Customer service is absolutely atrocious. I was transferred 5 times and on my way to the sixth transfer. After voicing the fact that I was already transferred 5 times, beginning with an online chat, the nice individual decided to go out of her way to help me. 44 minutes later the issue was finally resolved. I canceled service in 2022 because WM sold my account to a local company that I did not care for. I decided to switch to another garbage company at that time, so I paid in advance and canceled with nearly 3 months notice. Once my service ended, they have continued to bill me for nearly 3 years. Since I have been chucking their invoices into my new service providers bins, they finally emailed me to ask why I have not paid. I reminded them my service was canceled 3 years ago. They said the charges on my account were for bin removal, to which I told them the bin sat on the street for a month before they came to pick it up. All charges are now, supposedly, being waived since they actually checked their records and found I was correct. Now, after 3 years am I finally going to stop getting invoices for services I am not using? No one I know that has either used their services or worked for them has anything nice to say. Worst trash pickup service I've ever experienced. I wish there was a zero star option because they are seriously the bottom of the barrel. Our trash has not been picked up in over 11 days despite it supposedly being every week (aka every 7 days). When I called to let them know they missed a pick-up, they gave me a bogus timeframe that never came to fruition and our trash is still not picked up (4 days AFTER our scheduled weekly time). I do want to also call out this is NOT Holiday week, but merely just reflective of their incompetence to perform their paid service. Do not use if you have an option. They will not make a refund on a recurring payment plan, they are charging $ 75 to pick up the cans. I asked if I threw the can away, what would they charge? This horrible company bought out the trash/recycling company that we've been using for several years. We were paying the old company on an annual basis because it is thru our neighborhood HOA and we've always paid extra to have weekly recycling. Only a month or so into taking over, they announced that they were suspending recycling service for three weeks due to drivers being sick with omicron. I can understand that this could happen and just let the recycling pile high in our wheeled bin, figuring we could make it fit for three weeks. We're now over four weeks into this and our HOA has informed us that they won't be collecting recycling until further notice and no refunds are being given on the service that we already paid for. Today I had to spend over an hour of my time emptying the four weeks of collected recycling in the bin and sorting it all out and bringing it to the Forsyth County recycling station. Waste Management has managed to actually decrease their service while severely increasing their rates. Our rate has more than doubled in the years we've had their service yet they decreased services offered such as recycling and yard waste collection. Their recycling can is smaller than other companies and to add another recycle can they want a huge fee on top of their already extremely high rate. When pick ups are missed they promise to return and never do, leaving the customer on garbage overload until the following week. Their "compensation" offered for a week without service was $1 and change...I'm not kidding, this is what they deemed an acceptable credit for a week without service. read more

We moved into our new home October 2021 and waste management was servicing the previous owners so we signed up. Since then it has been an absolute NIGHTMARE to get trash picked up. We haven't had regular service more than one week and usually go 4-5 weeks without our trash being picked up. We get zero answers from "customer service" and their escalation department isn't any more helpful. There are new excuses each week with the newest being "safety concerns" that no one will describe. We live on a busy street but nothing has changed, no trees or pot holes. HORRIBLE service we are looking for a new provider and will be reporting to the BBB. read more

I had to cancel my service and they were very polite and told me they picked up the cans on the 28th. So cans were ready to go by the curb on the 28th. They were not picked up. So I called and was told they only picked up on Saturdays , still a polite person. Again, cans were place out and ready to go......Monday I chatted and the person said they picked up empty cans on the service day which for me was Tuesdays.. I said could she double check, because I was told two different days previously, and she said " I just told you they day it would be picked up". Let's see if it happens..... RUDE! Prices with WM increased and we switched to a better priced provider. They don't let you cancel online, they force you to call, where I waited on hold for 45 minutes. They charge $75 to pick up the container, except the REAL cost after all their extra charges, was $127.61. A fuel charge of $34.50, franchise fee of $5.67, regulatory cost recovery fee $3.94, and an admin charge of $8.50. What a racket! I will NEVER use this company again, and the only reason I did initially was I live in townhome community and sort of inherited the service, not knowing there were better options when I purchased my townhome. read more

