Very nice place close to all that Mystic has to offer. Room was generally clean (we found some popcorn under the bed, but everything else seemed well maintained). and staff was responsive and extremely nice. One / Two star less as the hotel is next to Amtrak, so you could be awaken at all hours of the night by sounds of the trains - this should be disclosed to customers. The lack of a mini fridge can be issue, since you will have to use ice bags in the tub to preserve leftovers. Walls in room are quite thin - so you can hear your neighbors as well as things going on in graveled parking lot. Locks in the rooms were cheap /flimsy, so be glad that Mystic is a safe place. Overall a decent place to bunker down. Just bring ear plugs. read more

Couldn't quite give this hotel four stars, but it's a very solid three. Starting with the good stuff: every person working on the property was incredibly friendly and kind. On check-in, we met Paul, who gave us plenty of good tips for what to do and see and where to eat in the area. He didn't steer us wrong. The hotel is located a convenient distance from most of the major attractions in Mystic and the surrounding areas. They even have bicycles you can borrow to ride into town. They also have a tremendous indoor swimming pool, a real lap-size pool, which you typically don't find in a hotel. Breakfast is served to your door. This isn't room service; it's the included continental breakfast, which you call or text for starting at 8 AM. Breakfast delivery was fast, and they will also bring refills if you call or text again and ask. It was very convenient not to have to get all dressed early in the morning and traipse across to another building just to eat. The room was clean, and thankfully there was absolutely no evidence at all of bedbugs. Now for the stuff we weren't so happy with. First of all, the room was noisy. Really noisy. We were located on the second floor, and we could hear noise coming in from the driveway and parking lot all night long. Our room also faced the train, which we could see from our window and which ran all night long. We could also easily hear our neighbors speaking in their room. In short, the rooms need a serious upgrade in soundproofing. Our stay was at the beginning of October, and nights were chilly. There was a fireplace in our room, but it wasn't working. When we asked about getting it turned on, the desk clerk said that all the fireplaces were in the process of being turned on for the colder months, and she would send someone over to turn ours on. Well, no one ever came, and our fireplace never worked during our four night stay. It was very disappointing because it would have been a nice way to take the chill off the air and to provide some romantic ambience. The room also could have really used a mini fridge, even a tiny one, just to hold leftovers from meals out. We had to use insulated grocery shopping bags filled with ice to keep drinks and leftovers cold. Don't expect much of anything from the television. It was the size of a small computer monitor, so watching it from across the room in bed really wasn't great. There is also an extremely limited selection of channels. If you want to watch TV, you would do better bringing a device and watching your own streaming services that way. Finally, the rooms are not secure from the outside. At least ours wasn't. We stayed in one of the rooms that was subdivided from a larger house. There was an outside door that led directly to a stairway to the second floor, where there were two doors: one for our room and the other for a separate room. The outside door had no lock at all and no auto-close mechanism. On two of the five days we stayed there, we returned to the room to find the outside door standing wide open. Our room itself only had a simple lock on the door handle. It was the kind of lock that you put on a bedroom door in a private home, not as the sole lock keeping strangers out of your hotel room. If I had been staying there as a woman alone, I definitely would not have felt safe. Despite the drawbacks, we would stay again for the positives. read more

We originally booked an upgraded room but ended up with a basic room. The basic rooms need updating. We went back to the front desk and they moved us to a newer room that had a whirlpool bath tub. The room was large and updated. There are no safes or mini fridges in the rooms. The bed was very comfortable and had nice sheets The inn has a really nice indoor pool. This is a difficult one, as I know the hotel situation in Mystic is in such high demand, that supply-demand dictates that $200/nt, for off-season, is a decent rate. Taber Inn is located on the fringe of the useful parts of town for tourists. Just about walkable to the main strip of shops and restaurants (about 15-20 mins). The rooms themselves are dated - think an old Holiday Inn. Basic, but functional. Quiet, with a comfy (softer side) bed. Shower is hot and works, but the bathroom is tiny. Soundproofing between rooms is somewhat non-existent. At least the heating works well. Service is friendly and warm. Breakfast is a small tray delivered to your room. Bananas, easy peelers, and a sorry looking muffin and slice of cake in a plastic wrap. Hard to get excited by the above, for $200/nt. But other hotels are going for much, much more in Mystic, so this is potentially good value? read more

