Death Before Decaf !! stopped in here the other day looking for a cup of their freshly brewed Columbian Coffee and all they had ready was decaf. When I asked the guy who "works" here when the real Coffee is gonna be ready he just disappeared into the back where I can only assume the break room is located. LOL!! So my choices were between their seasonal Caramel something or Decaf. Keep in mind it's like 7 in the morning and customers are starting to get pissed off over here and still none of the employees are brewing anything. Anyway long story shortened I had to settle for that Caramel Coffee which totally sucks but lucky for them at least someone up in here had enough common sense and decency to bake a fresh batch of breakfast sandwiches. I'm thinking "Employee of the Month" or even, dare I say "Management Material"  LOL!! Whatever the case is 3 stars for the Sausage Biscuit Sizzli Sandwich. If you're thinking about going to this Wawa location, think again. This is easily one of the worst Wawas I've ever been to--and I've been to quite a few. I get that they've had some past incidents that required police involvement, but that doesn't justify the way this place is run. The store is dirty, the staff seems unbothered, and the security is overly aggressive. I came in just to grab a soda and a sandwich, and left feeling watched and harassed. Not okay. If the store is really concerned about safety, they need to invest in better-trained employees and professional security who know how to interact with customers respectfully. There are other Wawas nearby that are way cleaner, more welcoming, and actually treat you like a human being. I won't be coming back to this location--and I suggest others steer clear, too. read more

The worst Wawa around for sure. The staff is non attentive to many things. 620am and no coffee is ready. There was a line with about 7 of us waiting for coffee. Bottled drinks were not stocked!! And no one is friendly except the security who always says good morning. read more

I have been to several Wawa locations throughout the East Coast, but I have never been so disappointed with the Springfield Ave, Maplewood, WAWA location. Especially the gas attendants, they are neither professional nor trained to deal with customers. Long story short, the attendant shortchanged me twice when filling up the car. I was using cash, when I corrected the attendant twice that the change he gave me was wrong, the person rudely told me to go inside the Wawa store and get my correct change. Meanwhile, he was holding a handful of singles. Dealing with staff inside the store is not different. Needless to say, I never received the correct change back. PLEASE TRAIN your staff better, or continue to receive this type of review, but not from me, because I will not return to this location again. read more

A surprising little oasis that seems to confirm the rumored fandom some folks have for Wawa. There's a decent selection or hot food, prepackaged snacks and cold drinks, as well as coffee that usually seems fresh if not exactly fancy. The employees have been exceptionally pleasant in 90 percent of my interactions with them, usually when stopping by to fuel up my non-electric car. read more

I LOVE Wawa. unfortunately I have to travel to the Milburn springfield area Wawa because the Maplewood one is so horrific. The staff treat everyone rude and with zero dignity. The staff wants to argue and fight with all their customers. Today I tried to buy a coffee and get a cup for ice to make it a ice coffee but the genius working the register refused to give me a ice cup without charging another $1.99 for the cup and ice. they keep all their cups behind the counter because this Wawa is in an area that they feel is so crappy that they can't leave anything including cups out. the security guard that is there (yes they need security) gives everyone dirty looks and sits on his butt doing nothing. this place sucks. straight up avoid If you can. Not much to say, the one star is for the staff that show up and try their best. The place is dirty, there is not enough staff to get everything done. It's unsafe, first wawa I've seen with a 24 hour security guard. Depending on the time of day, there might be no coffee at all and the staff might tell you they are too busy at that moment, yes that has happened to me on more than one occasion. Homeless at both entrances make for an anxiety filled visit, not to mention people that hang out in the parking lot who aren't customers and who knows what that's all about. Updating my review from a few years ago. Depending on the time you go there you get different service. Pros: coffee has been brewed fresh instead of tasting like it's been sitting there for a while, cleanliness of the coffee station has improved, customer service has improved slightly. Cons: customers leave their cars at the pump to run inside to shop while other's are waiting to pump gas. Panhandlers lingering outside of the store making it uncomfortable just to exit/enter the store. Coffee Station can be dirty where you put milk and sugar to conclude your drink. Can be an excessive amount of customers waiting for their orders, instead of fast friendly service. More quick and efficient workers needed to work well under pressure. read more