Can't cancel service online, you have to call. I was on hold for an hour. Finally got a person and asked to cancel service at end of month. I was prepaid for another month and they refused to refund me that month (although they did refund my neighbor's payment and started service at end of the month). Waited until end of prepaid month and contacted them via live chat. Was told to put my trash cans out and they would pick them up. I put them out and they were not picked up. Called them next day and they dropped my call first try. Called back and got a recording saying I could have them call me back in 40 minutes. Waited 2 hours and no call. Called back and was on hold for 40 minutes. Rep told me she would put in ticket to supervisor. Three days after waiting for call back. They called and when I answered it went straight to hold. I hung up after 46 minutes without ever speaking to anyone. My trash cans have been at the end of my driveway for a week waiting for pickup. I can't bring them in because they can't tell me when they will pickup and I don't want to miss pickup. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Whenever truck driver feels your trash container is heavy, he can put a note and not do your service. You call their customers support for next day pickup. They will deny because this driver note and no refund. You have to wait for the service next week. You pay the service fee but their service quality is worse. They use man power short as excuse to not provide service. read more

I could not be more disappointed. Waste Management bought our Advanced disposal, at first things were going ok, price increase, but they did pick up our trash at that time. Then August 20th we received a message that our service was being cancelled as of August 24th....4 days notice which was beyond unacceptable and rude, given they had billed us August 16ht for September through the end of November, and most of us had paid. Here we are September 8th and our trash has never been picked up. Now it is becoming a health hazard with the odors, magets, flys and buzzard circling our neighborhood. Never want to give you a credit. Customer service agents just read from a script "I do understand how frustrating that can be". Don't ever be late on your invoice or assume you will get your invoice. You will get multiple late fees for the same invoice, a huge reinstatement charge that looks like a billing issue, and then late fees on top of that. Some of their customer service reps are nice. Their chat rep decided to educate me on how it was my fault and how I should not be late again... And did not want to admit they have a billing system issue... I will pay the $75 to never do business with them again. After reading the reviews, I am not alone in dealing with their billing errors. read more

Is there a more trash service than WASTE management? We pay for recycling and trash pickup, spoiler alert, both are abysmal. Not consistent if they even come. Earlier this year they increased recycling fees by 20%, while cutting the pickup to every other week instead of every week (the classic pay more for less tactic, wonderful). But you ask, what prompted me to come on here and pen a review? Well, it has now been over a month since our last recycling pickup, and after multiple notifications sent to the waste customer disservice team, and phone calls totaling 2+ hours, the best they can do to alleviate the accumulating pile of materials is to say it will be picked up in two weeks during their normal service schedule. Such a mediocre solution would be somewhat satisfactory if it weren't for the fact that this tactic has been used twice thus far with same result- their high tech 1997 dell computers are showing that our location has been serviced, but as I walk down the driveway to check it daily, and see with my own eyes that this simply isn't true, I have to refute the knowledge of their systems software. Who will believe us if the trash bots won't? I do not know what to do...we are now piling recycling in the garage because we have nowhere else to put it. Perhaps this is the end game. The materials compile until we are lost in our own making, unaware that there ever was a service for removal of such waste. This post has been a waste of my time, but Waste Management is a waste of social time. Do not ever be deceived by their colorful logos and happy faces marketing. Run far far away. read more

Since taking over from Advanced Disposal, WM has not met a single scheduled pick up day and typically leave behind bagged yard waste, recycle bin or both. When contacted will say they will pick up in 1-2 business days but just leave it until their next random delayed pick up. read more