They put us up in the most fantastic two bedroom unit that was under going some minor work. the next day they move all of our luggage to the unit we had reserved. When I booked this room I had no idea that there were train tracks running behind this property. Amtrak. It's 3:20 am right now and the train horns are blowing. There was continuous noise throughout the night making it hard to sleep soundly. The train goes by and the horns blow waking us up. Wasn't my idea of a relaxing getaway weekend. I had also requested a lower floor and the room was a flight up steep stairs. The room itself was clean however lacked some things needed. Like a table in the bathroom to put your clothes on while showering. Or to store some toiletries. The shower was way too small and inconvenient. The room lacked one nightstand and the one there was way below the height of the bed. The bed was so high they offered a step stool to climb in. There was no coffee offered in the room but we were told if we wanted coffee or danish to call in the morning and they would bring it to us. That's not how I want to wake up. Our trip to Mystic was great but I wouldn't stay here again. We were sadly surprised by all of it. The place was booked full which is likely why no improvements will be made. This is a gem. A small well kept property. Our room was not bells and whistles and didn't need to be. Very clean, with a whirlpool tub and shower. Spacious, with a door onto a very nice covered deck shared with three other units in our unit. The indoor heated pool is sizable. A very convenient location, minutes from Stonington and Mystic. Front desk lady at check-in was a hoot. This place has a very nice family-run feel about it. A word of caution for a person not real experienced with baseboard heat. The room has an unlabeled thermostat on the wall, then there is an a/c unit in the wall under the window. Some places tell you that a thermostat controls the a/c AND heat. Well do not make my mistake, i set the wall thermostat (baseboard heat) and the a/c thermostat. It was in low-70's outside and we closed the window to use the a/c. The room sort of never cooled off, both a/c and heat working in perfect synchroni Only thing we missed was the morning coffee and danish service, which after 8:00 am you can call and get served to your room. We had a great experience at the Taber In. We had a room with a balcony, and a huge jacuzzi tub. The owners were very personable, showed us a map of Mystic, and made recommendations. The room was nice. The only recommendations are: A bigger T.V. The T.V in the room was tiny, the size of a computer monitor, fluffier pillows, and to have a mini fridge to be able to store some food and beverages. Otherwise, we had a great experience. Well, it has an indoor pool that adds value, except not for me. Not a swimmer, and no longer traveling with little kids. What would add value is a mini-fridge. At this price, a mini fridge seemed an obvioius amenity that was missing and would help make up for the fact that the room was dated and spartan. Location is terrific though. Not quite a walk into Mystic, but a quick drive and 10 minutes from Westerly RI. Coffee, fruit and a "pastry" delivered with a smile to your door in the morning. The manager was super friendly and very helpful and patient while I asked my millions of questions. The room booked had a king size bed, electric fireplace and a jacuzzi whirlpool tub. So my friend & I went to Mystic Seaport from a Sat. to Sun. towards the end of Jan.. A lot of places are only open seasonally in the winter. We def. wanted to stay in a place that was downtown in the seaport. We didn't want to stay and Old Mystic and we didn't want to stay up close by 95. I am a member to one of those chain hotel places but I was looking for a quaint little NE Inn/Hotel that we could stay at. I haven't stayed overnight in the Mystic Seaport area prob. since I was a kid but since my parents have moved up to CT about 6 yrs ago Mystic is only 30 min. away. So, my friend went on one of those booking websites where he gets points or something & booked this in we had the standard room w/ 2 DBL beds. We were in Room #8. Check in is at 2 p.m. we ed in 4:30 ish. It is a family-run establishment which is very nice. In those standard rooms there is no refrigerator, coffee maker or microwave. Room also has a nice round wooden table w/ 2chairs, dresser we didn't need it for 1 night. Phone, alarm clock, thermostat so you could make your room as hot as you want or turn it completely off. I read about ppl complaining the room was way too hot well put the AC on turn the heat off and all the windows have screens U can open them. Plenty of outlets I was pleasantly surprised I always travel with an extension cord bizarre that some Shane hotels don't have enough but they did. They have an inground indoor pool open year-round & ice machine located close to our room. Free breakfast incl. but it was more like hot/cold cereal, fruit, yogurts, bagels,English muffins, crombcake & speads. Had toaster & microwave for ur use. However we were looking for eggs, potatoes & meat so we chose to go out found a fabulous place to eat. Across the street there's a food mart that is everything from coffee / tea plenty of towels in the bathroom, neat clean tub shower combo. 2 pillows per bed on flatter side but there are 2xtra along w/2 xtra blankets if needed. We didn't hear/ see any train noise or anything that some ppl previously complained about maybe it's BC it's winter & they don't run as often? I don't know? **FYI**In the state of CT on Sat & Sun alcohol can't be purchased after 9 p.m.. ALSO.. you can only purchase any form of alcohol incl. beer @ a supermarket or liquor store. Obviously they don't sell hard liquor in a supermarket so figured I'd give U that tidbit of info. If U make a R out of the Inn on ur L is a Big Y Supermarket... Lg. selection of beer stuff you've prob. never even heard of. Stock up there & U can create Ur OWN 6 pks.a great wine store in town diagonal from Mystic Pizza about. read more

