My son had a wonderful time at surf camp last year. He is asking to go back again this year. We can't wait for summer to start!

Marcello was a great instructor! Animated, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable about surfing…read more He had lots of stories and experiences to share-- I think hearing all the negatives helped normalize the challenges so when/if things happened we weren't panicked but could be more relaxed. He was very patient and prepared us well with what to expect and educated us on the foundations of surfing. Marcello and his son were really good about teaching the basics and helping in the water to get acclimated and coaching us on timing. We thankfully had perfect weather for learning-- this was the first time ever surfing for all of us but everyone in the group managed to be able to get up on the board to catch some waves! Would definitely recommend!

We cannot say enough good things about Marcel and Victor. Attentive communication leading up to our…read morelesson, including recommendations for where to park, confirmation the evening before of good weather conditions, and even let us know when he would be in the water with another class and unavailable to answer his phone. Our boys are 6 and 9 and Marcel and Victor were both GREAT with both kids and adults (the kids are the faster learners!) Marcel gave great explanations and then took us out (one at a time at first) on the waves and provided all the instruction we needed... all 4 of us had multiple successful rides before our lesson was through! We would definitely book with them again and highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique vacation experience!

Viking Surf Camp - Getting the run down

Had a great experience with Viking Surf Camp. My wife and I signed up for a lesson during Xmas week…read morewhen things are pretty busy. These guys checked the weather and surf conditions and gave us a time/place meet up spot to ensure maximum fun. Our instructor Chris was excellent. We each got a board as part of the lesson that fit our size. They tolerated our lateness and even gave us some extra time and were very understanding. The lesson started on land with some basic stretching, positioning, and understanding of stance and spring to standing. After that, we got right to it and Chris was amazing at helping us fight through the break and getting our boards to the right place and orientation. He gave us a 1-2-3 count each time to help us get the feel with surfing. As a beginner, I was able to successfully stand up and ride many waves throughout the lesson. It was immensely fun and Chris was a huge part of it. He was super positive and always encouraging even when we fell off immoderately or miss timed the waves. By the end of the lesson I felt pretty comfortable doing it on my own. These guys were one of the more affordable that we looked at when comparing a few different places including some in Miami where I think the surf is often worse. It was also a great work out too. I can't wait to get back on a board and surf again.

I bought a lesson on Groupon. I have called more than 5 times and left 3 messages over 5 days now…read more I never heard back. I took to long trying to get ahold of someone to get a full Groupon refund. I've seen their vans around Fort Lauderdale, so they must be in business still. They might be good once you get a hold of them, but don't prepay.

This review is long overdue but in the winter I headed down to Florida to take surfing lessons with…read moreKali. I signed up for several days of private lessons. It was super easy to set up our schedule; I told him when I would be in town, he told me when he'd be available, and suggested the best time to meet for good surf conditions. We met, walked to the beach with the boards, and got started. When you are spending many hours alone in the ocean with a complete stranger, it helps for him to be sweet, friendly, and incredibly easy to get along with. Luckily, Kali is all of these things. As far as the lessons, he taught me new skills, gave insightful and clear instruction when I needed to change something and was completely encouraging. On the second day of lessons the ocean was far rougher than I had ever surfed in; it made it a good bit more difficult to surf successfully but Kali was ever supportive, telling me what to adjust for the new conditions. The experience was helpful in showing me I don't have to be afraid of new surfing challenges! On my final day a bad storm was coming; we met at the beach to assess the situation and Kali decided that for safety it made the most sense for us to cancel the lesson. He immediately refunded my money, gave me some final thoughts of what to practice (in and out of the water) and told me to email him any time I had questions when I returned home. In short Kali is a fabulous instructor, a lovely person, and if you are in the area I would strongly recommend him!

Today was our first day of surf camp. I'm just going to be very frank. This business has some…read morestrong points but also some serious problems and I hope they're soon addressed. Pros: ~ the instructors show a clear passion for surfing and it's contagious ~ the staff quite obviously loves being around children ~ my daughter learned a lot today; more than I expected Cons: ~ no sense of (or system in place for detecting) dangerous weather conditions. While my phone was alerting me of multiple lightning strikes within a 5 mile radius, these guys had no clue! I'm ok with them just being watchful for lightning beyond 10 miles. But 4.1 miles - come on Aloha. Nature doesn't work for you. ~ seriously unprofessional attire. Seriously, do a bunch of young children need to see your bare jiggly asses? One staff member was wearing a distasteful thong on the beach. Use some basic common sense and show a morsel or respect in a children's camp setting. Can't believe i even have to say this. ~ inconsistent supervision. One child floated way out on a board before he was noticed, some kids were burying an instructor, some were wandering around, some were playing in the water, and others were on boards. There was no real system for knowing who's where/with whom and if a child walked away or were taken, I suspect a long time would pass before it would be noticed. No wrist bands, no head counts, no accountability. This is a low-security camp. Not sure it's a good idea in 2019. ~ low instructor to camper ration = bullies can run rampant. There's always that one kid. And he's there now. Much bigger than the rest, singing inappropriate songs, dumping sand on kids' heads, dragging kids into the water that clearly don't want to be dragged, saying vile things. But he's mostly ignored and he just does whatever TF he wants. Maybe if you had more instructors for such large groups, you'd have a better handle on them. If these issues are addressed, i will be delighted to change my review. For now, it stands unfiltered.
