While on a non-scripted drive up the coast, we stopped in Mystic for the night and stumbled upon the Steamboat Inn, where we just happened to find a vacancy. Oh my goodness, words can't describe our good fortune! Our room was right on the dock by the drawbridge, which suited us "boating people" perfectly! Very reasonably priced, the accommodations included a parking voucher, a very comfortable bed decked with luxury linens and fluffy pillows, a fantastic shower with big thirsty towels, beautiful antique furniture, and a SURPRISE!! a fantastic breakfast in the upstairs breakfast room, cooked and served by Lisa at a tabled reserved for us! It couldn't have been better if we'd researched and booked months ahead! We'd rate it a 10 if we could!!! read more

Review This is a small b&b. We stayed here because our usual inn a few miles away was booked. It's located at the back end of a busy parking lot in Mystic, and the room windows look out onto the Mystic River and a public dock (with a sightseeing sailboat tied up to it) right near the drawbridge in town. It's not a particularly quiet spot. But during the summer, Mystic is packed with people. This Inn is not bad, but I don't believe it warrants the high rating it has. The front desk person is very friendly, and our room was clean and nice. But don't expect to sleep well past 6:45 or so. There's noise from the outside, but worse than that, the fellow who prepares and serves breakfast (in 3 time slots) is very loud. And, he's very unfriendly and actually a bit nasty. He got testy with my wife at our first breakfast, and with me both days I asked for coffee. (I didn't waste my time on day 3!). We'll probably not return to the Steamboat, and he is pretty much the reason why. We don't need nastiness or "attitude" in the morning when we're paying good money to stay at a place. Note to owner: keep a real pot of coffee out in the morning for guests who would like to start their morning with a cup of fresh coffee, not K-cup junk. That way, the nasty breakfast guy won't have to tell guests that "No one told me I'm supposed to have coffee going all the time. If you want coffee there's a Keurig in the hall." (And when I told him I don't want Keurig coffee, he said, "well, I guess we don't need the Keurig anymore."). Better yet, keep a real pot of coffee going AND find a more guest-friendly breakfast person - someone with decent people skills! That guy is horrible! read more

Absolutely amazing little inn, the room and atmosphere was great and our room had a great view of the water. Unfortunately we had to leave pretty early on our check out day and would have loved to stay longer. Breakfast was unbelievable, I don't think I've had a better breakfast sandwich, and we were super grateful for the gluten-free options. read more

We loved our stay at the Steamboat Inn. We recently stayed for two nights and couldn't be happier. The location is perfect for walking the town, watching the drawbridge and having access to so many little restaurants and activities. We stayed in the Kathleen suite and it was incredible. The first floor room is exceptional. Walking in the door, you step into a large entry way, walk down a long hallway with a kitchenette, coffee maker and wine machine to pour yourself a glass anytime you would like. Walking into the bedroom and bathroom area, there is a large and tall king bed with a wall of windows and French doors that open to a large living room with sofa, chair, coffee table, and armoire with a TV. The room was quiet, although you do have people walking by the windows in the living room it isn't disruptive at all. We slept great, and I was grateful for the step stool next to the bed, it is tall and cozy. The bathroom is huge with plenty of counter space, nice shower and a jacuzzi tub. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for more. The atmosphere was spectacular, views amazing and breakfast was incredible. For breakfast you have two time slots to choose from, either 7:30 am or 8:30 am. You choose your breakfast from a menu the evening before and turn it into the office. When you walk upstairs to the breakfast room, each table has the suite name on it so you know where you are sitting. The women working and cooking are so friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was scrumptious and plentiful. Parking looks difficult, but it isn't. Upon check in you are given a pass to park that allows in and out privileges. But we didn't really need it as we walked to everything we wanted to see and do. Don't hesitate in staying at this beautiful inn, it is well worth it and we would stay again given the chance. read more

Our second night in Mystic we stayed in the Caroline room at the steamboat. This is a first rate inn, very clean and we had our own private entrance right on the pier! The bathroom was huge! A very nice shower and an immense jetted soaking tub for us to take advantage of. We also had unforgettable views of the Mystic river. We had a perfect range of vision of the drawbridge going up from our room as well, everyone stops to watch that! It's perfectly located from downtown, only 5 minute walk from all the shopping and restaurants that Mystic has to offer. Sadly we missed breakfast because we had to start our travels early being that we were headed to Maine. I would definitely recommend this and hope to come back again. read more

