing room to grow where needed. I also left with my first brow tint and I'm so glad she encouraged me to try it because it helped my (blonde) brows fill in even more just as she described. Brittany was at the front desk and I came out of my appointment to find that she and my mom who accompanied me to the appointment had been chatting the entire time. She and Laurie were both so kind and personable. I am excited to be back in Denver and to see Laurie again. read more

I got to my appointment 6 minutes late due to no street parking and their entrance being moved - which was not easy to find, and they told me I had to reschedule and couldn't see me anymore today. I get that they are busy but this is unacceptable, I was only coming in for an eyebrow and lip wax which should take 10 min max, and further to not be accommodated when I paid for street parking and was 6 minutes late due to their location being inaccessible was pretty frustrating. read more

I am a giant baby when it comes to waxing. I try not to be, but with the first pull of wax from my brow my eyes well up with tears and I can't stop them from coming until about 5 minutes after the whole experience is done. And forget tweezers. I think because of a traumatic childhood event involving a toothpick, the arch of my foot and a doctor with the biggest pair of tweezers I've ever seen I am extremely reluctant to let anyone come near me with tweezers in hand. I'm sure you can imagine this makes me a waxing client that everyone is dying to have. Since Wax in the City has received such awesome accolades I decided to give them a try. As I waited in the room they offered me a drink - water or miniature sodas in a can (8 ounces I believe). We all know I'm a sucker for minis so I was already feeling happier and less nervous. Then Skye came out to take me to a back room. They have a ton of individual rooms here which is awesome. But, not as awesome as Skye. She couldn't stop me from crying, stupid tear ducts, but she did stop me from feeling any sort of pain that I've associated with wax and she gave me tissues to clean up my tears. Plus, she used the tweezers and I hardly felt a thing. As an added bonus she didn't even get upset when I jumped the first time I felt the tweezers on my brow. I think the prices are really reasonable and tipping is already included which is awesome. I will definitely go back and visit Skye next month when it's time to wax again. Saturday turned out to be "splurge on Stephen" day, and I decided to get a few areas waxed. (Not "there". Nice try. I'll never tell. :) My go-to peeps at Studio Urban Wax were not available for days -- not even for a single service -- so I decided to flip to their next major competitor on Yelp, WTC. I was pleasantly surprised to find the "mention Yelp and get 50% off your most expensive service" tag when I looked at reviews. So down to Market St I fled. I was greeted pleasantly when I entered their cute front waiting room, lots of windows on the front wall and a drink fridge that carried those baby cans of soda. The receptionist was pleased when I mentioned Yelp...I think it's a mutual "hey, we both know what we're getting out of this" relationship -- I'm getting cheaper services, you're getting a review. :) My waxer was Michelle who got to me very quickly after I arrived. She performed her art very well using a blue wax for some areas and a gooey wax the consistency and look of honey on other areas. So far so good, right? Mostly. Except I looked a few times, and there were some hairs she missed. Glaring ones, to me. To her credit, she had me check her work on the areas I could see, but still, I shouldn't have had to point them out. And on a somewhat large area, I was left with hairs a few millimeters high; much better than I started with, but not beyond notice when I ran my hand over the skin. Michelle said it was because my hairs seemed to be growing at different rates. That may be, but shouldn't it all have been smooth when you were done, ripped down to the skin? I think it should have. (now the dreaded words...) I didn't have that problem at Studio Urban Wax when they did that. So in 4-6 weeks, I'll be hitting SUW again, and seeing if I experience that issue I experienced here. If I don't and my skin is as smooth as a babys, then WTC will forever be my "backup" place; certainly competent, but we're paying for results here, right? To be fair, I'm right. So we'll see what happens. If I see WTC's issue at SUW, then I will glower at my tummy (there you go, now you know, worth the wait? bleah. :p ) and curse at my weird-rate growing hairs. They now prompt for a tip, making the price way above what it should be. At 20%, a Brazilian is now $72. They do say tipping is optional, but when you are specifically prompted to enter one or select decline, you feel obligated to tip as you would in any salon. Their pricing structure is high to start because tips were included. If they want to allow tipping, that's fine. But then either reduce the base cost or CLEARLY STATE at time of payment that the fee includes tip and additional tipping is an option but not expected. Instead, I was told to feel free to add a tip if you'd like, it's a new option we added a year ago. That makes it seem like tipping is expected. read more

