There are repeated concerns about René using his authority to intimidate employees--threatening to fire them, reduce their hours, actually cutting their scheduled hours, or sending them home during shifts despite there being no performance issue. Even more concerning is that he openly communicates that these are consequences when things are not done the way he wants them done. This creates an environment where employees, many of whom are young, are afraid to speak up because they fear retaliation through their schedules, hours, or continued employment. There are also concerns regarding René and Lorena shortening 30-minute meal breaks to 15 minutes because the restaurant is busy, including situations involving younger employees. Management is creating unnecessary exposure to potential NJ Department of Labor complaints that could be avoided by addressing these practices internally. Employees should not have to fear losing hours or being sent home simply for questioning how they are being treated or raising workplace concerns. Ownership should speak privately and confidentially with employees, without store management present, and take these concerns seriously.
