I am 66 and until recently, I I had NEVER HAD A CAVITY. Drs. Rosenwein and Warshaw turn out to have committed serious negligence which is costing me two permanent molars and the outbofnpocket expense of implants.
1. They decided to only do xrays every three years even though interim xrays are paid through my insurance.
2. They knew that I have an ongoing dry mouth condition due to medication and therefore needed more frequent screening.
3. Even while taking xrays only every 3 years, they failed to catch massive decay which was visible between two molars on a 2021 exray, and then waited till last September, at which point both teeth were completely destroyed. They had 5 interim appointments, and failed to do xrays to check.
4. I have had a gum infection and massive cavity forming since 2017 in my last molar which they never visialized, cleaned or even included in their 3 year xrays. That tooth was extracted yesterday and there is even a leukoplakia (a precancerous lesion on my cheek from the tooth rubbing for years which I may need to have biopsied. They NEVER looked carefully at the back of that tooth and it was cit off of all their xrays.
5. Due to the known dry mouth condition, I should have been having fluoride treatments because of incresed risk of tooth decay, despite my life history of NEVER HAVING HAD A CAVITY.
6. Dr. Warshaw sent me to a surgeon for an extraction of only ONE of the two horribly decayed teeth, completely ignoring the other one. That one had a massive cavity and black decay which I could see with a flashlight. It also had a chronic gum infection simce 2017.
All in all, while I have consulted with several general dentists and the absolutely brilliant surgeon, Dr. Chionchio, all peers and fellow peofessionals are shocked and frankly appalled and scratching their heads. There has been neither apology nor explanation. I have no recourse because all the money I'm paying to rebuild my mouth is going to the surgeon, and the Peer Review process is only about money, not harm due to negligence or incompetence. A liability lawyer to me they didnt do enough damage to make it worthwhile to go to court, and I can't use Small Claims because I would need to hire an experr witness.
I plan to report all of this to the New York State Education Department, but that's all I can do. After a decade, it would have been decent for them to acknowledge the harm they have caused. At least. I strongly recommend to my fellow patients that you reconsider where you get your care.
Sincerely, a former patient who was seruously harmed by lazy negligence. read more