Had such an awesome experience here! Got 20% off for the first time and I got my Brazilian done with McKenzie and she was amazing. She was so sweet and talked to me the whole time. With quarantine, I hadn't waxed for a while and shaved a time or two and I can guarantee that it was as good an experience it could've been for the situation and it's because of McKenzie. I was so excited to try this place: great reviews, half off your first visit, couldn't be better right? Answer: Wrong I showed up at 4:47 for my 4:45 appointment. Yes, I was late. And I hate being late. I felt bad about being late. And I walked in and apologized for being late. Things come up for people sometimes. And oh, did they make sure I knew I was late....when I walked in and checked in, the receptionist, while friendly, goes "Well you're running about 5 minutes late so can you fill out this form real quick?" Ok, didn't think it was 5 since I just looked at my watch, but I'm not here to debate. I sat down with the form and my cerologist came out and called for me. I had just started completing the form and she goes "Ok well can you hurry cuz you're late...". I know I'm late....I hurried through the form and signed with barely a chance to read it. For all I know I was signing over my first-borne child or my life's savings.... As we walked back to the room, I apologized again. She goes, "It's ok but when you're late it throws everyone else off too and we barely have time to do a wax." Ok...first off I know how these things work, I apologized. Second, is this to say I'm going to get a worse wax done because I was late? Like I don't want my eyebrows to look bad and I'd rather just come back if that's the case. Third, THINGS COME UP. You're right, Waxing The City, next time I have a phone interview that runs late (which was my case), I'll politely interrupt them and go, "Sorry, I know you have additional questions for me, but I have an eyebrow appointment to get to and really can't talk about my leadership skills any further." I'm sure they would understand... The room is clean and nice, but very sparse. One review compared it to more of a lab and I definitely got that feeling. My cerologist was barely talkative and the conversation that did occur seemed very forced. Like just don't talk to me if it's that difficult for you... While she did do an overall great job and the waxing was relatively painless, she made my eyebrows thinner than I would have liked....I like thicker brows, and she goes, "so just a touch up?" Yes. Exactly. Nope. They are definitely thinner than what I'm used to. Also, my skin the next day was red and had broken out. Granted, this has happened to me before at other locations and I do have sensitive skin. But maybe I could have anticipated this if I had time to read the waiver.... Unless your hobbies include being scolded like a 5 year old and showing up to appointments 30 minutes early, I highly recommend you seek your waxing services elsewhere. Oh. Did I forget to mention? Just to be clear: this is not for actual services. I made a last-minute appointment & live 5 min away from this location. I had read other reviews where people said the parking was hard so I said - "I read reviews that the parking is difficult, will that be a problem?" and she said no that isn't an issue anymore. Turns out, still an issue, so struggle to park. I finally pay for parking then they asked for all this paperwork that could have been done prior or knowing the time sensitivity, suggested incomplete it after. Then they said "we don't know if we have time because you're late. We will do the best we can." What does do the best we can for a wax mean? Like partially until you run out of time? I've had laser so it's minimal but more of the principle of like "the best we can..." had I been given any of this information over the phone, I would have gone somewhere else (which I did, and had a great service) in the first place. Moral of the story: communicate clearly with potential customers. read more

Very professional and helpful for all your waxing needs. They now have 3 salons (as of this post): Downtown, DTC and Boulder. The owners share their time amongst all 3 salons so if you need services from them, you could work it out. The best thing about this place is that you could make appointments with whomever you want right on their web site. Pretty easy to do, once you create a log in. And, despite how much you want to tip they won't allow it. They include it in the bill. read more

