Best gym on the island! Great view of the campus while working. Sits at the heart of campus so I'm able to get to class, grab a bite to eat, and workout without leaving campus.

Equipment at the gym is great. They are missing a few machines here and there but over all great variety and good condition. Updating my review because some of the rules enforced at this gym are in my opinion unnecessary. I understand rules are there for safety and to preserve the condition of equipment but some of the rules are unjustified. One of the rules is that you can't perform lounges on the track. There are three lanes around the track one for walking, one for jogging, and one for running. There is a sign posted to direct the flow of movement depending on which day of the week It is. I was told that lounges were not allowed on the track anywhere even in the walking lane. When I was approached about doing lounges there was probably only one other person on the track. I honestly don't see how doing lounges damages the track any more than sprinting or jogging would or is really a safety hazard unless there is a high volume of runners using the track. In that case there should be rules specifically stating no lounges during high volume usage. Another rules is that in order to use the platform lever attached to the rack you have to actually be positioned on the rack. For one, the level is bolted onto the side of the rack making it awkward to have to rotate it. Secondly it prevents others from using the rack platform to its full capacity since most people use the entire platform for deadlifts or squats. I wasn't dropping the bar with weights on the ground, or blocking anyone from using any other equipment off to the side. There are even rules stating to not drop the weights which is why I was being extra careful in setting it down. Once again I understand rules are there for safety purposes and to keep the equipment in quality condition but i don't think some of the rules are necessary. I have never been to a gym where exercises and use of equipment was under such strict regulation. Lastly, if the staff is there to regulate and enforce the rules then they should at least be able to justify why the rule is being enforced. Every time a staff member has come up to me they don't introduce themselves or tell me who they are. Why should I trust a random person who doesn't state their name or position of authority? I have often asked some staff members why a rule is enforced and they usually say " I don't know, I just know this is the rule." It's difficult for anyone to have respect for an individual that provides this type of response.

It's a beautiful facility and I like that it's in campus center. I use it almost daily, and the staff and equipment are generally great. It's a nice environment to workout in. I enjoy it a lot more than my old gym -- 24 Hr Fitness. Hours: On weekends, and holidays, it's typically 9AM - 5:30PM On weekdays, it's 5:30 AM - 10:30 PM Cardio: The upstairs has an indoor track, but it's only 1/13 of a mile each lap, so I haven't tried it yet. There are a bunch of cardio machines: ellipticals, treadmills, treadclimbers, hand bike, rope-pulling, recumbent bikes, rowing machine, wattbikes, stationary bikes, stairmasters... I like that many of the machines face the large glass walls, so you have a view of the campus outside. Very nice. Weights: There are a lot of different machines and weight setups. I am not a hardcore lifter, but do like some of the machines, the dumbbells, and the barbells. Other: There are stretching cages, a climbing wall which I've never seen in working condition since February (when I joined). There's a basketball / volleyball court area where intramural sports seems to happen quite a bit. There's a room on the ground floor across the basketball court with all kinds of equipment such as TRX straps, and some other machines I'm not familiar with. Amenities: There are lockers with digital combination locks for general users of the gym. The locker room has lockers, but I am pretty sure I will never get one since I was #121 when I put my name on the wait-list. The people who rent lockers can also get laundry and towel service. Lucky ducks! You can "rent" some equipment as well. I say "rent" but it's actually free with membership to take out jump ropes, cables, foam rollers, mats, etc. I forgot my towel once, and they let me borrow one free, saying you have three times you can borrow one at no charge. Classes: There are classes throughout the week such as pilates, spin classes, body bootcamp, boxing, etc. There are also outdoor activity classes but I haven't tried any of those yet. They had surfing on there, and hiking... they are off-campus events.

In all seriousness, the rec center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa isn't so bad after all. The facility is equipped with a handful a treadmills, weighted machines and other goods such as power plates (these machines work wonders.) Likewise, with a large facility, accommodations are available such as workout mats, foam rollers and gadgets you'll typically find at your physical therapist office. They have a handful of workers in bright highlighter shirts who are really friendly and helpful, so go ask them all the questions your heart desire. New to be gym? They'll gladly take you around for a tour. Another highlight about the rec center are the weekly classes that they hold for both Manoa students and members! From Zumba to boxing and freestyle exercising, there are a ton of classes suited to favor. Nevertheless, It does get busy but you'll get a rhythm as to when and what time you would like to work out.

What do I want to do on my birthday? Let's go take a walk in the park!…read more With the hustle and bustle of the holiday weekend and events here and there, I wanted somewhere less crowded and quiet. Foster Botanical Garden came to mind. I haven't been here for a very long time! The entrance is located along Vineyard Blvd. - westbound, right after the Kuan Yin Temple. There's plenty of free parking. Out of all the City and County botanical gardens, this is the only one with admission, but it's well worth the price - $5 for adults, $3 for Hawai'i Residents, $1 Children 6-12 (so, 13+ are adults?), and free for kids 5 and under. There is a free docent-led 90-minute tour at 10:30am - every Monday and Wednesday to Saturday - anyone can join. Walk-ins okay if there's space, or make reservations via email or phone. Before heading in, you can grab a map and a bird checklist. The garden itself is very well kept and quite spacious. There are two restrooms - one on the left and another on the right. They were quite clean! All areas, trees, and plants are clearly marked. Be on the lookout for the "exceptional trees" such as the Baobab, which looks like elephant legs; Cannonball Tree, Kapok, and etc. The Orchid Collection in the greenhouse has a nice variety with the infamous Corpse Flower. Overall, a very nice, well-maintained place to visit and worth the admission fee. Even though you're in town, next to the freeway and busy streets around, you still feel a sense of relaxation and calm while connecting with nature and admiring the vast collection of trees and plants. I wouldn't mind getting the annual pass for $25 just to take my lunch here!

From the moment you arrive, you are treated with the utmost respect. People living with dementia really need their self-esteem because there's part of them that realizes that he can't remember things that just happened. both my mother-in-law and my uncle were very hesitant to go to a daycare. I drop them off at around 9 AM and pick them up just after lunch. I figured that it would be too long of a day to keep from eight hours. Well, I was wrong. They both did not want to leave. They quickly made friends and clearly did not want to leave at all. This is a Friday afternoon. On Saturday my mother-in-law called me asking when am I picking her up to take her to day care. LOL. Besides activities, like current events, sing-along, seating exercise, And special games like balloon volleyball, hangman, Wii golf, and Wii bowling. they also played blackjack and do puzzles. But the best thing about Live Well at Iwilei is hands down the food! do you see this center is run by Kahala Nui. The chef is amazing. The clients dying on some fantastic food. During special holidays like this past Chinese new year, the clients get to partake in the lion dance then eat scrumptious Chinese food like dim sum, fried noodles, pork hash, and rice cake. The same goes for Obon season. They have sushi, noodles, more Chico chicken and many more. I would highly recommend this place for your loved ones. If you were looking for just a half a day or a full day of day care give them a call. Lynn Wong the manager there will make you feel right at home and will put your love ones at ease.
