I almost don't even want to give a review because 1 star for this company is being GENEROUS. I've had them since 2019. When I first set up my service, they missed my house for 2 months every single week. I called every week to schedule a pick up, and then they wouldn't even promise to come for 72 hours. After 72 hours they wouldn't come, and then it was another 72 hours until my actual trash day arrived....which they never showed up to. Fast forward to 6 years, i have had intermittent service during this whole time. Some weeks they will come, others they won't. Whenever I call the office to complain, the customer service person (who is very kind) says they will ask the supervisor to call me. They have NEVER called me back. This last week, they missed my trash pick up, I called, complained, they said they would pick it up that same day, they didn't, I called again, asked to speak to the supervisor, they put in a request, I didn't get a call, and they also missed my pick up AGAIN. It has now been weeks, and I have THREE BAGS of trash sitting on my PORCH because my can is so full. This has happened so often, and sometimes I will walk outside and see that animals have opened the trash bags, and then there is open trash all over my porch. It's truly caused me so many headaches over the years. The only reason I have stayed is because there is NO other company offering service in this area. I am about to cancel my service this week. I've had enough. At least then I know they will be guaranteed to pick up my trash. read more

I have just about had enough of GFL. Throughout the years I've had issues here and there, but for some reason this year it's been absolutely ridiculous! I have had several months where I had to call in for missed pick ups. Calling customer service has been a waste of time. The trash would still sit out at the curb for days before pick up, even after making several calls to customer service and sending requests for missed pick ups. I keep trying to figure out what the issue is why this keeps happening, but no one can give me an answer as to why dispatch is missing my pick ups so frequently. My trash is always in the right location with the right content and is always put outside the day before my scheduled pick up date. There are no excuses for why this keeps happening. I am seriously considering changing to a different waste collection company. This company does not have good customer service and apparently does not value their customers. I am fed up! read more

They routinely skip the weekly trash pickup, which is the one thing they are being paid to do.

They missed my trash pick up on 11-01-24. I called them at 9:42 am to tell them that I saw the truck blow past my block and exit the community. I was told they would notify dispatch. I called them again at 3:52 pm to notify them my trash still had not been picked up. I was told they work till 5 pm. I told them that they had never picked up my trash after 2 pm and I knew they would not be back that day and the lady insisted I be patient. Fast forward to Monday at 8:01 am. Same BS from rep about possibly picking up later Monday or Tuesday. I called Tuesday at 4:58 pm and was told they had 24 to 48 hours to pick up. Wednesday 2:39 pm my trash can still not emptied so I called a competitor and arranged a new service. I called GFL back and asked them for the third time to please have someone in authority call me and was told they also had 24 to 48 hours for that. Saturday am still no call from anyone in authority at GFL. The only thing they did as planned was to pick up my old cans when I cancelled my service so they get one star for that. The new company is more money but at this point I just don't care. I also asked for a refund for my 2 months of unused service and was told they do not refund and money for unused service. Sorry to be so long winded but it's the principal of the matter that forced me to write this review. There is no excuse for this level of poor service from a national company. read more

They raised rates 30% in the last 2 years and missed so many recycling (occasionally trash) pick-ups that I lost count. FYI.... if you cancel before the end of your PRE-PAID 3 month cycle then they do not refund any money... not a good way to keep customers and that guarantees that I will never go back. When it was Waste Industries they provided reliable trash and recycle pick up. They became GFL and the price has gone up 75% in 3 years and the service has become totally unpredictable. Rarely are trash and recycle picked up in the same week. And most weeks, cans have to stay out for 3 or 4 days until a truck comes by. I've had GFL waste industries a long time, here in Raleigh. I tried a different company, they were better but then GFL bought them out. So, from that they are probably the largest company serving this area. I've never in my life had such terrible trash pick up. They are NOT reliable. The main office is in Baltimore Maryland. They often miss picking up the weekly trash, but they are slightly better than they used to be. I don't know if you can find anything else, since they bought the compettion out. If you call them and tell them that they missed your street, they lie and tell you to keep the trash out for 24 -48 but no on EVER shows up. They've done this to me several times. They only pick my trash up every 2 weeks sometimes 3 and it's supposed to be picked up weekly. I have cameras and my trash can stays at the top of the driveway. Moved into our house May 31, called to have our trash cans delivered and they told us they'd be delivered June 7th. Date comes and goes and there's no trash cans. We call again a couple of days later and they tell us they should be there the next day. Next day comes and goes and still no trash cans. We call again after a couple of days and they tell us again they'd be delivered the next day. The next day comes and goes yet again and no trash cans. We are now at 2 weeks of being in the home with nowhere to put our trash and just piles of trash now in our garage which is completely unsanitary and disgusting. I have a small child and cannot take piles of trash to the dump with my baby in the car nor can I leave her at home. Called again today and got told yet again they'd be delivered there next day. When I told the lady that we have been told this repeatedly she completely brushed me off and ignored my concerns. Not expecting them to deliver tomorrow. This is both literally and figuratively trash service. Definitely do not recommend. I am so mad. About ready to just put all this trash in the street. read more