Okay, I love this place! I was going to the one in Boulder but when I realized my fave cerologist was based in Denver, I made the switch. I heart Whitney. She is just perfect. She chats me up and I don't even realize she is ripping my hair out with hot wax. Not kidding, folks! The wax they use on the "sensitive" areas is by far the best I have ever had used on me. I have been waxing for about 14 years (my mom took me to get my legs waxed when I was 14, it was a bonding thing) and this salon has given me the best experiences by far. I was traumatized by a place in Florida, where I went to college. After the horror that was that bikini wax, I went back to shaving (not happily but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do). I was timid the first time I came in to WitC. But Whitney's easy conversation and fast waxing skills plus the great technique and awesome wax made it pain-free and less than 20 minutes!!! Now, I'm hooked and the boys aren't complaining. :-) I really recommend, if you are interested, going in andchatting with them. They will explain it all to you and if you get started and can't take it, they will stop and not push you (which happens in some places). Lastly, I noticed the comment about their online scheduling system. I agree, it isn't the best. I had no problem for several months and lately it has been on the fritz for me... So I just called. They found me an appointment time with my favorite girl, no problem. Perhaps it doesn't all work flawlessly but, frankly, what does? And at least there is a solution that does work (maybe it's "old-fashioned" to call but get over it)! All I'm saying is, try it! Come on... don't be fraidy cat! I have been a Brows on 15th devotee literally since I moved to Denver, and I have been almost exactly once a month for literally years. But then I started a job with way less flexible hours, and in a spot that's about ten times closer to Waxing the City than to Brows. So with a heavy heart and a guilty conscience, I booked an appointment at Waxing the City. My face was getting furrier every day, and even though I felt like a cheating cad, I just had to admit that if the service and product turned but to be just as good, I couldn't justify the extra trip across town. Overall verdict? I will stick with Brows and just try to be better about making an appointment. Waxing the City will be my pinch hitter. I didn't like the brisk reception when I came in, the lack of pleases and thank yous. Maybe it was an off day, and if it's better the next time I go I will definitely update my review. I really like that waxing is done in individual rooms here. Not that I'm ashamed of getting my eyebrows waxed, but it's not really something I want everyone to see. I didn't like that my skin was slightly irritated for about a day after waxing. I have extremely sensitive skin, this is not uncommon for me. I'm sure they use good quality wax and everything, but for my particular skin, it may not be the best. I like the no tipping policy. I always tip well, regardless of how happy I am with the service. I want people to like me. :) It was nice not to have to figure out how much I should be giving. I expect a business with multiple locations to accept American Express. Now...the actual experience of the wax itself is not pleasant, however..Abigail was very gentle with me and put me at ease. She explained exactly what she was doing and had me outta there within 15 minutes. Even though parking can kind of be a bitch, if you come on a weekday after work chances are you might score a spot out front like I did. The place is downstairs next to Pat's Cheesesteaks where you can down a couple of drinks if you're REALLY nervous beforehand. They even have a small fridge with mini sodas in the waiting area! The best part? The no tipping policy! The prices are already pretty fair and all they ask is if you spread the good word, so this is what I'm doing. I used to love this place. Before they got all big and had two (or is it three now?) locations, it was by far the best place for ritual hair removal in the city. Then they went to that online booking and I've had nothing but problems. I book for a day. I go in on that day. They don't have me down for an appointment (usually they dig me up on some random day three weeks away) and they're too busy to get me in. When I'm on my way to the beach, finding my last-minute waxing appointment doesn't exist and I have to scramble for something else just plain sucks. I've carried in my email confirmations of my appointments. I've faxed them to the salon. And several people I sent to them back in tha day tell me they've had the same problems. It seems they just don't care that the system doesn't work. I gave them many chances -- way more than I would if they hadn't been so good for so long -- but I can't go through the frustration and inconvenience anymore. read more

Obviously I am not writing about the experience of getting hair yanked out of my body in various sensitive areas...so you know that the five stars reflects the service, the staff and the end result. As another Yelper said, there are a few good reasons to try WTC: 1) No tipping policy- what, my friends, is better than that? They pay their workers fairly, they expect their good customers to share with others and utilize good 'ole word of mouth, and not tipping on a $50 service saves some cash. 2) Their staff is courteous, talented and friendly. At WTC there are different levels of technicians. You can have a level I technician for a certain price, a level II for a bit more, etc. Because I am living the dream on a nonprofit budget, I always go with the level I technician, and I have never, ever had a bad wax job. I do not have to go to the same technician every time and switch it up a lot, and I always walk out with exactly what I was after, a hairless area, no matter what level the technician. I have had waxings done at various places around town, but once I heard about WTC a few years ago, I have never strayed, and I won't, unless I start getting it for free from a professional...not likely to happen.
