Recently found out that Warren Lee opened a new location in Cupertino closer to me than their original Fremont spot where I went for about 2 years to get orthodontic work done when I was in high school. It's been about 8 years since I last had braces so as you can imagine my retainers are out of whack and way too old. My teeth had slightly shifted (only the top) so I decided to go back to him to get a new set of retainers so I could continue to value my $5000+ spent for orthodontic work. I made an appointment with his wife (who runs the front desk) and came in on a Friday. Despite his friendliness in greeting me and asking me how things have been and treating me like an old friend, I felt like he had an agenda. This agenda became obvious when I explained to him why I was there. I thought that I could just get them to mold another set of clear retainers from my old teeth molds and go from there. However, he immediately sat me in the chair and starting to look at my teeth and told me he wanted to do this this and this before he even clarified whether or not my insurance would cover this work or WHAT exactly he was doing. This annoyed me since the entire 20 minute session while he was in the room, he kept telling me not to worry about it that he will give me what I need for retainers when I kept asking him what it was and he kept changing his story. Finally, I got his wife to come in and talk to me about my options and what they were recommending. It turns out, I didn't need a set for the bottom because my bottom teeth have no shifted, but my top teeth have so instead of a passive retainer, they recommend an active one. This was information I had to pull and pry out of them because they wanted to give me a set of active retainers which would have cost me around $500+ even after insurance. I was very displeased that they essentially tried to work me over. I ended up spending $160 for a top teeth retainer. Went back to pick it up today and again, I felt they were now unfriendly knowing that I didn't spend the ENTIRE amount of money they wanted me to spend so they just fitted me for the retainers and sent me on my way. Dr. Lee was my orthodontist back in middle school when I looked like a frikkin neanderthal. I remember being made fun of for having a severe overbite and not being able to smile with my mouth closed. I honestly didn't know how much braces could change and kind of accepted my fate as a hideous girl. Dr. Lee spent three years seeing me frequently and always exerted a non-judgmental attitude towards my ugly teeth and food particles in my braces HAHA! After having head-gear, 4 teeth pulled, and 3 years of braces, I finally became a presentable looking girl. Fast forward 11 years since I got my braces off, I am now 25 and my teeth are still just as straight as they were the day I had my braces removed. I have been wearing my retainers diligently for the entire span of time and only recently did a small chunk of the plastic break off. Having maintained my perfect smile for 12 years, I didn't want to risk even the slightest shift in my teeth, so I made an appointment with Dr. Lee. He treated me the same way he did 12 years ago and his dental assistant Fey still remembered me :') I swear I almost cried. He works very fast, gives great advice, and really cares about his patients. He even showed me the photo he took of me the first day I walked into his office and I couldn't believe how much my teeth had changed. The thing is, orthopedics is a hard practice. There're high costs, and it's easy to play the blame game, but Dr. Warren Lee makes the process so much less painful and less intimidating, and at the end of the day, he'll give you the best darn smile you could ever had made with your teeth . That being said, Dr. Lee has been my orthodontist for the past eleven years, and I honestly could not have imagined going through the process without him. The one thing I love about is practice is his entire team. From his wife, the kind receptionist to his extremely nice dental assistants, Mimi and Fay, everyone makes the entire painful process so much easier. When I was younger, I definitely remember being absolutely terrified about putting on braces. Would it hurt, would I have to pull out any teeth, etc. Dr. Lee knows his stuff and is incredibly helpful and will choose the most cost efficient and painless method for his patients. He cares about his patients, and that was something that meant a lot to me when I was child. I needed the emotional comfort and support from my practitioner so I knew that this process wouldn't be ridiculously painful. His equipment's top notch and from what I remember hearing from my friends, my experience was definitely more pleasant than their's. I got my braces off four years ago and promised Dr. Lee that I would write a review about him, but only if he put the photo of us that we took on the day I got my braces off on his wall of his clients. I'm not sure if he's done that yet, however, my sister is getting braces now and I was reminded that I owe him a review. I came in with a huge overbite, overcrowded teeth, and unbelievably crooked teeth that I thought would be impossible to fix. Dr. Lee told me that I had to pull out 2 top teeth and 2 bottom teeth and that was the best thing an orthodontist could have ever suggested me to do. Because I pulled out a couple of teeth, my jaw line is so much nicer and my teeth don't look overcrowded anymore. I was never a fan of gum, but somehow when I had braces, I craved gum. I also wanted to eat stuff I wasn't supposed to eat, like hard candy, chips, and drink soda. One day I ate a Cheeto and my wires snapped off. I was so scared to see Dr. Lee. He's very strict and makes sure you take care of your braces. He only does this because he cares and wants your teeth to look the best it can when you remove your braces. Oh, and I would like to add that even though he gets really busy sometimes, he always gets to you in a timely manner. His assistants are super nice too! Dr. Lee's been my orthodontist ever since I went for braces back in 1998 to his Cupertino office (he also has a Fremont one and he alternates days btw them). He does both children and adult orthodontics and he has great bedside manner, follow-up care has been easy (twice in a decade isn't bad), he does excellent work, and the lab he uses does quality work. I've