Over the past three years on average they only picked up trash on the correct day maybe twice a month. Some weeks our road is completely missed. I've had to call about once every couple months because they completely skipped us. This last week they didn't come on Tuesday as posted for the pickup day. I gave them a couple days. Nothing. Called customer service and they said they made notes and it would be picked up Friday. Nothing. I called today (Monday) and I got a representative that was so obviously uninterested in my problem. They gave me a credit for the last week (no apology whatsoever) and said they would make notes. The notes mean nothing. The people that pick up our trash don't care. The company doesn't care. Customer service doesn't care. It's pathetic. Also, when they spill trash as they pick up they never stop and clean it up. Irresponsible and useless. read more

I have made multiple calls and spoken to several different people at the Garner office. My mothers trash services are paid yet she has not had her trash picked up more than twice in the past 3 months. There are promises to correct the issue, send a special truck out to pick up the trash, and to replace the trash can. Absolutely terrible!!! I started service with them 2 months ago, and our service day is supposed to be Tuesdays and they have picked it up on a Tuesday one time! As of now, our trash has not been picked up in 3 weeks. I I have sent 3 missed trash service tickets via their website and my husband has called and they promise to come get it and never do. We have been a customer of GFL/Waste Industries since they purchased the local (and very reliable) Veteran's Waste franchise a few years ago. With GFL, a month doesn't go by without some type of issue -- typically missing our weekly recycling pick up, even though the cans are always at the curb the night before. The fun then starts when trying to contact GFL for resolution. Their website is useless -- no easily accessible phone # or link for 'missed service'. Once you search the web (rather than their website), and find a phone #, rest assured you'll wait forever to get someone on the phone -- M-F only that is. You'll then be met with RUDE, impatient reps who immediately assert that the trucks must have been through before our cans were out... and in the next breath say with attitude that THEY EACH FIELD 150 OR MORE SIMILAR CALLS PER DAY (!) from irritated customers who were also missed. Hmmmm... clearly a GFL field performance issue. The best part is that there is never an apology for poor service or the inconvenience, and you're informed to call back at the end of the day tomorrow if they haven't been out in the meantime. Seriously??? Our pickup day is Thursday, and sometimes Friday when they feel like it. If they miss you on both of those days, just know that they're not open on the weekends, so you'll need to call back on Monday to hope to get your pickup by EOD on Tuesday. And all of that with ATTITUDE. GFL just hired a new Chief Operating Officer -- Greg Yorston -- who lives in Raleigh. If he's a GFL customer, he'll experience this 'service' soon enough. Hope he reads these reviews and tries to walk a week in his customer's shoes. Our neighborhood has had it with this company. Zero stars would be too generous. read more