A friend and I stayed at the Taber Inn for two nights and enjoyed our stay. If you're looking for a relaxing place to stay - then stay here! The room we stayed in was typical of most Inns or B&Bs. It was spacious and had 2 beds, table and chairs, dresser and TV. There wasn't a coffee maker in the room (but there's a great shop across the street with fantastic coffee). Outside there are nice grounds with plenty of chairs to relax in. Self-serve morning breakfast was available and included bagels, cereals, yogurt, coffee, etc. The staff are really terrific and very helpful. They made me feel right at home. Tip: in their website it sounds like the Inn is within walking distance of a lot of things, but it isn't. There are some restaurants and ice cream shops close by, but to get to the center of Mystic (on the river) you'll need to bike (they have some) or you'll need to drive. read more

When I entered the room, I was greeted by ants in the bathroom and brushed it off as ok just a few, after seeing more in the bed and nightstand I called the front desk night mgr. to be told I must have brought them in the room? I called 2 wks and 1 wk prior to arrival trying to ensure the crib /refrigerator were placed in the room for my baby to be able to nap upon arrival. To my surprise it was not and I was really upset as I called twice trying to ensure this was done. I needed to move my stuff and my baby stuff by myself to another room late at night and the a/c wasn't working on an extremely hot night and was told just open the window, you will be fine. I finally figure out the a/c wasn't plugged and it started working and the room cooled after a few hours. The next day I spoke to the manager and he stated you're making this a big deal and you cant stay in the room from last night and we only have the original room (bedbugs available). I stated that's not right, as i have a baby and the room is not safe. I raced to find another hotel room during my vacation and lost time in doing so. Overall the experience was extremely disappointing and I always try to stay at local places to help the small businesses but the whole experience will have me stay at well -know names going forward. I hope the manager /owner and staff truly try to understand the customer point of view going forward. read more

I stayed at Taber Inn this past July while I attended school on Ender's Island (part of the Fairfield University Masters program). I was very happy with my choice of hotel. Continental breakfast includes good coffee, OJ, bagels, cereals, toast, etc. I don't like hot food in the morning so this was perfect for me. I really appreciated how the bagels and toast were in individually wrapped bags so if you needed to take breakfast on the go, you could easily. Breakfast is served from 8-11 AM which was really great - most places it is a much shorter time window. It's nothing fancy or elaborate, but it's all I wanted. The first night I stayed in a deluxe jacuzzi room which was amazing! The jacuzzi tub was wonderful and the room had its own couch and fireplace. For the rest of my stay, I was in a standard room with two double beds. Rooms have their own A/C units. I didn't have a problem with noise because I slept with the A/C unit on plus a white noise machine and earplugs. (I am a very light sleeper - and while I was at Taber Inn, I slept like a log. That's honestly the highest compliment I can give because that never happens at hotels for me!) Most of the rooms are motel style in that they open onto the outside, not into a carpeted indoor hallway. The rooms are clean and decorated in a very quaint, sort of old fashioned way. I thought it was really sweet! Unfortunately there are no fridges in the room which would have been a nice bonus. I liked that the hotel had its own charm and personalized style unlike most chain hotels. Wifi is very iffy and I mostly used data the whole time I stayed there, as the Wifi signal wasn't strong enough to use. (If you are someone that needs to do work on your laptop, this may be a problem for you.) The housekeeping staff were excellent and so were all the staff I encountered in general. PAPER THIN WALLS. We came for a romantic weekend (the jacuzzi was great) but listening to the room next to us cough all night plus their baby coughing and a couple have an argument on the shared porch... we just wanted to sleep! I shouldn't know every detail of the conversations going on in the rooms beside us. I could hear every move they made! Of course, my boyfriend could sleep through all of it. Another thing, the heat in the room was CRANKED. We opened windows but there are no screens and that just made the arguing neighbors more audible. Privacy would be cool for a romantic getaway, wouldn't you think? I'm all about the jacuzzi though and the bed was nice. The fireplace would have been romantic had the thought of a fire not made me physically sick due to the surface of the sun-like temperature they keep the room at (seriously, though, we shut the thermostat off and it's still ten thousand degrees in here and I'm naturally cold, what gives!?) The staff was friendly and it's clean, smells of bleach and chlorine which makes me feel secure so three stars well earned! read more

I'm what they call an "easy guest" when it comes to hotels. It doesn't take much to please me, and I can overlook minor imperfections or shortcomings . That being said, it is SUPER nice when I don't have to. The Taber Inn was a place with which I could not find fault. Everything was PERFECT. Calling you by name. Smiling. Making you feel welcomed. Asking if everything is okay and if you need anything in a SINCERE way. These little things are becoming more and more rare in the hotel industry. This place nailed it, with a grace and ease that indicates that this is what they do every day, with every guest. The person who checked in before me was a real jerk. It was obvious that they were having a bad day, and were on the hunt for a reason to blow up. Not only were they handled with kindness, the employees didn't yield to the temptation to make disparaging comments once the jerk had left the room. I got up to the desk and shook my head and said "Wow" after the jerk had left. The person on the desk didn't rise to the bait. They greeted me with professionalism and pleasantness, and let their experience of having had to deal with the jerk not taint my check in. I was impressed. The facility itself was nice and clean, and the location was good. What stood out to me, however, was the people that work there. read more

