First of all, I just have to say, I LOVE Rochester, NY. I used to live here, and it's always a…read morepleasure to come back for visits. People are just so friendly here!
Dirty Laundry Brighton fits right in -- it is, by far, the nicest, friendliest laundromat I've ever visited! I've owned my home and laundry machines for many years now, so it's been quite some time since I needed to avail myself of a laundromat. A lot has changed since I last did so, and Dirty Laundry Brighton is a far cry from the big wheezy, unreliable machines, pocketfuls of quarters, watch-where-you-sit cleanliness and surly patrons (big city...) that I recalled. I walked in to smart rows of modern washers and dryers, a bright, cheery, air-conditioned atmosphere and quiet, friendly fellow patrons. I must have looked fairly out of place, because a sweet, motherly attendant quickly came over to offer me a hand. She helped me choose appropriately sized washing machines, showed me how the stored-value card system worked (no dealing with pocket change here, and don't worry, the card dispenser takes cash) and got me up and washing in no time.
The laundromat wasn't busy, as it was early afternoon on a Friday, so there were plenty of places to sit and work on my laptop while I waited for my machines to finish. Yes, there is free wi-fi. No complimentary coffee (that was just about the only thing missing, and that would've been another first in a laundromat if there had been any, at least for me), but there's a snack machine if you get the munchies, and a nice little bistro with indoor and outdoor seating next door if you're really hungry. Everything was clean as a whistle, including the floor.
Only two very minor quibbles -- so minor that I'm not docking any stars for them. One is that the only detergents available in the vending machine have fragrances, so those with allergies should remember to bring your own detergent. (But if you forget, there's a Dollar General next door where you can buy some, and a Tops supermarket that has even more.) The other is that the stored value card vending machine doesn't make change, so all you have is a $20, then that's what's going on your stored value card. But that's OK, because the card is yours to keep, and unless you're just passing through, as I was, you'll be able to use the balance during your next visit.
Most importantly, my laundry was nice and clean and ready to fold in about 50 minutes.
I don't know when I'll be back in town and in need of a laundromat, but next time that happens, I'm coming right back here.
