Sometimes I get sad when my desire to stay in shape chides me to say no to specialty sushi--you know, the kind that has mixed things in it other than raw fish, say unagi and tempura, stuff like that. Party sushi. The sushi that knows how to party. Anyway.
Suddenly, the Wasabi Warriors came and vanquished my No-Party-Sushi-Sadness!! With their mighty swords!!!
Actually no, they vanquished it with their healthy, homegrown and organic special sushi, which you can buy per roll or as a set! Their sushi tastes really fresh, the combinations are interesting and flavorful. You can opt to have black or brown rice in your sushi for that extra punch of health, which I definitely went for! Their miso soup is plentiful and delicious, too.
My personal favorites are the pan-seared salmon roll and the black rice roll with raw salmon and avocado. I put a little wasabi mayo on the sushi, then dip it in soy sauce. It was yuuuummy. Other sushi ingredients that I missed out on but would have loved to try indluce teriyaki chicken, pork katsu and PEKING DUCK!! They also have rice bowls and completely vegetarian meal options, as well as Inari sushi with customizeable stuffing. I'm definitely coming back for those.
I adore that the restaurant is dedicated to sustainability. All ingredients are sourced locally, which allows local farmers' businesses to grow. They also ensure that whatever is leftover from the day goes to charity, or to compost to be used as fertilizer, allowing them to generate zero food waste while also helping either others, or the environment!!
Other major pluses include a sparkly clean interior, a small kitchen that is also just as sparkly clean, and a self-service area where you can get water, soy sauce cups, and utensils. Every table has soy sauce and squeeze bottles of 2 sauces. One was wasabi mayo, and I wasn't able to catch the other one. I also love that the restaurant has in-store lore about the warriors training and searching for their long lost sister. It makes my geek senses happy.
One minus is the wooden tables are so wide, if you're sitting with people it's a little hard to share if you're sitting across each other. (But then maybe that's because I'm tiny.) read more