had braces for ~1.5years to the satisfaction of my parents who had issues with my huge bunny gap and my bottom teeth that looked like a drunk sailor's (no offense to drunks or sailors). Several of parents' friends' kids had had good results going to him. Besides, everyone else in 6th grade had retainers so I was happy to join the "in"-crowd. Haha... I was so excited when he said that I needed both top and bottom braces. I think it was a flat rate for the braces work, so all the follow-up adjustments was included. That was good because I was probably one of the worst patients ever. I would eat gum, chewy candies (starbursts!! skittles! taste the rainbow =) ), and hard candy...which was everything one was told NOT to do, and it would cause the metal thingies to pop off my teeth. He would just patiently stick them back on every time. I also hated brushing my teeth. It took one of his horror-teeth-pics-to-scare-kids-into-brushing-pics to make me start brushing. One of the nifty things in his office is a couple sinks where you go to brush your teeth (he has a drawer of new toothbrushes) every time before he takes a look in your mouth. After my teeth neatly lined up like ducks in a row, I was fitted for retainers which I dutifully wore at night (usually...sometimes...often..). I think he must have done a really good job because not only do people comment on my smile all the time, I have also had dentists that have asked me to model my smile for their office books (and if its other dentists, then they must know quality ^^). People also seem to want to tell me about their crappy-orthodontist stories. Follow up work with retainers: Back in ~2001 I managed to pop the wire out of my retainers in the clear translucent pink area and I was really sad. (Seems that retainers don't care to be sat on). He said to come in because if I had simply broken the wire, he would be able to just weld it together. Unfort, it wasn't :P so I needed a new mold/fit. For this one I had it done in the Fremont office. Retainer life was good and well until 2010 when my wisdom teeth started to grow in. So I stopped wearing them. =P And my retainers stopped fitting after a year of not wearing them. (whoopsie) So this month (July 2011), my mom made me go in cuz my bunny teeth gap was somewhat returning and the office ma'am still remembered her ^^. The office ma'am Sophia (I've been in the midwest for too long ^^) asked me why I stopped wearing them. I said they didn't really fit. She asked me why I didn't go in when that happened. ::hides head with shame in sand:: Oh, and as a note for people who haven't been to the Cupertino office in a while, the office has moved. Its no longer off of pacifica/torre, but is further down Torre across from the city hall/library. So, I went in today and the doc remembered me and showed me the pics from the first time I went in. (Aww, cute lil me, and dang, he keeps all his records). He checked out the top and bottom fit. My top mold was alright, so he fixed the wires and they fit perfectly!!! =) [my mom went into a "I told you so" moment. heck, who still has their mom go with them to the dentist. :P ] But unfort, my bottom jaw had shifted/grown/widened/some-dental-thing-I-don't-know-but-which-he-tried-to-explain, so I needed a new mold done. [my mom went into a "my child is an idiot" moment] With my wisdom teeth semi-in, and my habit of chewing hard candies that chipped a molar (and is in pending-life-watching-stage with my normal dentist), he gave me some advice on how my wisdom teeth would affect the rest of my teeth and stuff. He is also making the lower retainer stretch further back in case my poor chipped molar decides to go to the tooth fairy, and I need my wisdom tooth to grow in to replace that molar and the longer lower retainer will prevent the bottom tooth from growing too tall while I wait for the wisdom tooth to come in. (props for you if you actually understood what's going on in my mouth) I appreciate his foresight/care/plan. I had recently finished getting of my braces, and it has been 4 years since I had gotten them. During those years, Dr. Lee has been extremely patient and kind. His professional attitude and calm demeanor led to a fantastic job working with my braces. While at first I was a shy brat who hated the discomfort brought upon me, I now appreciate the improvements Dr. Lee had made using braces, retainers, and metal wires. I now can show off a brilliant aligned smile instead of a bunch of jagged and uneven teeth. I can recommend Dr. Lee to anyone looking for a great orthodontist. His kind assistants and friendly personality makes him fun to work with, and his service is overall helpful and useful. He does have a tendency to chide you about taking care of your teeth; don't worry though, he just really wants to see you with a great smile! read more

We realize that it is necessary to take a long time to fix his problem step by stop. Starting from the beginning, Dr. Lee assures us that he is able to help out. Yes, you will have discomfort when you get braces. Yes, it will hurt when he puts them on. My braces cut into my gum as well, but I simply asked him about it and he gave me some wax that helped immensely. Would refer him to anyone! read more

I wish there was a 0 star option. 15 years ago my mom took me in for a consultation because all the other kids in my class were getting braces. I didn't need braces, but this despicable orthodontist who was probably getting a kickback from my dentist recommended that I get a bicuspid extraction to "clear up space" to straighten out my teeth, which weren't even crooked. The only thing I had was a minor overbite (and in children the upper mandible naturally grows more quickly than the lower jaw). After pulling out my teeth, they put me in headgear to push my upper jaw back, which is an extreme measure for a minor overbite. Fast forward 2 years, I used to have great cheekbones and a pointy chin and after braces my entire lower face was pushed in/recessed. Now my jaw can't open all the way because the entire thing is shoved too far back, leading to me developing a narrower airway than I should have, which will cause breathing problems as I age. I don't look like either of my parents or anyone in my family, and my face is less attractive overall - which is beyond infuriating. His recommendations for braces and headgear for a child with no teeth problems is gross negligence if not criminal. I honestly don't know how Warren Lee sleeps at night knowing that he is ruining proper facial development in children by taking advantage of their concerned parents. I wish I could sue this quack but the statute of limitations has passed (2 years in the US), but in Canada there is a pending class action lawsuit pending for this very reason. So parents beware!! Please think twice about braces (esp if it involves extractions and headgear) and get a second opinion somewhere else. Your children need you to protect them. Remember if Warren Lee didn't recommend braces for kids who don't need them there goes most of his profits. read more