We had been coming to Steamboat Inn several times before covid and stayed this April. It wasn't a cheap stay. It was $1,000 for 3 nights. We chose the last 3 days of the month to be able to use the fireplace. May 1st is the cutoff point. We stayed in the Mystic room which has beautiful views of the river. It is a corner suite, windows on 2 sides. They used to serve Sherry and cookies in the evening but they stopped that since covid. They limit the water to 1 per person per day after that they charge for it. There are 3 choices for breakfast which is fine. They used to have a wood bin where you just get some wood and take it to your room and burn as long as you want. Now they give you a duraflame log. There was one hostess named Beth that was not pleasant and very snippy. My husband asked for a second log and she said you only get one per day. He asked for a little later check out and she sniped back we are all full which they weren't. We came at the end of April specifically to be able to enjoy the fireplace so it was quite disappointing and unpleasant. Needless to say we probably won't choose this Inn to stay again. It's too bad because we had great memories there but this one ended on a sour note. read more

Best location for visitIng Mystic We have visited Mystic on a few occasions over the years but in the last few years were overwhelmed with the crowds and difficulty finding a parking space. Steamboat Inn is very close to the bridge and has parking included. We walked to all the restaurants and drove to other places, like the aquarium. We had the Kathleen suite, on the first floor and riverfront. Room was spacious, clean, bed very high. Breakfast was wonderful in the dining room. read more

This hotel was a lovely place to spend my birthday weekend (2024). The rooms were uniquely designed and ours was situated right on the water. The people who worked the front desk and prepared our breakfast were hospitable and accommodating. We enjoyed spending an hour or so in the break room, just chatting and playing games. This quaint small inn is centrally located to everything in Mystic. It is on the river right near the center of town making everything accessible and walkable, which we did. The inn has a very good breakfast with plenty of food. Only three choices. And because we stayed for four nights, we had to repeat menus. The room is comfortable but a little dated and in need of an update. The couch for example was pretty well worn and kind of dirty. The bed was comfortable. The shower was excellent. The staff were extremely nice and looked after all of our needs. Definitely stay here again given the great location. read more

PSA..tldr: call and ask if the oil leak situation has been resolved! The Inn doesn't seem to think they should inform you of their ongoing oil clean up. If you stay in the Harmony room (lol!), you will be rattled to your core by the tanker trucks working incessantly right outside your window, which seems to begin promptly at 9am. A nice chemical smell adds to the ambiance. No chance of having a relaxing stay! We had to leave the room and stay away until the work stopped for the day. Spent two nights. Went home unrested and irritated! They did not know how long the situation would be ongoing but I think it should be mentioned on their website or in an email alerting you of the disruption and then you can make an informed decision knowing what you may be walking into. read more

What a wonderful experience!! I stayed for one night over Labor Day weekend and couldn't have been happier. I stayed in the Summer girl room which offered a perfect view of the bridge and river with a floor to ceiling window. The room was very clean and had a cozy, home like feel to it. The common room offered fresh cookies in the evening and breakfast in the morning exceeded my expectations. It included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast and fruit just to name a few and everything was hot and delicious! The staff was so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure you were happy and enjoying your stay. I would love to go back in the fall or early winter and enjoy the fireplace while soaking in the beautiful view! read more

What a magical place!!! We spent two nights here, and it could not have been more perfect. you would expect some noise , being right off of the main road, but we heard not a peep down by the docks. Our room was immaculate, and everything was sanitized, and placed in plastic bags. We had Ariadne, and it had am amazing view of the river. we sat outside at night, and watched the jellyfish, crabs and fish swim my. The staff was polite and non intrusive. Absolutely gorgeous place! Everyone was so kind at check-in. We got a tour of the upstairs common room which is stocked with complimentary water, soda and snacks 24/7. They also offer a free hot breakfast in the morning and cookies and sherry in the evening. We stayed in the Kathleen- it is their biggest room and is downstairs with a private outside entry. The room had a king sized bed and a pull out queen couch. The room was immaculate! There is a nice view of the river from the sitting room. The bathroom was huge with a whirlpool tub and shower and stocked with shampoo, soap etc. The hotel is located in the center of Mystic and is walking distance to pretty much everything you need! We will be returning here during the summer hopefully. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful 2 night stay at the Steamboat Inn in Mystic. The location of the inn is excellent. Mystic waterfront shops and restaurants are all within walking distance. The room was called "Summer Girl." It was clean and beautifully decorated with a wonderful view of the river. The only real complaints I would have was that the bed was pretty hard, so not the most comfortable for me. Also, there is a wine dispenser in the room, but no coffee machine which was kind of a bummer. You have to walk down the hall in the morning to the coffee machine. The other issue was that the room was really warm. I had the windows open most of the time in February and the heat off. Breakfast was very good and they accommodated my food allergy very well. All in all an excellent small inn in a wonderful location! read more

