    Cool finishers medal!
    Don D.

The FUNNEST race that I have ever been to. I know a lot of people who ran the race but I actually ran it by myself. I was in the very first heat. 8:30 wave. I had heard of the Warrior Dash before and watched videos of it online, so when the time came that they would be in Hawaii, I signed up! I really just wanted to sign up and get the cool Warrior Helmet, everything else was the icing on the cake. Where else can you go where you race with hundreds of people through dirty water, jump over a couple of fire pits, climb over walls, slide down a firefighter pole, climb up a rope ladder, or crawl through mud under barbed wire? Its 3 miles, and the first mile and a half was boring, but once the obstacles started, they were one after the other. Intimidating at first, but once youre there, it wasnt so hard. With the race, you get a shirt, you get a cool warrior helmet, one beer, a cool medal, and you can purchase a lot of food too! Not only that, you also have an awesome time doing it! For all of you that went, see you again next year! Next year will be bigger and better!

$35 to become a warrior and run around an obstacle course in the mud, get a t-shirt, a beer, a warrior hat and have a kick ass time! HELL YAH! I did luck out and got a groupon 50% off the entry fee (it was $70 by that time), a few months before the race. If you do decide to do it next year, buy your ticket early because the price will just go up. The earliest heat is 8 or 8:30am. Since I had bought my ticket late, my heat was 3:30. I got a ride early and went with my friends who were running at 11:00. The good news is that they don't care what time you run or how many times you run as long as you are registered so I got to run in the same heat as my friends. The course wasn't very shaded so It got hot, especially in the running sections. The obstacles weren't too tricky. I think the hardest thing for me was turning around at the top of the tall obstacles so I could climb down with my butt facing out. If you do decide to do the race next year, don't rush on the tall obstacles. Two people broke their legs, and I saw another person in an arm cast (although I'm not sure how he got hurt). There were people running, walking, and jogging the course so just go at your own pace. Its meant to be more of a fun race where its not necessarily focused on getting the best time but just to have a good time and get MUDDY! We didn't stay till the end but we tailgated outside after the race and drank and ate food we brought. That was one of the cool things about the event, you can totally tailgate and party before/after the race and re-enter/exit as many times as you want. I didn't train for the race and I was fineee so don't feel the pressure to follow their "training regiment" online. Just make sure you don't eat something heavy before the race, you can eat as many turkey legs ($8) after the race. YELP 365: 119/365

As the years went by, the traffic and parking situation became a nightmare for all. After parking your vehicle across the road, you start the video game Frogger in trying to navigate and dodge passing cars to cross the road. Coming this year with another 1st timer, we found a dedicated spot to park ((https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=vvIKqY2lR0itJ69ZUlXhJA).) where even the sanctuary volunteers leave their vehicles. The best part is that they installed a marked crosswalk (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=N7ZkG2n7jMLelhcy1vzRdQ) for people to cross in a more safe manner; do still exercise caution in crossing the Kam Highway. On the Tuesday early afternoon we went, the waters were rough with 30 to 40 ft waves. As a result, the beach was taped off as a safety measure. I walked to the primary beach section were the sanctuary volunteers monitored the situation to make sure visitors do not bother the wildlife here. As I spoke with a volunteer originally from St. Louis, she pointed out a seal (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=U6UBzjIUZhr2lFKcMbobiA) that made it's way to the beach to find a resting spot. As my friend and I walked back towards the open area across the parking section, we stared with other visitors towards the break line and saw smaller turtles struggling to make their way in, often catching their bobbing heads out of the water or the outline of their bodies contrasting to the clear waters. None made it to the beach, what little sand space there was, while we were there. The key to seeing the turtles is to check the tide times and trying to come when it is close to high tide. We'll see how things on my next visit, whether we have time or interest to see the turtles.

In January we came by 2x in a week and did not see turtles on the first day but enjoyed the beautiful views. On the second day, we lucked out and got to see a large turtle laying on the beach and then enjoyed the beautoful sunset. There is usually a volunteer at the beach and they are so helpful to answer any questions and protect the turtles. We learned that there are more turtles in the summer there, and that the waves wash away the sand in the winter and then return the sand in the summer.

There are still certain restrictions to follow for beach goers but to be able to see the Pacific Ocean here at Mokuleia Beach was a blessing. It was a welcome escape from being what seemed like a mini house arrest for the past month and a half. A perfect day- the weather, the deepest hues of the ocean and the waves unfurling white water breaking onto the shoreline was priceless. A magnificent sight to behold. It was the first time we took our fur baby galavanting for her very first holoholo adventure. On the drive we passed horses, tropical flowers and lush greenery. Dillingham airfield held memories of a flight adventure hubs and our daughter went on. We drove as far as Camp Erdman where my family camped during my childhood years and later I went to summer camp and shhh, had my first kiss. We were playing tourists today bringing along with us the leis and balloons that were delivered to our home from our graduating daughter. It was reason to leave the house and celebrate with freedom and a long overdue basking of sunshine and eye candy of the beauty past Waialua. Hubs said as a Jeep pulled up aside of our car: they are laughing at us. No wonder, we had leis on and were taking photos of ourselves and our Fur baby against the backdrop of the beautiful ocean. Yes, pretty comical but they stayed in their vehicle til we took a few snap shots. What a day to celebrate!!! Congrats to all the 2020 grads who had or will be having virtual graduations. The trail was very easy to find, just search for the trail on google maps and the map will lead you to the parking lot next to Dillingham Airfield (look for "West Gate). After parking, head towards the mountain to get to the trailhead. It took us 1 1/2 hours to the covered picnic table, mostly because we were pausing for water breaks and photos with the kids. Tips: wear plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and bring LOTS of water. It gets hot!

Nice little trail on the north shore…read more You park at the dillingham airport and the trailhead is across the street. Not hard to find. The first half mile is shaded switchbacks. The mile after that is exposed. It sort of reminded me of hikes in SoCal. The gradient isn't too bad because of the switchbacks but you are going up about 1000' in like 1.5 miles. So the climbing can feel a bit relentless. No scrambling over rocks and other obstacles like some other Oahu hikes. I thought it was fairly easy. I think anyone in decent shape won't have any issues. For those who are just beginning your fitness journey, this would probably be a good workout. The trail is easy to follow. Very little chance of you getting lost (at least to the picnic table which was my turn around point). It's very rocky but walking/hiking isn't an issue. Trail Runners: I saw some other trail runners but this wouldn't be my first choice trail on the north shore. The switch backs don't go on long enough to get any sort of rhythm after the half mile point. And while I wouldn't say this is the most technical of runs, you definitely have to pay attention. I went super slow on the decent for my first time. I may go back and go past the picnic table to see what's up there but I'd say skip this if you're a runner. Hikers will like it I think. And it wasn't too crowded. I saw a handful of people on my run. The views are ok. There are definitely much more scenic views on Oahu but these weren't bad by any means.
