Thursday we were told a new one would be in by the following Monday and we could swap it out. Monday when we called to see if it was in we were told the new owners were not honoring old warranties. No call to notify us while she waited in her hot house for 5 days. Michael the manager and Vicky the purchaser pointed fingers at who dropped the ball and there was nothing the owners would do to help us. Horrible customer service. My father while alive spent all his time shopping at this store and this is how they treat long term customers. You lost our business and anyone else that will listen to how you treated our family. No longer a customer after over 25 years of shopping there through good and bad management. Do not…read morerent equipment from them, they will charge you for service and repairs due to previous rentals and claim you abused the equipment. I rented a Toro Dingo recently, used it three hours to grade dirt then moved four rocks, all under 300 lbs., well under the max lifting capacity of the Dingo and it started leaking hydraulic fluid all over my driveway and yard. I was told I may be responsible for the repairs, when they picked it up and that they would let me know. They let me know only by charging my credit card an additional $450. When I questioned them about it, one of the teenagers working there showed me a large piece of plastic that had been jammed into the undercarriage by a previous rental. It looked to be a piece of above ground swimming pool that was probably crushed into a dumpster with the machine. I work in commercial construction and use this type of equipment all of the time, there is no way anything I did would have caused this failure. The particular model of Dingo they rent is known on equipment forums for leaking, something I found out after the rental. My wife and I will no longer shop there in the future. We probably made purchases on average once or twice a week the last 25 years. No more. We will drive to KC, Liberty, Gladstone or St. Joe from now on, no matter what and support competing businesses. The $450 I was charged for repairs is going to buy a lot of great marketing. My wife is a local business owner since 2000 and I work around Smithville and the entire KC metro area. We will be sharing our experience with anyone local and beyond. Over the last six or seven years, we have made a point to shop there since the local alderman approved a TIF, granting a significant tax advantage to another competitive hardware store. Prior to the passage of the TIF, we opposed its approval because all local businesses should be subject to the same rules and the aldermen want to play favorites. If you need to rent equipment, go through United, Sunbelt or Home Depot, better service and they won't make you pay for previous abuse or damage.

And of course, if you need tools in Kansas City, this is DEFINITELY your place! They also had plenty of retro & borderline antique tools, so if you have any older compatibility issues with any of your own gear, definitely strike up a conversation here. Stihl staff is not educated enough on products or warranties. Bought a brand new chainsaw was told…read moreit was two year warranty, they sold me additional oil to extend the warranty to four years. I use the chainsaw for 15 minutes and it threw a chain. Two links in the chain were not flexible when I tried to replace the chain back on the chainsaw, took it back to the store told me I had to buy a new chain, and that everything on the saw was covered for the warranty except the chain. Buying an expensive product get told one story as soon as something needs to be replaced they tell you a different story. The department provided terrible service. I then went to the store manager, who sold me the chain at a very slight discount. Even though the staff was not forthright with me around the #Warranty when I bought the saw. After leaving the store, I called the manufacturer who told me if I was still at the store they could talk to the store and get me the replacement chain for free. Not a satisfied customer I will not be buying additional products from your store.

The booths flow very nicely throughout all three floors. There are a few booths which are 'pinterest gone crazy', but for the most part, their things are fairly 'classic' looks, even if they are pinterest inspired. Customer service isn't too bad; some will ignore you, others will actively offer to help you without being pushy. There was ONE booth on FF that the vendor was more concerned about her clique and social activity than the customers who were trying to look at the items, so I ended up skipping it. Sadly, it's a booth for a store that I just love at their retail site. This will always be on my list to stop in.

Visited the new location on The Plaza, zero customer service. Not once during our time in the store…read moredid someone say hello or welcome us. There were about six ladies working. One sat on a computer talking to the group of girls standing at a table talking. No one was walking around the store offering assistance to customers. (There were about 15-20 in the store.) When my mom tried to engage the group of ladies talking they had nothing to do with it. Their response was "Ha.." and then went back to their conversation. A customer was ready to checkout and the group of girls continued on with their conversation and one of them widened their eyes and pointed to the cash register with her head. Two of the girls walked away and the one left behind went to checkout the customer. I had something in my hand to buy and put it away. Terrible customer service.

The communication has been clear and they have gone above and beyond my expectations. We just had snow last night and after they brought in my counter tops, Markus immediately wiped up my floors while Blake started the installation. I had a zillion questions and they both were knowledgable and polite and answered everything plus more. I am confident I made the right decision to have Hallmark do my countertops.
