Now the previous evening, my husband contacted a large local competitor to check our HVAC system. Technician from local competitor came out and looked out HVAC system, didn't test any components and stated "our compressor was locked & leaking refrigerant and quoted my husband $6k to replace it or we can purchase a brand new HVAC system for $25k!!!" (NOT TRUE!!!). The tech even left our outside power switch unplugged so we couldn't test the system!! SMH!!! We won't contact them for any service ever again nor recommend them to any neighbors, friends and family!!! Joe K, Service Technician at HVAC Direct Heating & Cooling contacted my husband within 20 minutes of him contacting the office the next business day and scheduled a visit that evening. He came out to the house, checked the compressor and quickly diagnosed the capacitor as the problem & replaced it. And Joe K. even showed my husband how he diagnosed the capacitor as the issue NOT the compressor leaking refrigerant as stated by local competitor!! No refrigerant leaking at all!! Compressor in good condition!! In addition, Joe K., checked the wiring, fan, all associated parts and cleaned our a/c unit. No issues at all!! Just some cleaning needed!!! HVAC in excellent working condition AGAIN!!! In addition, he checked our furnace, cleaned some our internal components and showed my husband some DIY things to do to maintain our HVAC system throughout the year!! Amazing work & Professionalism by Joe K!!!! I returned home from business travel to a COOL & COMFORTABLE HOUSE!!! ALL Work completed in an HOUR!!! (less time than the large local competitor spending 2 1/2 hours trying to sell my husband a new HVAC system)!! Joe K. was amazing, excellent communicator, knowledgeable and very professional!! Highly recommend HVAC Direct Heating and Cooling!! Great Pricing for Service Plans & Parts, Excellent Technicians!! You can't go wrong with Joe K. & Scott at HVAC Direct Heating & Cooling!! 5 Stars*****!!!

Walter…read moreresponded to late night Friday request for service and setup time for system checkout Saturday afternoon. Since I was the only one home this weekend I just slept with a fan. In morning I did some online research to see if I could fix it myself sooner. I believe I could have fixed it (I'm pretty handy and have these kinds of tools already) IF I could have gotten my hands on the part I needed for $12 from Home Depot or similar. Amazon delivery was a day or two away. Got a call to say he'd be here in 20 minutes, so I tabled that thought. Walter came and showed me my air filter was dirtier than I expected, so I replaced that on the spot. He then replaced the exact part I was going to (so I was sad I didn't just do it myself, but again it would have been 24-48 hours later to get my hands on it). The compressor should have just kicked in after that but evidently there was a loose electrical connection, which he troubleshot and fixed quickly. Everything fired up and he checked the Freon level, which he said was fine. Cooling is working now as it should be. Walter told me to keep an eye on it and let him know if any other issues come up, as compressor could be damaged from running broken before the fix. Price was reasonable, though not anywhere near what it would have cost for me to fix it myself. But considering it was a Saturday morning (and I started looking for repairs on Friday night) for "emergency service" it was the same as what a competitor was quoting me for service "sometime" on Monday (non-emergency service). So, by this standard, which I suppose most homeowners would use, I judge it to be pretty reasonable. Walter was professional, friendly, and courteous. Only other thing to mention is paying with a credit card is 4% more. So I paid him with a check.

His pricing ended up being more competitive than several of the larger companies I received quotes from, and Ricardo did a better job at answering my questions and explaining the thought process behind his recommendations. This man will hustle and break his back to earn your business and build a relationship with his customers. He takes pride in his work. I cannot recommend this place enough. On a Friday afternoon, I reached out to ~5-7 vendors to assess a broken HVAC in a DC condo. Ricardo was able to come out IMMEDIATELY at 8PM on a Friday night. He did a quick dusting of the unit which hadn't been serviced in a while and even went to the roof as a part of his diagnosis. After sticking around for a couple hours trying to find the source of the problem, I was mentally preparing myself to pay a diagnosis and service fee, but there was no such thing. What signaled to me Ricardo was top notch was the fact that this man lives in Baltimore, easily a 50-minute commute from where I was in DC. He didn't leave until I was satisfied with his work until 930PM on a FRIDAY night. This type of service is difficult if not impossible to find. Ricardo patiently explained what the problem was, why I wouldn't have working AC after he would leave, and what my options were. He was very transparent with pricing, sent over a couple of quotes, and laid out what install schedules would look like depending on which manufacturer I went with. He and his team came in Tuesday and the install lasted about 7 hours. Fully working AC in less than 2 business days at a reasonable and competitive price. You cannot beat that.

So while I have no foundation to comment upon pricing (since eventually BGE is paying for their services), I can and will comment about how impressed I am with T&D's master plumber who followed in the wake of Northern Pipeline's work to replace the gas line to my home. I hadn't taken the time and don't have the technical background to realize that re-piping doesn't end with a new pipe (it looked more like a tube to me), but rather the job is really just beginning when Northern Pipeline has done their own miracle in ensuring that our landscaping wouldn't be harmed. The T&D professional had about a four-hour job, going well past normal business hours, to do in replacing the gas meter and all the strange-looking widgets that service the meter, making sure that no gas is leaking (he was incredibly attentive to that function), getting the venting working right, and re-lighting the gas boiler, the water heater, the gas range, and the standby electrical generator and making sure everything was back in business again. This man was incredibly patient, both with me and with Northern Pipeline, and there was no way he was going to let my wife be without the use of our gas range in preparing food for our Sabbath. I have kind words for how much I appreciate Northern Pipeline for saving our shrubbery, but the real hero of the day was the plumber from T&D (and of course whoever at Northern Pipeline selected T&D to do the inside-the-house part of the project).
