    Washington Commanders wordmark.
    Daniel B.

The Washington Commanders are somewhat of a tough team to rate. In the totality of the franchise's history, Washington has won two NFL Championships (1937, 1942) and three Super Bowls (XVII in 1983, XXII in 1988, and XXVI and 1992). In those days, the Commanders were known as the Washington Redskins (1937-2019). The Redskins were huge when I was growing up. However, in terms of "What have you done for me lately?," Washington has been mediocre at best, most notably after Daniel Snyder assumed ownership of the team in 1999. In the 23 seasons since, Washington has only qualified for the playoffs six times. All six times, they entered as a Wild Card team and never made it past the divisional round. In this sense, Washington is more of a three-star team, but those Super Bowl championships in the 80s and early 90s had a big impact, so I'm giving this team four stars. The legendary Joe Gibbs led Washington to all three of the team's Super Bowl titles. Gibbs has more Super Bowl championships than 23 active NFL franchises. He won back-to-back NFL Coach of the Year awards after the '82 and '83 seasons, both of which ended with the Redskins in the Super Bowl. Three QBs led the Gibbs-coached 'Skins to those championships: Joe Theismann in 1982-83, Doug Williams in 1987-88, and Mark Rypien in 1991-92. Theismann was the regular season NFL MVP in 1983. Williams was named MVP of Super Bowl XXII. He's the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP award. Rypien was a backup to Williams on the XXII-winning team and later took over for Williams, becoming the full-time starter beginning in the 1989 season. Rypien was the Super Bowl XXVI MVP. Washington's first Super Bowl championship team was one of the most decorated. Joining Theismann were kicker Mark Moseley and fullback John Riggins. Mosely was named NFL MVP after the '82 season. To this day, he's the only kicker to win the NFL MVP award. Riggins was MVP of Super Bowl XVII. In the two seasons that followed (1983, 1984), he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns. Of the aforementioned personnel, only Gibbs and Riggins have been inducted into Pro Football's Hall of Fame. And of the aforementioned players, only Rypien was drafted by the Redskins (with the 146th pick in the '86 draft). Since Gibbs' first stint in Washington (1981-1992), the franchise has had 11 different head coaches (including Gibbs' second stint, 2004-2007). Big names and championship coaches have rolled through including Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, Steve Spurrier, Mike Shanahan, and Ron Rivera. None have been able to achieve the level of consistent success that Gibbs had in the 80s and early 90s. Washington has drafted some promising young players over the past decade. A couple examples include Robert Griffin III and Chase Young. RG3, who was selected with the second pick in the 2012 draft, went on to become NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Chase Young was also selected with the second pick, but in the 2020 draft. Due to injuries and other reasons, Griffin's career in Washington was short-lived. His last game as a Redskin was in 2014. Last season (2021), Young's season was cut short in Week 10 after he tore an ACL.

This stadium is nice. Pre season game: WFT X Panthers The floor seats are very comfy. The view was spectacular. They have a lot of options for food and drinks. Watched a great game , no complaints here. Cons: food and drinks are pricey but that's to be expected... parking may be a little Challenging. Pros: nice stadium, lots of food and drink options

WAS v PHI, my first in-person NFL game. Solid 3.5 overall experience thanks to club level seats (section 304) with a great view AND Gold club perks (highly recommend); it's a reward for renewing season tickets for 2+ years that includes FREE soda, popcorn, chips, hot dogs, nachos, pizza, chicken fingers and fries in the designated locations! Stadium holds 85k but was only 2/3 full. Getting into and out of the stadium was crazy even with a platinum park pass. Teams were evenly matched but WAS ended up losing 20-17. Though I didn't have a dog in the fight, it was neat seeing ODU alumn Taylor Heinicke as an NFL starting QB. Masks required to enter. Fan appreciation (last game of season) got us commemorative towels.

The worst stadium I've ever been in in my life! Backed up toilets in the men's room --- bland terrible food. I sat in the front row on the field, and I got a "free" hotdog and a wet seat! #NeverAgain.

On the field Baby!!! Thanks Tif and Reese!

First time to a DC game, stadium overall was a nice stadium. Easy to navigate the sections. Decent availability to food and drinks. Only flaw! The damn parking. Whoa! What a nightmare. Go Bears!!!

7/13/20 If it is true and the team's name is officially retired today, images like this will disappear from The NFL and other places.