This is the place to rest your bones and experience the typical New England fishing village vibe. This classic beauty is located smack dab in the middle of the quaint and cozy town, with river views from all the rooms. The inn exudes old time New England charm, but offers rooms with all of modern amenities you need and want. Bathrooms are beautiful, beds are grand with comfy mattresses and pillows, and who doesn't love to stay in a place where the rooms all have old timey names. We stayed in Victoria, which was lovely, and our friends were staying in the the Maria Gilbert, which was even more beautiful with basically a wall of windows overlooking the river. One word of advice, request a room on the second floor because this Inn, located right on the river, has a walkway going in front of it. First floor rooms look out onto the walkway, while from the second floor, you look directly onto the river. Your stay here includes a lovely breakfast with the usual fare, but everything is fresh, hot, and there is a staff member there to accommodate your special requests. Plenty of parking and walk everywhere to a ton of great restaurants and shops. Don't miss the local happy hours, they offer excellent drink and food options. The Mystic Art Museum is basically across the parking lot, and Mystic Seaport is just down the river a piece. Take a walk on the boardwalk and watch the locals fish, or pause for a moment to watch the immense Mystic Drawbridge do its thing. So much to do and enjoy, then return to your hotel for a complimentary 5:00 cookie or a sip of sherry. Nice touch! read more

We came here because it was a honeymoon gift from my mom! This is a awesome Inn. It was the first time I've been to a bed and breakfast. Our room is very nice, we are staying in early dawn. I'll post some pictures of our room a little later. Breakfast this morning was wonderful, fruit salad, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, bagels, muffins, scones, coffee cake, coffee, orange juice and maybe cranberry juice. There was also cheese, yogurt, cereal and quiche! It was great. We probably don't need to go to any breakfast places in the morning. The location for this inn is also ideal for shopping and dining. Walking distance to the drawbridge! Love this place, I would stay again if given the chance. read more

This is an amazing place to stay when you're visiting Mystic. I checked in late first night and they left cookies and cider for us next to our fireplace, which goes to show they have a real personal touch. Gorgeous views directly overlooking river and bridge, plus comfy beds, cozy fireplaces, beautiful bathrooms, lots of great artwork on the walls, tons of typically unheard of amenities, a big tasty breakfast bar in the morning, and they even offer complimentary snacks and drinks all day/night, also right next to the best restaurants and shopping in this adorably cute small town getaway. So, I'm torn about this place. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great. The problem was that our room (valiant) was right on a public dock, meaning people were walking right past our window and we had to keep the blinds closed the whole time so we couldn't enjoy the view. They also had painters working right outside our room for our entire stay. On top of all that, there is a tour boat docked right outside the room so you have people lining up right outside the room several times a day. With all of this going on, you really don't want to sit out on the dock. read more

probably your best option in Mystic (but pretty underwhelming... Stayed one night in Oct while passing thru from Boston to NYC. On the plus side; location is FANTASTIC, we had no trouble with outside noise interrupting our sleep, they made a decent enough cup of coffee in the morning (we did not partake in the buffet breakfast), and I'm always a sucker for wildlife outside my window (see photo). On the negative side; the inn keeper (manager?) exhibited zero personality and warmth, hotel overall is a bit old & rundown, beds were cotton-candy soft and the frame of the 4-post bed in our room was so beaten up it appeared to be an original from when there were 13 colonies, and our room had so much (bad, old, cheap) furniture crammed in that it made it difficult to move around the room freely. Unfortunately, there are not any better options in Mystic, which allows this facility to skate by providing the bare minimum, which is unfortunate because it could be so much more... read more