I waited an hour for a sandwich that they gave to someone else. I had to reorder and wait longer because they wouldn't give me a refund. Then when they remade the sandwich the guy behind the counter acted as if I was the one trying to steal it even though he knew the whole situation. No one said a word of apology. This brand new gorgeous station with brand new pumps and an excellent food store is the best example of a gas station that I've seen in Essex County! The price is the same whether cash or credit. The pumps are brand new, you can either self serve pump your own gas or have the attendant do it for you. It's well-lit and seemingly safe with the amount of staff that they have on premises. The Wawa market is well-stocked with Subway sandwiches snacks soups sides, you name it! There is an array of beverages to choose from both hot and cold and even tobacco products for your cancer needs. The exterior of the building the parking lot and especially the bathrooms are actually well-thought-out clean and attractive. This station is worth making a special trip to just based on the prices that I've experienced the third week of February in 2017. If I could give them -5 stars I would. I've been there a handful of times and I've never gotten the hot food I ever ordered correctly. It's a shame. There's always at least 3-5 workers available at a time. The food is ALWAYS cold and never made properly, whether it be mistakes or presentation. The slices of bread don't even match. Stopped in yesterday11/16/23 a ordered some chicken noodle soup and Italian sandwich toasted every thing was good the store was pretty busy hit the staff was attentive and gracious , my son was wondering the store looking for his Nick backs when a gentleman named KAY approached and offered an amazing deal in coupon form for a free kids meal , that not only saved me a few bucks but put the biggest smile on both our faces what a wonderful act of kindness brother KAY you're a gentleman and scholar and. I went into wawa on Springfield Ave in Maplewood, i got the a Vanilla ice coffee as i started to put i. cup noticed the color was off, so i decided to taste it it was curdled i went to one of the employees and told him, a Shift supervisor Kay, came over very rudley and annoyed stated nothing was wrong and i should have a good night , very loud and dismissive as i was leaving the store after making another purchase I heard him yelling at another employee that the vanilla was not changed..Kay needs training on how to manage customer complaints.. read more

This one gets 2 stars because any Wawa itself by default gets at least 4 stars from me, so this one is 2 stars worse than any other Wawa. It's dirty, surrounded by panhandlers and shady people sitting in the parking lot and in front of the doors. Feels unsafe. Half the pumps are closed. Tire air machines are broken. Seems to have less prepared food than other Wawas. And my cell phone can't connect to the Wawa app when in the store so I can't access my account. With other Wawas opening in the area, I'll just go to other better, cleaner, safer Wawas. read more

I'm used to Wawa being a south/central Jersey thing but im liking them up north now. They seem to be trying to kill out Quick Chek which I also love but Wawa just takes it up with not just sandwiches but now burrito bowls that can contend with even Chipoltle. Tons of the usual convienience store goodies, coffee and full service fuel with many pumps. It's interesting seeing this Wawa here as you're used to seeing these at a highway rest stop there's plenty of parking and it's great stopping here for lunch as even with the lunch rush they have 3 preparers so by the time you pay, your food should just about be ready. Only thing is they've stiffed me on extras like avocado and and sauce which is bad when they charge extra and I've paid but opened my food later to find little or no extras. Don't know what will become of the nearby Quick Chek I've loved for years, but this Wawa is pretty nice. read more