7/13/20 and so the song "Hail to the Redskins" is retired along with the icon and hopefully colors too.  The name has sparked a lot of controversy and possibly even fights.    I haven't been to FedEx Field that I can remember.  I wasn't into American Football until the year 2012. I just happen to be following the playoffs and was enjoying what I saw in the Baltimore Ravens.   I found myself getting excited when the team I liked were winning and nervous when they were behind. I had to ask myself "is this what happens when you are becoming a fan of the game/sport/team? The answer to that is a YES. Well I am not a Redskins fan, but I still have some mixed emotions on not seeing the team logo anymore.  The new team names I have heard so far are The Washington Redwolves, The Washington Redtails or The Washington Warriors. Personally I like the name Washington Warriors, but the team shouldn't be coming out to play. (If you haven't seen the movie The Warriors,  there is an improvised scene by done by  David Patrick Kelly. Its creepy and brilliant. Most importantly, adds tension to the movie...but I have never seen the whole movie. Just that scene, but i digress...)  I also like the name The Washington Wolves, but not the Red Wolves...to much of throwback to The Redskins.   I say if the name is going to change, then everything about the team should change too. New Logo, New Team Colors and most importantly new attitudes.  The team motto could be Don't Turn Your Back On The Wolfpack, but the N.W.O (World Championship Wrestling aka WCW'S New World Order had that motto first, but they no longer exist...except on Video,Dvd or Youtube. Still the Washington Redtails and Redwolves are just cheap imitations of the former name Redskins.  RedTails I see people says "The RedaTails  have turned tails and run."   No, the only name that stands a chance this far is The Washington Warriors.    I don't get why The Redskins have their training camp in Richmond Virginia, Play their games in Maryland, and seem to fight for all DC to which they are not really apart of.  Yeah, I do get it, but don't you see the irony in it all? Still, I will miss seeing the Feathers on the Redskins Icon. It what I liked about the icon.  Could the warriors have a tomahawk with a feathers in red or some other color than yellow? Who knows.   I Truly home the name is the Warriors or some name that doesn't have the word RED in it...intact, the team shouldn't have anything to do with the colors red, yellow or burgundy.  Wipe the floor clean...so to speak... Today maybe a lucky day for for some people, for others a nightmare.  However, if Daniel Snyder rushes this name change to fast, all Redskins Fans and Players are going to become the Shmoo...yeah, that luck coin will go from one's pock to the storm drain. We will see soon enough.

Your fans could use some lessons in hospitality and courtesy. Here for the Giants game and wearing some Giants gear, my brother was yelled at and cursed and in general not appreciated for coming here to support the team. In my Miami Dolphins Dan Marino #13, I was at least treated as a non-combatant. Folks, it's a GAME! When one team loses and the other team wins, that doesn't mean that you as a fan are any weaker or stronger as a human being. Calm your ass down. The team itself played well in today's matchup, but they lost this game on penalties. Especially the one for delay of game when one of the players booted the ball into the stands. Sorry, 'Skins. It's one star because some of your fans are over-the-top obnoxious.

I'm a life-long Redskins fan as well. I think I've watched every game since the early 80s with the exception of being out of the country or in Hawaii when they played in London! Not sure why they are on Yelp, but I'll add that their stadium has very nice suites. Wish I could afford one!

The Washington Redskins #HTTR Hail to the Redskins. Yelp Challenge 46 /100 I used to think Daniel Snyder was the worst owner in the NFL but Jed York is giving him a run for his money, for this year alone. When I think of the Redskins, I think of the "Posse". Art Monk, Ricky Sanders and Gary Clark. It was fun watching those guys play together. I also remember Doug Williams winning the Super Bowl and Timmy Smith setting the Super Bowl rushing record. Whatever happened to that dude? The Redskin of all Redskins has to be Darrell Green. That dude played forever. Clinton Portis was one of my favorite players watching for about 7 years. It sucks that injuries cut his career a bit short. Chris Cooley was fun to watch as well. I like RG3 but dude gets hurt way too much. Are the Redskins going to surprise anyone? I doubt it, they play in the NFC EAST. Unless the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants all implode. Then the East will belong to the Skins. Stay up Redskins Nation Vincent D aka VD aka Vebola aka Vincent Vega. Always, Enjoying the simple things in life.

Wooot, RGIII baby!!! We have finally got a QB! Its gonna be a good season! Yes I am a Redskins fan and bleed burgundy and gold! Even when we play like shit, you are my team! Growing up in Japan I didn't get to see a lot of NFL games as there was no such thing as the internet or satellite TV back then. My only means of catching the games were from AFRTS! If you were in the service or a brat like me 20+ years ago you know what I'm talking about. No I didn't grow up in DC, so why you ask am I a Skins fan? Well Art Monk one bad ass WR of the Washington Redskins is a friend of the family. My dad used to babysit him LOL! I have never met him personally but have spent time at this parents home many times and met the rest of the family. If you know anything about football you know the NFC East is a beast with the Skins, G-men, Iggles and Cowgirls. Each divisional game is a trash talking slug fest and none more crazy then the rivalry with the Cowgirls. You never know how its gonna end! The NFC East has been and always will be the toughest division in my book. The franchise has tons of history with 3 Superbowl wins!!! Great players like Joe Theisman, Dexter Manley, Charless Mann, Sonny Juergenson, John Riggins, Doug Williams, The Posse (Art Monk, Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders) The Hogs (Russ Grimm, Jeff Bostic, Joe Jacoby, Don Warren, Ricky Walter, George Starke) and Coach Gibbs. There has been many memorable Redskin games in the years! I have attended games in SD, Arizona and DC. We have a huge fanatic crazy and diehard fan base all around the world including the awesome Hogettes! AND we have the Redskins BAND thats 70 yrs strong and always ready to strike up our fight song!!!! Hail to the Redskins Hail Vic-tor-y Braves on the Warpath Fight for old D.C. Run or pass and score -- we want a lot more! Beat 'em, Swamp 'em, Touchdown! -- Let the points soar! Fight on, fight on 'Til you have won Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Fight!, Fight!, Fight! Hail to the Redskins Hail Vic-tor-y Braves on the Warpath Fight for old D.C. HTTR!