While I would dare not venture here during tourist season..seeing as how we wandered in at 3 pm inquiring about a room, and were given a great suite at a great rate, I will certainly come back again off season. On a weekday. Sparklingly clean large suite with gas fireplace, kitchenette, 2 person hot tub, cushy 4 poster bed, cable, access to the pier, and amenities right outside. My husband and I love to stay here whenever we come to Mystic. Very comfortable bed, huge whirlpool tub that is big enough to fit two men over 6' tall. The view of the river is amazing with the draw bridge raising to let boats past. There is free parking here and you can walk to many stores and restaurants. I would recommend this place any time of the year, but come on the off season and you won't be disappointed. The price is cheaper, and town is less crowded. I am owner of multi store Retail stores and I have experience with customer service. Staff is condescending especially Innkeeper. Paul (one of the owners) was just as condescending and basically ignored what i had said and continually said thats not what happened and defended him and his staff; no empathy and went as far as saying maybe this isnt the place for us. IT IS CLEARLY OBVIOUS that the staff reflects the owners attitude. I wont provide full list the details of my 2nd visit there but i will say its how the staff, innkeeper as well as the owner handles it with their "your inconveniencing me" attitude. (1) Room too hot, could not control it; answer from staff was no one else complained. (2) I asked politely twice if they can change my room if another comes available but they said there was none. I came to find room 2 doors down was available and staff did not contact me. (3) Cut knee on tub and resulted with blood on sheets; asked staff to change it and told me to strip bed myself and dropped new sheets off in room. (4) Asked opinions on what room I should choose when I send my 86 and 89 year old parents there as a holiday gift; innkeeper keeps head down and says they are all nice, i tried to ask for specifics but received one word answers as if i was inconveniencing her. In conclusion, I do not recommend staying there nor will I (rooms are nice and breakfast as well) unless you would like to feel as if your being spoke down too and inconveniencing the owners and staff. read more

Stayed for our honeymoon, great fall vacation. Walking distance to everything, nice pumpkin farm a short drive. Fireplaces ready to light with a box of fire wood in the hall set a great tone. We have stayed at the Steamboat Inn three times and look forward to returning again and again. It is perfectly located right in the center of town, overlooking the river and drawbridge. The women who prepare breakfast are super-friendly and the breakfast buffet options are plentiful (although you might be disappointed if you expect gourmet B&B fare). Both rooms in which we've stayed (Annie Wilcox and Victoria) are spacious with comfy king beds, couches, and fireplaces to add to the charm. If you're a light sleeper, however, I might choose a suite a little further away from the breakfast room. (And hope for less, ahem, "vocal" neighbors than we had during our most recent visit.) All in all, this is a great place to lay your head during your Mystic getaway. read more

We just got home from a 4 day stay at Steamboat Inn. It was a beautiful inn & the staff was beyond friendly. I have not one bad thing to say about it. We stayed in the Carolyn & my dad stayed in the Mystic....both are beautiful rooms, but Carolyn was bigger & I liked the private dock entrance. In a great area with easy walking access to all main attractions. The common room was very inviting & wonderful service. With board games & Complementary water, soda, coffee, fruit, granola bars, candy available all day, delish hot breakfast with healthy options & sherry with homemade cookies at 5pm daily. Very nice touch. Highly recommend & will definitely stay here again. read more

CP and I splurged on a couple of bed and breakfasts while he was out visiting me and this one was the superior of the two for a handful of reasons. The staff here was phenomenal. They were always friendly and enthusiastic. Plus, I really felt like they cared about us having a nice time here. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine because there was construction going on nearby late into the night. They also offered ear plugs if it got really unmanageable. How considerate! Our room was small but that's because I had chosen the cheapest one. (It was still roughly $180 a night.) We did, however, have PLENTY of space. There was a bed, couch and fireplace in the room. And a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. So lovely. We were secluded from everything and the inn was pretty quiet (even with the construction). It was quite romantic, really. We had a beautiful time. The only criticism I would have was that the breakfast was a little uninspired. It was only one notch above a continental breakfast and none of the pre-prepared meats or eggs were really anything worth noting. Some of the pastries were homemade and they were quite good. I only wish this part of the experience had been a little more personal. Regardless, our stay here was exceptional. I appreciated the wifi, free parking, cookies and sherry at five and the overall pleasantness of the place. We would definitely stay here again. read more

This Inn is right on the river in the middle of downtown Mystic making it a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the water sports, shopping, restaurants and park in the area. The rooms are quite nice with a jacuzzi tub, king beds, tv, air, fireplace, and sitting areas. The maid service does a great job. Breakfast in the morning is a variety of eggs and cereals. The only critique is there is no coffee until 7:00 a.m. If I were coming back here this place would be the place I would pick to stay. read more

What a beautiful place to stay in Mystic. I couldn't recommend The Steamboat Inn more highly! The location is perfect, with an easy walk to downtown shops and restaurants. The Inn itself is beautifully appointed and so well managed, with many special touches designed to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. Our Ariadne room was one of the recently renovated rooms, and was so super clean and comfortable, with a lovely sitting area complete with fireplace (and a wine dispenser as an added bonus!). The views of the river are unmatched, and we were lucky enough to be there when the Mayflower was coming through, beginning her journey back to Plymouth! We watched from our room as we enjoyed a fresh and lovely breakfast, delivered right to the room by the friendly and accommodating staff.