Stayed here with my son and mom a few weeks ago and not only did they have a pack and play so I didn't have to bring mine they also ended up upgrading us to a suite so we had more room with the baby. My husband and I go to Mystic for our anniversary every year. Our usual Inn was booked so we stayed at the Taber Inn. We were really pleased with the room, it was spacious, clean, with a fireplace and a jacuzzi in the room. We met the Tabers as well and they were so nice!!! The indoor pool was warm and clean. I have been stressed and needed a relaxing weekend away so I booked a room for my husband and myself at the Tabers Inn in Mystic Connecticut. Below is my review of the Inn: The Taber Inn was the worst!! My husband and I only averaged about 3 hours of sleep per night due to the old mattresses on the beds, it was sleeping on springs all night...I had a horrible back ache from my "relaxing" weekend and my husband was hurting too. Not only were the mattresses as old as the inn but there was a strange odor which caused both of us to wake up with a sore throat each morning. The continental breakfast was a joke, the coffee was so bitter and awful, we could not drink it. The previously frozen plain bagels in baggies along with 2 slices of bread in baggies makes you wonder how many days they have already been put out. The Danish was cut into bite size pieces??? Ridiculous! No fresh fruit, fresh donuts, fresh anything! I could not find one positive comment, not to mention it starts at 8:00. My husband and I are early risers and ended up at Dunkin Donuts for coffee and after going to the continental breakfast, ended back at Dunkin's for a breakfast sandwich and a second cup of coffee. I couldn't believe what a bad experience staying at your inn was, the pictures on line look very nice, unfortunately it was not the case. To pay $150 a night in February, I expected much more, at the very least a nice comfortable bed. I would suggest doing away with the "continental" breakfast and putting coffee makers in the rooms, there was nothing in the rooms, no microwave, no fridge, nothing. I'm use to going to a hotel and enjoying a good night's sleep, not the case here!! Your main problem are the beds unless it was only our room and we were the "lucky ones" to get it.... We did enjoy Mystic and will return in the summer but not to the Taber Inn ever!! The only positive is the location, close to everything but since it is a small town I believe the good location goes for all the hotels in the area so it's not much of a selling point. read more

Stayed for 2 nights in a suite with a king bed, spa tub, electric fireplace and patio access. The room rate was very reasonable and the suite was spacious. It was quiet, clean, and simply charming. The continental breakfast offers cereal, toast, pastries, bananas, yogurt, juice, English muffins, and hot beverages. The downtown Mystic area with the drawbridge and restaurants is about a 15 minute walk away. I would definitely return! read more

I'm super bummed. This place was recommended by the Whaler Hotel which was full. I'd say I'm pretty flexible. But this.... $189 for a double room on a Saturday in February. Ok. It looks cute from the outside. It's a motel style place so you are entering your room from outside. But the room! Remote is halfway broken. No room service. No restaurant or bar. Office closes at 10pm. Pool closes at 8:30. A 20 minute walk to downtown. No coffee maker or tea in the room. No fridge. Wine glasses in the room for some reason but no wine and no option to order it. Dated beds and tables. Bad soap. Bath was slow to fill and barely enough hot water for one bath. The TV (which is a small monitor on top of a large cable box) stopped working altogether at one point. There were even ants in the bathroom :-/ It started to seem like a practical joke! I hate to post this negative review but people should know about it! We thought we were coming for a relaxing quaint night but it's ended up being pretty disappointing. I guess for $189 I'd expect something beyond a sub par motel room. read more

Stayed here for a weekend in June, the height of tourist season but you wouldn't know it here. This is right off the main drag, but the property is quiet and well-maintained. This place seems to cater to couples and older people, which is nice for those who prefer their vacations free of screaming children. Taber Inn is a complex of buildings, so you can literally park right outside your door, saving yourself trips up and down stairs or in crowded elevators. The rooms are simple and clean, with a small tv. The bathroom was one of the few I have experienced while traveling that didn't gross me out at all. In the main building - which I had the good fortune to stay in - your back door opens up to a communal deck that's a perfect spot to have your breakfast. Yes the continental breakfast is largely bought-in pastries but there's also fresh fruit and cold cereal. Mrs Taber herself walks the property and sometimes works the main desk. Very nice woman. Check-in/-out was very easy. They have discounted tickets for the Seaport too so make sure you grab them before they sell out for the weekend. I look forward to going back.