If I could give Zero stars I would! This has been one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with. They do not provide the service you pay for. I've call so many times that I've lost count! I left the manager a message and had no response. I cancelled my service in Dec 14, 2020 and was told I would received a refund and the trash and recycling would be pick up that week, once cans are empty to leave them out so they could be removed. It's now Jan 3, 2021 and the trash is still in front of my house. And I still have not seen a credit from cancelling this horrible service. I was told the cans need to be at the side of the road for pick up or they wouldn't remove cans. During the last two weeks of bad weather the cans have been blown over about 5 times. Love these guys. I've used them for awhile to pick up my trash and recycling and haven't had any problems with them. Well...except for one time in which I forgot to put my trash out and when I reached out to them they quickly came a few hrs. later to pick it up. (Great service guys!) Was a solid company with no issues for 10 years. 8 weeks ago they stopped picking up recycling. After the 3rd week of me calling them to get the recycling I decided to switch to a more reliable local company. Since cancelling it has taken 6 calls with customer service to have them pick up my cans for good. Each time they said they would be picked up that day and it was like Groundhog Day. Used to be Waste Industries but is now called GFL Environmental. This company has not been dependable in sticking to the trash pickup schedule. They have missed picking up my trash several times over the past few months. I use this company for weekly garbage pickup and I need dependability. It has become more trouble than it is worth to have to call the office and report the missed pickup just to find out what has happened. Usually the truck couldn't finish its route and would pick up the next day but that meant having to leave my trash can out in front of my house two days in a row and I don't like doing that. The people I have spoken to at GFL have been professional and seemed to have tried within their best ability to help. I realize they are dealing with the bad situation their company has put them in as best they can. Yesterday they missed my pickup again. When I called today the lady told me she would send someone out to pick up the trash tomorrow. That would be three days my trashcan would have to sit out in front of my house and I would have to spend time monitoring the situation to make sure my trash actually got picked up. By the time I hung up I was just done dealing with it so I called another local trash company and started a new service with them. It only took five minutes and I know they are reliable because they pick up my neighbor's trash. Then I called GFL back and cancelled my service there. I knew I had done the right thing in cancelling when the lady who handled my cancellation told me that in order for them to pick up the trash can, which mind you still has trash in it, I would have to roll my trash can out every Tuesday night, waiting for a Wednesday pickup for the next four to six weeks. I couldn't believe my ears. I even wrote down her instructions while she was on the phone and read them back to her to make sure I had heard right. My trash was not picked up on Monday. I called about it and the lead supervisor said they would get to me when they could get to me, he was very rude. They have over 20,000 customers and made it seem like the "county" customers are not important. This was the worst experience with trash pick up I have ever had. I had to call almost every week to get them to pick up my trash and or recycling. We finally switched over to Carolina trash pickup and they're wonderful. The one star in this review is for the team of girls who had to answer the phone each week when I called. Don't waste your time with this company. This is probably the worst customer service experience I've had in a long time! I am getting rid of their service completely based on my experience. I kept having to call about missed collections even though we put our bins up the night before. When you call customer service they are rude, unapologetic, and just flat out lie to you. Last week we had our bins out and only the recycling was picked up. I called about my trash and they said someone would be there to pick it up and that the truck hadn't come by yet. No one ever came. This was Wednesday. So I called again on Thursday and was told the same thing again, that someone would come. I am a reasonable person. I understand we had weather last week but I really don't appreciate being lied to two days in a row. I left a message with them on Thursday afternoon explaining that it wasn't picked up again and I understood they may be short drivers but if they could let me know what's going on, then we will make arragements to take our trash to the dump. Waste Industries misses more trash and recycling than they actually pick up. I am on the phone with them at least every other week asking for pickup when they "forget" me. Each time they tell me they will credit my account for the missed pickup (which they never actually do) and say we acknowledge the issue. When I say keep the payment just perform the service I am paying for every time they reply they have noone available for pickup but will be sure to talk to the driver about missing me. As others have reported, Waste Industries bought out a family owned local trash collection company (ABC Sanitation). I put up with poor service from Waste Industries and my trash can being left in the apron of my driveway, until one day the driver left it directly in the middle of the driveway apron. Putting the can in the direct middle of my driveway prevented me from pulling in without having my wife get out in the rain and moving the can. Now this doesn't sound like a problem until you understand that I live directly on Old Stage Rd which is a very busy road with people speeding down the road at 55 miles per hour or so. I had called and complained twice before about the placement of my trash container and was told that they would speak to the driver. That apparently did not work. When I complained about this event, I was told that they use automatic arms on the trucks to lift and dump the container but because of my location, the driver had to actually get out of the truck and retrieve the can. He just left the can and went on. That was the straw that snapped the camels back. Today is 8 days into my cancellation and I was informed that my payment paid in advance of service would not be refunded for approximately 6 weeks. That did not fly at all. They only write refund checks once a month (the month following cancellation I assume). After speaking with a lady in their Billing Department today and complaining about the slow refund, she worked to get it processed sooner and she said I should have a refund in about 5 business days. We shall see. For that the lady deserves a pat on the back. If you live in Wake County in the Garner area I strongly recommend finding alternate sources for your trash collection. read more

Was with Veterans Solutions and WI bought them out. Missed pick ups all the time. Last 6 weeks picked up recycling trash only once and only after I had to complain. You must wait on hold and now it's 32 minutes just to get thru a d cancel this poor service. Stay away, they are to big and don't care about residential service. read more
