Having been five years…read moresince I had my nethermost ladybits waxed, I decided to stop shaving and go full-monty before California. A friend owned a salon near Chicago previously, so this would be my first experience with an unfamiliar wax artisan, yet having seen great reviews for Melanie, was confident. The waiting area was clean, comfortable, and inviting. Immediately greeted and quickly checked in - wonderful for a first-time guest - even more excited to find out in-state residents receive half-price their first full bikini (their term for Brazilian). Feels like Christmas, let the games begin! By 4:15, the time of my appointment, I was notified Melanie was running a couple of minutes behind - loved the prompt notification - and by 4:17 Melanie was out greeting me. We walked back to the suite, I undressed while she prepped, and it was onto the table for business. Melanie was friendly, sweet, all smiles, conversational, informational, gentle, and darn good! Today, I needed a quick eyebrow touch-up before starting my new job this week, and Jasmine wasn't available until next week. Normally, that wouldn't be a big deal. I just wanted a simple cleanup to remove stray hairs and feel put together. Unfortunately, I left feeling worse than when I walked in. Eyebrows make such a big difference in your overall appearance, and the best way I can describe it is that my brows were not shaped properly. The tail of my right brow looks almost completely gone, and there are still stray hairs that weren't cleaned up to define the shape. I'm honestly really disappointed. I still tipped, but ended up sitting in my car afterward crying out of frustration. I understand mistakes can happen, or certain specialists do things differently. So this is no shade to the specialist I saw, but the experience itself was disappointing. It just felt like a waste of money and time. The hairs I wanted cleaned up were still all there afterwards. And a whole part of my eyebrow is now missing. There wasn't any brushing or mapping done beforehand, and I was told I couldn't achieve the shape I wanted due to a lack of hair and that I would need a brow serum. I was also told my brows are too blonde to get the look I was going for... something I've never had an issue with before. At the end of the day, this means I now have to wait for my brows to regrow to fix the shape all over again, which is frustrating. Especially right before starting a new job. I'll be going back to Jasmine to get them back to how they were before, as she has always been able to achieve the look I want without issue. Hopefully, I can get them back on track soon.

A pedicure and an acrylic full set. Pedicure went amazing. But when it came to my full set, I have never seen acrylic be laid the way the tech did it. She started at the bottom of the nail and pulled it towards my cuticle area. I had acrylic laying all the way on the side of the my nails, onto my skin. And I had acrylic build up under my nails that she hadn't cut off. It was globs of acrylic that covered the points of my fingers. After asking the tech to fix it twice, she got frustrated and had the male at the front desk come over. He told her she needed to narrow the nails. Still, it wasn't fixed but I stayed polite and continued to tell her it wasn't right. She got frustrated and told me, "you don't like it, I'll take it off and you'll go with someone else", she continued to repeat that 3 times even after I said okay I understand. She removed the nails and I had acrylic all over my sweater and hands. At this point, I had multiple cuts on my fingers and my nails hurt. The second tech tried to fix it, and they were okay. But all the nails were different lengths (the thumb nails were way longer than the other fingers), some don't fit the whole width of my nails and not once was I asked to wash my hands to remove the access acrylic. I wish I would have taken pictures of the dried acrylic on my hands but by the end of the appointment, I was in tears from frustration and I had been there for almost 3 hours. I wanted to love this place but unfortunately I will not be returning.
