I have not been to Watch Hill for many years, but my daughter who is a "Swiftie" discovered Ocean…read moreHouse which is within view of Taylor Swift's seaside home/mansion. She made a lunch reservation for five in the Bistro. We walked through the stately lobby and bar area to get to the Bistro. We we seated at a round window table with a great view of the private beach for hotel guests. Of course, there was a pristine white tablecloth and napkins plus fresh Calla Lillies on the table. Flatware was top notch. Glasses were thin walled French. Condiments including tiny bottle of hot sauce were in sealed containers on each table. Salt was in a porcelain bowl. Service was impeccable from start to finish. (Pics of menu included.) Orders: Warm Lobster Roll with Truffle Frites. ($48.) for me. It was very good with chunks of sweet lobster, and the fries were outstanding. I also enjoyed the Carrot Ginger Soup. It was amazing with a pleasing sweet flavor from the carrots and a tangy note from the freshly grated ginger. Texture was perfect. My daughter and I seriously want the RECIPE. Two Burgers ($34. each) very good One steak -- tender ($48.) One half Turkey Club and cup of soup (very good) Side added of Mashed Potatoes -- unusual flavor of mustard and vinegar in a hot mashed? Not eaten. Desserts were creative and presented artistically. ($14.) See photos. *Crème Brûlée *Two Chocolate Coconut Mousse *Trio of Sorbets including excellent Watermelon Mint. Americano Coffee We raved about how delicious the desserts tasted. Lunch was my treat. The prices were high because of the location in a historic hotel. It was the first time we have eaten in an award winning exclusive seaside hotel such as Ocean. Guests at this hotel are notably wealthy. During summer season, room rates are about $1,500. a night. Restrooms: Classy as expected. Cloth towels spa soap and hand lotion plus fresh flowers. Photos. Description and Awards: Perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Ocean House is an iconic New England seaside resort, and the first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star hotel in the state. It is also Forbes Five-Star rated, making Ocean House one of only fourteen Five-Star resorts in the world to hold this honor.

Everything! Was! Perfect! Lovely room, lovely grounds,…read morewonderful hosts!! Soooo close to the beach (short walk) and they have rolling carts, towels and chairs!! And a pass to get onto their own space on the beach! Coffee is ready when you need it! I slept like a baby on a comfortable bed, showered in a beautiful walk-in shower with great water pressure and (at least in our room) there was bottled water and a bottle of wine. C'mon... you can't get better!! Love the area, loved the recommendations for restaurants (believe the hosts, they are steering you in the right direction for food!) and wish I could stay a lot longer!! But I have return trip planning circling in my mind right now!!

Last weekend, I traveled to Misquamicut for my niece's 15th birthday and booked a suite at the Blue…read moreWhale for $420 for the night. We had a friend who unexpectedly got work off and wanted to join us, so we simply asked management if it would be okay for him to stay in the suite we had already paid for and park at the hotel. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple question turned into a very uncomfortable and upsetting situation. Management became extremely confrontational and told us that we were "not a good fit," simply because we asked about having an additional guest and parking spot. We were even threatened with having the police called, despite the fact that we were not arguing or causing any kind of disturbance. We asked for a refund, but instead, the owner decided to "upgrade" our room. Our friend was not allowed to park at the hotel, and we were then charged an additional $40 for him to stay in the room that we had already paid $420 for. The entire situation completely ruined what was supposed to be a special night celebrating my niece's birthday. The way we were treated was extremely disappointing, especially considering we were simply trying to clarify whether an additional guest and parking spot would be allowed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend the Blue Whale to anyone, and I will not be staying here again.

This is the perfect place to stay for a beach trip. It's literally steps from the beach. It has a…read moredecent sized mini fridge and a microwave. What else do you need? The room was small but we were only there to sleep so no complaints there. I am grateful I brought a sleep mask since light pours in through the blinds. It was nice to leave the windows open all day when we were out - the room never got stuffy at all and it was pleasant to have beachy fresh air. We slept with the air conditioner which worked fine. I liked that the parking lot was towards the beach since it was easy to stash my beach chairs coming to and from the beach without lugging them more than a few steps. It was also super nice to just run up to the room to use the bathroom vs the port-o-potties that are available in the parking lot. The hot water in the room gets VERY hot and in our room specifically (208), the dial on the shower that pointed to hot and cold was reversed. So we found that we had to point it to C for scorching hot and H for more tolerable cooler temped water. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely stay here again.

The place itself is nice enough, being on the beach is a nice plus. It's the rest. A wonderful, romantic, homey getaway just a stone's throw from the more populated areas in Westerly…read moreand Watch Hill. Excellent accommodations, food and guest service. The grounds are exquisite. Would absolutely go back! Owner Michael was dead-on with each of his dining recommendations. On our arrival, I was surprised by lovely flowers/very good wine that were selected by Michael at my husband's request. Owner Michael whips up some fabulous breakfasts (don't miss the banana french toast), each one better than the last! Loved the cookies and liquor setup each afternoon. The pool was a bit chilly in early August but very clean. The room was immaculate every staff member was super friendly and engaged. Suggestion: The front window of Tuscany room would benefit from light blocking drapes and the vertical blinds need adjusting so that they open and close smoothly.

It's never easy taking over a B&B, and the family that now runs this place seems very nice, and hospitable. That said, at $450 or more per night, execution is requisite for a high Yelp rating. We stayed here four 4-days and 3-nights in the Rosa room. Each room here is somewhat unique (I think there are only 8 rooms here), therefor experiences may be somewhat idiosyncratic to the specific room. Positives: + Hospitable welcome, alerted us by phone when the rooms was ready + Welcome gift (nice touch) + Large room + Gas fireplace which worked well + Comfortable king bed + Pleasant grounds + Separate entrance for this room + Convenient location + Excellent homemade breakfast with seating times to prevent crowding Negatives: - Road noise (on a very busy road, traffic including trucks 100 feet away) - Musty smelling, we couldn't keep windows open at night due to road noise - No sugar, etc. in room for coffee - Bathroom outlets not working - Bathroom door difficult to close - Blinds were broken on one side, and just left standing in the corner of the room, these should have been removed if they could not be repaired - Large piece of plastic left on the window sill, looked dirty there, not well cleaned - Uncomfortable sleep sofa couch for sitting and small TV - Microwave not working (actually it was after we figured out nobody plugged it in) - Outside light over door is on automatic timers, too bright for the light filtering shade, so the room is lit up at night (we prefer a dark room for sleeping) - Rosa backs up to the kitchen, and we could hear a lot of banging and noise at 10pm as they were doing prep work for the next morning The negatives balance out the positives for a 3-star stay. Bottom line, we'd be unlikely to return, especially to that room.
