They used to be on the North Shore of O'ahu, but is now located at the frontyard of the Atkinson YMCA. There's shared outdoor dining tables and chairs for you and your dining companions! Service is very friendly and efficient. I was offered a bag for my plate - maybe the kind, observant worker saw that I was juggling the utensils, napkin, and other things. I ordered the shrimp taco plate... it came with two tacos. The shrimp were lightly battered. The veggies were fresh and the tacos had two flour tortillas each. But the aunty hasn't seem to appear too happy nor friendly with me asking for that so I haven't really look forward to buy it too much now when their food truck comes. :( I would see her laughing and being nice to other customers. Makes me nervous now when I buy from her. You know how after a long morning of work, you look forward the whole week, and just wanna enjoy the food you really like? But then as the paying customer, you also feel nervous for making a reasonable request that seems to piss the owner off? Huge Bummer. Maybe it's just me. There's always an uncle working quietly in the background and I truly appreciate him making effort to separate it for me. Maybe they can charge extra for requests like that? Using Yelp's Mobile Food Trucks search will identify them but you need to use another app to actually find out where they are. I ran across them on a weekend in my neighborhood and stopped by. The food is a fusion of Peruvian and Laotian by husband-wife team, Juan Ching and Kim Thepsenavong. There is a long history of Japanese cuisine fusing with Peruvian - it's called Nikkei. But other Asian cuisines, especially Southeast Asian, also blend seamlessly with Peruvian staples. Think about the heavy use of pepper and spice in Laotian cuisine. You've been in restaurants where the heat scale is hot, Thai hot, and Laotian hot. Peppers were only introduced into Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Peru is one of the recognized birthplaces of peppers, with over 300 varieties and a 7,500 year history of cultivation. Peruvian Laotian fusion works when you do it right. I had a beef anticuchos skewers plate with Laotian accompaniments. The anticuchos had a nice smokey sweet dark color from aji panca paste. The rice was Laotian, with black and white grains of sticky rice. There was pickled Laotian som pak, a vinegar marinated mustard cabbage. A fine blended salsa-like jeow mak len, full of charred tomato smokiness, savory paedek fish sauce, garlic, shallot, bird's eye chiles, and lime, was terrific on top of the marinated beef. I hope I run into Khao and Papas again one day so I can try their grilled chicken. Until then, I have the memory of a fine take-out plate of Peruvian Laotian fusion comfort food.

That's what I do love about this discovery at Makana Mkt at Ka Makana Ali'i where they have it twice a week and this Sunday from 11a-3p I found this cute little card and it was Aloha Poke Bar which is obvious is a mobile cart which is absolutely cute and does exactly that where the menu describes the offerings for the day which was Classic, Tornado and what I got is Volcano their version of the spicy ahi. Bowls come in two sizes and though my thoughts was large though I got the small which is just $13 and all bowls comes with white rice topped with the poke of your choice and it doesn't end there you get unlimited toppings and I believe there was six types to which I got the pickled red onions and crispy onions (I later realized they were both onions lol!) there was also ocean salad, pickled cucumbers, furikake. The gentleman asked if I wanted inamona and spicy sauce...uuuhh yes! Poke is obviously premade and the list of the ingredients are all in as well as my Volcano which I though for me personally wasn't spicy enough was made with mayo, sriracha chili sauce, sesame oil, and green onions and thankfully it didn't have much green onions which I don't like but hey it adds the flavor. Rice cooked just right and the toppings complimented it all to my happy belly and was a pleasant find on this gloomy rainy day as the service was nice and friendly which brought the vibe to another level at this cute little cart. No sooner had they parked before a line started forming. Since we already had our bentos, we had to wait for another weekend to see what the buzz was about. Lucky for us, they are regularly there on Saturdays (except if they have a catering gig). So we confirmed their location on Insta, packed up our pup and picnic blanket, and joined the line for some street tacos. I love when a place does one thing and does it mind-blowingly well. That's what you can expect from Dos Jefes--tacos that will blow your mind and your taste buds! Hubby ordered the surf and turf birria taco. Juicy shredded beef, succulent shrimp, and crispy cheese sandwiched between a warm, grilled tortilla. Served with a rich dipping sauce--because it is a birria, after all. You get two per order and it was more than enough to satisfy the hubby's appetite. I don't eat meat, so the cauliflower tacos called my name. Since I've had them, they call me in my sleep sometimes beckoning me back to their bright, savory goodness. Seriously, this taco hits ALL the notes in texture and taste. I do eat seafood, so I also tried a shrimp taco with the cauliflower taco sauce because I don't do dairy. I'm a complicated eater, I know. But, Dos Jefes makes each taco to order, so they can adjust to dietary preferences. And since they are making tacos to order, don't expect fast food. This is NOT that restaurant with a bell on it! Another thing was that their truck (with California plates) was so cool!! The side slid up to expose the counter, an area for iced drinks and big flat screens displaying a very updated twitter and Instagram feed! I felt so instafamous!! The line was long, as most food lines are at Honolulu night market, but it moved rather quickly. The workers were nice and efficient. Although the menu was relatively small, I thought there were some great ideas. Banh mi sweet bread sandwich with a side of pickled daikon? Sign me up for one of those!! For $7 it was pretty good. The meat patties reminded me of thai fish cake for some reason, but it wasn't a bad thing. Will I be back? Ehhhh, maybe. I'd like to try some of the other food trucks more and it definitely reminded me that I need to go back to the KCC dining room for lunch sometime.

I came across this during the Honolulu night market and was drawn in by memories of how delicious King's Hawaiian sweetbread is. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes in line, and another 15 minutes for food, and I have no regrets. The banh mi sliders ($7) were very fresh and I loved the tartness from the lime, the crunch of the carrots, and the juiciness of the crab meat sliders. Even better was the Portuguese bean soup ($6). I still am not 100% sure what they put in it but the mellowness of the mushrooms complemented with whatever flavoring they used tasted amazing. The grilled sweetbread was buttery and perfect for the stew. Actually, scratch what I said earlier - my only regret is not ordering another bean stew!
