Stayed as a visitor in Kent - my hotel looked like it was near the more industrial part. Things…read moreseemed ok there. Also spent time up in the hill at a park that was surrounded by single family houses. I'm no expert of Kent but geographically its close to Seattle which is plus in my book. I think any decent city should have a nearby airport and this city does. Stayed at the Extended Stay in Kent - so my view of the city is limited but still very real. The surrounding areas to the hotel looked clean and industrial. The 7/11 next door didn't attract any trouble and I took a walk in the morning toward the bowling alley and car dealers on the main road and all that looked clean and well cared for too. I did notice one homeless camp in the parking lot of a motel - but everything was clean and orderly and seemingly peaceful. The park I visited was very beautiful. The surrounding nature and the more intentionally designed park were pleasant to be in. The area was of single family homes and up a hill just enough so that you could see out into the distance. During my stay I had no problems and no car break ins (also had an out of state license plate on my car that made me think I'd be a target). As a tourist visiting the greater Seattle area I'd recommend it if you find a room for the right price.

I was finally allowed in at 9:11 AM, checked in at the kiosk, and waited. At approximately 9:32 AM, my number (S196) was called. I explained that I had received a fully favorable decision for both SSI and SSDI and that my concern was specifically regarding my SSDI payment, which had not yet been received despite prior processing steps already being completed. The agent immediately defaulted to a scripted response, repeatedly stating that everything was "being processed," without listening to or acknowledging the specifics of my situation. I clarified multiple times that I had already completed my interview in February and had received SSI, but not SSDI. Instead of addressing the discrepancy, the agent continued to repeat the same generic response. I then requested to speak with a supervisor. I was told I could not, because she had already "answered my question." When I calmly asked again, she closed the window on me without providing her name or any assistance. Security then began pressuring me to leave. I stepped outside, contacted my attorney, and returned to formally request a supervisor. I was made to wait outside again--standing, in the cold--until approximately 10:52 AM before being allowed back in. After additional waiting, I was finally able to speak with a supervisor and file a formal grievance. I left the office at 11:19 AM. This experience reflects a serious lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic respect--especially toward individuals with disabilities who rely on these services. Requiring people to wait outside for extended periods, combined with dismissive and obstructive staff behavior, is unacceptable.

It feels weird leaving a review on Yelp for the Department of Licensing, but I wanted to give a…read moremassive shout out to the best DMV experience I've ever had. I had an appointment to update my EDL as I realized it expired next year on my birthday (in early April, when I'll be out of the country). I looked online and they had multiple same-day appointments or ones roughly 3 weeks out, so I decided to do a same-day appointment about an hour and half later. I grabbed all my documents (I ended up not needed them since I already had my EDL and was just renewing but it was unclear based on the DOL website), then headed to Kent. My appt was at 10:45 but I showed up at 10:37. I checked in via text, then walked in. The front desk worker confirmed that it was indeed me and I did indeed check in online, then directed me to the waiting area. My number was called roughly 90 seconds later, and then I was able to get my eyes checked, take my picture, and confirm my information within the next couple minutes. I was back out at my car to leave at 10:42, before the time of my actual appointment. Huge shout out to the main representative I worked with, Ashley, who was kind, efficient, and fun in an environment that is typically perceived as none of those things. She also had the cutest pink keyboard and was a great representation of the WA DOL.

At that time, they were at #360. The numbers were being called randomly at times for Walk-Ins and Appointments, so had to keep an eye on the monitor for the number and ding sound. The PA system or volume was so low you could hardly hear anything. Was sitting in the waiting area for over an hour. Got called up at 10:45 AM. Shared my required documents (Mail with Name and Home Address on it, a valid U.S. Passport) and current Driver's License. The lady who assisted me was very friendly and helpful. She was knowledgeable and provided adequate details and information about what the Real ID is included with - Radio Frequency Identification) technology, a unique identifier to confirm the authenticity of the ID. After verifying my information on the screen, she took a photo of me and requested the payment. It was only $21.00 since my current driver's license doesn't expire until 2027, so have to wait until 2026 to renew it for an additional 8-year one since it has to be within a year or less until your Driver's License expires to be able to get the extended one. Thanked the nice lady and exited the DMV. It was a good experience, overall... The waiting period was as expected, so be aware of that when you visit... Also, there aren't enough parking spaces close by during peak times, so you might have to park in the back or across the street.

On the 4th on July there's a marina fireworks show & mid summer there's a truly charming parade, local carnival, & farmers market. I had read the reviews ahead of time and took it to heart. I arrived early, found a spot in the garage, brought reading materials, and was good to go. Yes, there's full security here and in my experience this mirrors other government buildings. The officers were serious but cracked a few jokes. The lines moved swiftly. Up to the second floor I went abandoning the elevator as it seemed painfully slow. There are two different types of chairs - soft cushion chairs or plastic chairs. I opted for the soft chairs. The day I went was apparently a light court day as only 100 people were in the room leaving many seats empty. Unlike most people I was selected as part of a panel within 90 minutes. We went to the fourth floor to the courtroom there. The courtroom was much like I expected a courtroom to look. I seriously suspect there's one architect in the whole country who designs courtrooms because they all do look the same. I found the judge to be exceedingly patient. I found the bailiff to be very professional. The lawyers were lawyers. We spent time listening to various questions that helped determine the jury pool. We broke for lunch for 90 minutes. I walked over to Kent Station to take up time. It is a very short walk. Upon returning one of the jurors was MIA so we had to wait until she showed up and then the court decided to take a break so it was another 30 minutes before questions resumed. It was a very interesting process. I don't regret not being selected but I enjoyed seeing how the process worked.

Half of the room is filled with people. Now, it's 8:30am and orientation has not even started, yet! This blows! And they tell you not to be late for jury doody?! Oh for crying out loud! People are still checking in and I have not seen the judge, yet!