Horrible waste service! We signed an agreement for weekly commercial waste removal & the driver broke our brand new lock the FIRST week. When I brought it to their attention the first time, they said they'd get a new lock out to us. Nothing. I called a 2nd time and they told me it didn't go through the first time & that they would get a new lock for us. Nope, they changed our dumpster to a smaller dumpster! When I told them the dumpster was smaller, they said it wasn't, even though all 10 of us employees saw that it was. The 3rd time I asked about our broken lock, they said they don't reimburse locks. Horrible communication, obviously. They don't even show any "notes" about our service or the smaller dumpster. They also charged us $150 overfill fee for overfilling the mini dumpster.....Fast forward a couple months, our company has been bought out by another company & they will not be using Waste Management. However, WM wants to charge us for breaking the agreement, even though we are being bought out by another company and dissolving the current one. Doesn't make one bit of sense. A COOL SOLUTION FOR YOUR CONSTRUCTION AND HOUSEHOLD WASTE: THE BAGSTER! The Bagster is a service provided by Waste Management. It's simple, you just go to your local store, (like Home Depot or Lowe's), and purchase a bag for approximately $30, sit it on your driveway and proceed to fill it with construction materials. There are several options for purchasing you bag including Amazon, so just check out the website. Now these bags are not obtrusive or unsightly at all so there was no problem. My contractor likes to clean up as he goes so this was a great option. I was super impressed with how much material could be placed in a single bag. We were able to discard an entire master bath including all flooring and all fixtures and I do mean tub, toilet, shower, vanity and more! Once the bag was filled, I simply went on line to schedule a pick up. It only cost $140 and if you have additional bags the price will decrease for the second bag to $107. They give you a three day window and send you a "The Bagster is on the way" message once they have a more specific day. They can pick up as early as 5 am, but they do not pick up on the weekend. Once they arrive, it only takes approximately five minutes for them to literally hook the bag and remove it. So simple, quiet and clean! Awesome! ***Once you purchase your bag, you will get complete written instructions on how to use it, how to fill it and how to place it on your property for pick up. This was a very convenient service and I highly recommend this option over that big obnoxious metal dumpster sitting in your driveway! read more

I have been a WM customer for 2 years. They encouraged me to enroll in automatic payments, "for my convenience," so I did - which was great while I was their customer. But I recently sold my house and that changed. My automatic payment had already gone through for 10/1 - 12/31; I called on 10/7 and asked to cancel my services and receive a refund for the three upcoming months that had automatically charged, minus the one pickup day that had already passed in that period (even though the house has been empty and I haven't had the cans out for pickup in 6 weeks). They admitted that it COULD be done but that they WOULDN'T refund the prorated portion because it wasn't policy. No one notified me this was a stipulation - looks like it is just an easy way for them to keep your money if you enroll in autopay, and no customer courtesy to return your payment of services they won't be providing. We have been a customer of Waste Management for years. They used to be reliable and customer service used to be responsive. Past tense. Neither of these things applies anymore. The proverbial straw that broke the camels back is the most recent occurrence of "customer service " or lack thereof. Three weeks ago we notified Waste Management that our trash can was cracked. We were told that it would be exchanged after that weeks collection or the next. Both collections came and went with no replacement. We called again and were told that for some reason a call ticket had not been generated and we would have to wait until the next weeks collection day. After examining the trash can again, I called them back to let them know that the crack was getting larger and the can would not last much longer. I also told them that if the can broke and the trash went all over the street, that they, not I, would have to pick it all up. Well, this weeks collection day came and they threw the can in the garbage truck along with the trash, it was so damaged. A replacement was not left! The next morning my husband called and he was told that they had come by at 8:30 a.m. to drop off the replacement can but didn't leave it because we didn't leave the broken one out. My husband told them that we couldn't leave out a can that they had taken and disposed of the day before. We told them that we would like the replacement can by the end of the day. We were then told that they couldn't do that and we will have to wait until next weeks collection day. We have nothing to put our trash in! They don't care. They told us to just put it out in bags! As if they're going to pick up the mess that is made after animals tear them to shreds to get at meat scraps from a weeks worth of meals! They also refused to give us any sort of credit to offset the fact that they will not be picking up any trash next week because we will have to dispose of it elsewhere until they get around to replacing the trash can that they broke in the first place, and picked up! The bottom line is that they made a mistake and they clearly don't feel the need to make it right in a timely fashion. I think it's time to take our business elsewhere! read more
