Our first trip was to the Amalfi coast, never could I imagine a more wonderful experience. Every minute from arriving in Rome, to arriving in Positano for 8 nights, and returning to Rome was amazing. Our journey director was outstanding. Our fellow travelers were fabulous, a group of 12. We would explore the coast from this beautiful spot in Positano, each day setting out for adventure in a lovely Mercedes van. We were mostly in places where we saw few Americans, we ate at wonderful restaurants, and had an absolute blast. We had a wonderful blend of active and down time, we learned and saw so much, and laughed every day ! Amazing! The next trip was Florence, Cinque Terra, and Tuscany, amazing as well. The hotels and villa we stayed in were top notch, our journey director amazing, another perfect trip. This was a more active trip, but we enjoyed every second, we felt like we saw a very real side of Italy, not just tourist spots. The Time we spent on each spot was magical. The charming town of Lucca and the Villa in Tuscany were top of our list. We are not organized tour people, but the small group, perfectly curated Nada's trips are beyond. This park is located about 20 miles off the I-77 interstate. There is plenty of signage to guide you. The park is $3 per adult and $1 per child with a pay station. Park opens at 9am. Plenty of parking! We walked around the statues, the meeting house, and the schoolhouse. Kids enjoyed ringing the bell. There are picnic tables and a covered shelter with additional tables. There is a restroom that is depicted as a log cabin. So is the picnic shelter. Very Rustic looking. The kids enjoyed looking at everything, reading the markers and taking their own photos. Then it is just a short walk to the museum and a few monuments. I'm not sure if there is really any connection to Jackson himself aside from the name and monuments. But there are some artifacts which date from around his time. The history here, indeed the whole area, is a history lacking from the west coast. So, whether related to the 7th president or just his era, it is cool for a life long west coaster to visit and learn. Other highlights of this state park which I did not have an opportunity to check out are camp sites, a lake with canoe rentals and a 1 mile nature trail. Practically something for everyone.

They recommend you wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty as you will be getting up close and personal with some animals, depending on the tour package - my favorite experience was the capybaras but meeting my namesake the spider monkey was fun! Experience: I took my husband to the safari to do a Capybara encounter for his birthday, but it ended up being so much more. We were able to learn about and pet farm animals, zebras, monkeys, lemurs, camels, kangaroos, fennec foxes, otters, and so many other beautiful rescue animals. They were all well taken care of and in good spirits. The experience was $25 per person and $25 extra per person to sit and have an encounter in the Capybara's environment. They were so sweet and kept jumping on us to snack on veggies. I can't wait to go back, I want to do all the encounters they have! Everyone in Charlotte needs to visit the farm and safari, it is a great experience.

Beatty Park…read moreis a 265 acre park that has a ton of recreational facilities from trail systems to 2 basketball courts (lighted), 6 tennis courts, 5 lighted soccer fields, 4 horseshoe pits, indoor shelters, 2 outdoor picnic shelters, 10 picnic areas, 2 playgrounds, conference center, restrooms, 2 softball fields and fantastic lake with kayaking, fishing and canoeing. They have an awesome singletrack 5+ miles green/blue and black-diamond trail system. It's used by both walkers and mountain bikers, using in opposing directions. The trail system has something for everyone, plenty of awesome jumps and obstacles, some decent technical areas and a few hills, some flowy and flat runs. The kayaking is pretty cool. You literally pull from your car and directly into the nice sized lake. It's not huge, but plenty big enough to enjoy some fishing or hang out on. The soccer fields aren't the best in the area, though they have grass and nice goals --what else is needed, right? The tennis courts and basketball areas are great, well lit and well maintained, as is the remainder of the park for that matter. There are many picnic tables as mentioned and some secluded picnic areas around the parking with several parking lots. They're equipped with great tables, grills, and trash cans, again, always nice and well maintained. Overall a fantastic location kudos to CharMeck for such a great space.

First off, the dog park is amazing. Huge with lots of space, separated areas for small and large dogs, agility play equipment, benches and the like. You must have a city dog license and it seems that access to the park is using an RF tag to open the gate. Nearby, an ADA compliant playground, fitness equipment and a disc golf course. And that's just half the park. On the other side, a regular playground with a splashpag, picnic shelters, a massive baseball/softball complex and walking trails and a mountain bike trail. Despite the river views, it took a half hour or so to get to the spider lillies, which are apparently limited to one particular location. It was hard to see them from shore, made harder by rising waters (the festival the previous day was likely thrown off by rain). I got enough of a glimpse of them to understand where the name comes from. The overall aesthetic of the park offered remnants of a historic canal, and boating and picnicking opportunities. It was a pleasant space, but not at the top of ones I'd want to drive out to and pay for.