When this Wawa's first opened it was a shinning star. Lately it's been falling off there's always a shortage of things I want. I love Wawa's Hazelnut coffee but, haven't been able to buy a bag in over 2 weeks. Plus late night is horrible. Friday night I went for a late night snack it was crowded not the problem. The worker was sneezing all over everything with no mask and I made a face. The worker who turned out to be the manager said is there a problem that I sneezed? I said the problem is that your sneezing without a mask on. She got very rude with me acting like she wanted to fight. Oh My God I've never seen a manager or worker that disrespectful in my life. So I received a Wawa gift card as a present. Wawa in Maplewood is the closest location to me so I dropped in to use the gift card. I ordered 3 sandwiches one of which I wanted it to be tuna but try as I might, I could not get a tuna sandwich ordered through their self-serve portals (the only method by which you can get any sandwich at Wawa) I tried about 5x because I didn't want to leave the portal and go ask an employee since there was a very long line in back of me and I would lose my place. I was able to flag my daughter down and get her to ask an employee in the sandwich area why I wasn't able to place an order for a tuna sandwich through the portal. The employee told her there was no tuna for today. :-/ How can a deli not offer tuna everyday?????? Anyways, it would have been nice if there were a notification in the system or some type of sign that indicated that....anything so I didn't have to waste my time thinking I was doing something wrong on the portal. I finish ordering the sandwiches. Next I get on the line to pay for them (Just note for anyone whose not used to ordering through the portal you must pay first before they prepare your food). I get to the cashier and as luck would have it, I can't find my gift card :-/ I mean I'm looking all through my purse for the thing. After about a minute of looking the cashier says to me "Take your time. It's not like there's a line or anything" I looked up and in back of me I saw a line of about 15 people. Embarrassed by my accidental disregard of my surroundings, I looked at him in disbelief due to his comment. He then shrugs his shoulder and says "it was just a joke" but I don't know him for him to joke with me like that. I moved to the side to continue looking for my card. A more professional way for him to handle the situation would have been if he would have said "would you mind moving to the side so I can take care of the other customers?" I guess that was just too much to ask. So I find my gift card and get on the line again. I get to the cashier again and try to pay with my gift card but it isn't working. Same employee- very nonchalantly gives me back the card "maybe it needs to be activated first" he says. Turns out he was correct. Who would have thought a gift card to a convenience store would require activation? Anyways I called Wawa Customer Service and it took all of about a good 10 min for me to get the process of activation going. I really couldn't hear the rep on the phone due to the loud background noise in the store and I didn't want to go back to my car because I had my daughter with me, there's usually a beggar or two standing outside the store and it's a very busy area -in terms of the wrong crowd of people. Even after reading the phone rep the info on the card, the phone rep said it would be about 5-10 minutes before it would officially be activated. I didn't have time to wait and was extremely frustrated at that point so I paid with my debit card and left. Will I be back? Probably but I'm not happy about it. This Wawa is 10 min from my house and while I do need to drive to the outskirts of "the hood" to get to it, the next location is approximately 30 min away, so yes I'll begrudgingly be back. *Sigh* Oh well. read more

Fast and convenient store to get a quick bite. My orders are always correct here, but nothing outrageously good. Getting gas here seems like a hassle because they are always busy and theres a sign about exact change cash or something weird like that. I am outraged by their charge of 5 cents for a paper bag and no more plastic bags, but its the townships new law, not Wawa's so beware if you are buying a lot to bring your own bag. read more

At first I was resistant to Wawa infiltrating Northern NJ. But now I am grateful. Their food is so fresh, delicious and priced right. They have a self order screen which is perfect. They have fresh baked goods and salads too. My favorite is their fruit smoothies with real fruit. Delicious. This Wawa is in Maplewood, which is right next to the town that I work in. I visited this location 2/5/18 entered the store around 9:20pm your cashier (older white male who's balding) as the most off putting disposition it borderlines NASTY! I understand we habe bad days but if the customers ate not his issue and the reason for this attitude then why is he being this way with the public when he is aware he works with the public??? This is a great location to get food but getting gas is a nuisance. People constantly leave their cars parked at the pumps to shop inside. This is not acceptable -especially during peak hours. Just now there were at least 3 cars parked at pumps. Everyone else waiting to get gas had to maneuver around. Wawa shouldn't allow people to do this. If a person leave their car at a pump, whether or not getting gas, should get fined or stopped the pump until they return. If anything, something needs to be done. read more

I am new to the area and saw a familiar place. Wawa. The place is incredibly clean and the staff is fantastic. They're always so kind when you have a question about a menu item or the price of anything. The gas attendants are always very kind and greet you as opposed to just saying "how much?" Their prepared food, at least from my experience, is always made correctly and in a timely manor. Their ingredients are always fresh and tasty. The people preparing the food are always fast working yet don't seem to make a mistake. I've been to many wawa's before but this was definitely a positive experience. read more