The DC Divas are DC's all-women, all-tackle professional football team. Yes, this really does make…read morethem the female version of the Redskins. The difference is that women's football is rarely recognized as a viable sport, and the support from the NFL and large corporate sponsors has been close to nil. In fact, the Divas used to belong to the "WNFL" division (Women's National Football League, obviously) until the NFL whined and cried, claiming that this name was a trademark infringement and that the women's league would draw attention and fans away from there. Are you SERIOUS? Why couldn't you help elevate women's athletics, NFL? Why you gotta be like that? I still love you, tho...I can't help myself. (Now the Divas are part of the IWFL, or Independent Women's Football League.) Anyway. The Divas are an incredibly hard-working, dedicated group of women who practice their asses off, play their asses off, and don't get paid a dime to do it. They do it because they. LOVE. football. Period. Their season is Spring/Summer, and their home games are at the great venue of the PG Sports and Learning Complex, directly in the shadow of FedEx Field. General admin tickets are a complete steal at $12, while military, police, fire, and EMS, as well as seniors and children, receive nice discounts. You can buy your tickets online or at the gate. For $20 you can also purchase VIP tickets which get you 50-yard-line seating in bleachers with backs on the seats, a program, and WAITER service! C'mon, that's cool. Concessions (burgers, fried fish, fries etc) are supplied by a lively and friendly family-run vendor, and beer, wine, and mixed drinks are sold at a separate concession stand. Rita's usually sets up shop, too, y'all! Other than the food and beverage vendors, all the games are completely staffed by volunteers, from the chain gang, to the merchandise vendors, to the ticket booth. They're mostly good friends and family of players, but some are just die-hard Divas fans. In fact, most of the coaches, team doctors, and trainers are all volunteer as well. Husband and I have been selling tickets at the gate for the past four seasons. Games are so much fun. I love seeing little kids come through the gate to their first game screaming, with their eyes bugging out of their heads, "Those are GIIIRRRRLS playing?!?!?" Yeah, they sure are, and they're GOOD. They put that other burgundy-and-gold DC football team (who shall remain nameless) to shame. Last year they went to the IWFL Superbowl in Austin, TX, and lost a heart-breaking game but played like champs anyway. They were world champs in 2006, tho! Please come out and support a wonderful team of women who are passionate about what they do. Bring your kids, your friends, make some noise, drink a beer, storm the field afterwards and meet some players. They love their fans. A lot.

September 21st 2025…read more This place is so disorganized and disappointing. My father called ahead of time since him and I are both disabled (we both have handicap placards and my father has a permanent disabled license plate) He finally got ahold of someone and they said if we want handicap parking up close get the gold parking pass. I paid 200 dollars for parking. Yes, 200. Parking up close is VERY important to me.. Nobody was helpful in guiding us to the lot we paid 200 dollars for. Also, they told us when we got there there's no handicap places, we just have to go and sit on a blue bench and call a number for a golf cart to pick us up. I called the number 3 times and somebody did answer. They were nice but not helpful. We ended up having to give up and walk. No workers were helpful, and when we would try to flag down other workers on golf carts they would not stop for us. They did not even look at us The stadium is very outdated. It looks extremely industrial and not welcoming Very crowded Lines were long There definitely was not enough bathrooms or food areas to keep up with all the people it can hold However, I did enjoy the seats we had. I liked the view. And the field looks great. I will say, the bathrooms for the MOST part were clean for over 50 thousand people being there. I did see a toilet overflowing onto the ground though. But workers were taking care of it This stadium needs a huge update. Do not waste 200 on up close parking. It wasn't even that up close and nobody came and picked us up despite us calling and waiting for 43 minutes (the game had already started while we were waiting) Again, I do have to hand it to the woman on the phone who kept answering. It wasn't her fault and at least she answered. So, if you are disabled and can't walk far, plan accordingly Every stadium is different So always check their bag rules. I did have to use a small clear bag Sadly, this stadium is probably one of the worst I've been to P.S- if you google worst NFL stadiums, this one comes up lol. So I'm not the only one complaining