If 5 stars is a perfect procedure where nothing could possibly go wrong even with the patient being a little negligent, 4 stars being that everything more or less went right except the adjustment failed due to the part of the patient with maybe a few complications during the process, 3 stars being that it was somewhat successful but more or less failed despite following the orthodontist's recommendation -- I would give this orthodontist NEGATIVE stars for adverse health risks and questionable practices legality-wise. A LOT of things with this orthodontist that are very questionable, given my experiences with him:: -Your records will NOT be kept. Once your procedure is complete and enough time has passed for this Orthodontist to not be required to keep the documents by law -- he will throw them out. This is NOT a proper practice that someone in the medical field should have. -They will try to weasel their way out of checking things. I went in within 7 years of my last appointment requesting to have my teeth checked out because they went out of alignment. BY LAW, they were not allowed to throw out the records by that time -- but they told me it was thrown out until I insisted that was illegal. Needless to say, he HAD to go fish them out. And honestly, I don't believe he kept all the documents considering the file looked suspiciously BARE in comparison to when I was still in the middle of the adjustments. -The Orthodontist WILL lie to your face if it is convenient for him. During my procedure, he considered having teeth from the top row AND bottom row pulled in order to "make space for the wisdom teeth to grow" -- which I was against having ANY of the teeth pulled until he came up with a "compromise" to pull only the top row of teeth that I only gave in because my mom was frustrated with how difficult I was being. He denied ever having that type of consideration when I had him check out my teeth years later because they felt overcrowded and "pulled out the file" specifically to claim that never happened. He also told me my teeth weren't overcrowded and suggested I got them straightened out as is -- which a dentist I went to soon after to check told me they did indeed look a little overcrowded. Fast forward a few years at a consultation from another Orthodontist, that Orthodontist told me they were SEVERELY overcrowded and even considered pulling a tooth out to help straighten them. -Do NOT expect to get your records from them. They will question you CONSTANTLY, AND fail to deliver on any promises. They're not required by law to fork them over to you either, so don't expect them to. -Do NOT expect him to care about your well-being -- when I went in with concerns that my teeth were overcrowded and that my jaw as settling a little too far back due to the adjustment, he basically said that it wasn't an issue. Now... fast forward a few years and I wind up with TMJ and needed to go get that checked up with a specialist. Needless to say, while I can't pin the blame 100% on the dental adjustment that he did, and that he had a chance to make some effort to help prevent that, I am almost certain that the botched adjustment played a big role in the development of that condition. If you don't know what TMJ is, just know that it is EXTREMELY difficult, if not impossible, to open or close your jaw to eat. You might even need surgery for it -Additionally, you are apparently not supposed to have teeth pulled unless it is absolutely necessary as it will generally have adverse impact later down the line. The TMJ specialist I consulted wished it were illegal to pull teeth during adjustments since they generally aren't necessary, but was frustrated with how it isn't as long as it is a common practice in the area. So consider that next time if you are going in for an adjustment. Needless to say -- DON'T go here for Orthodontics - if you already are, I would highly advise that you pull out if you can. By the way, all this was only about my SECOND adjustment done by him. My first was in 2nd/3rd grade, which ALSO had quite a few sketchy agreements drafted and made during it, not to mention a few roundabout ways of trying to make some dental adjustments (eg. offering full braces when generally only half braces should be offered at this time since they will do a second adjustment when they are older -- or so I heard from an orthodontist I talked about my issue with who clearly didn't believe me - you KNOW they're succeeding well when another professional doesn't believe what you say because it sounds like you're saying BS when you aren't) And like several other people here -- my reason for making a Yelp account was also to add my review to the growing pile of negative ones that this business has earned. I am glad that the review from someone I knew in High School that was written out of obligation appears to have disappeared, since it was somewhat sarcastically written as a joke to say that it was done. read more

My word of advice is to stay away. I went to get a consult for braces because a friend of a friend highly recommended Dr. Lee. When Dr. Lee asked me if I had any concerns, I told him no because my teeth are fairly straight and I just wanted to see what work would be needed if any to make it perfectly straight. Dr. Lee told me I had a major problem and needed braces and also minor surgery to implant a screw into my jaw bone because my bite was off. I told him I didn't have any pain or noises when I bite down and it was strictly for cosmetic reasons. In any case, he told me that I had a serious bite issue and needed place the screw in my jaw bone to correct the problem. In the meantime, he keeps assuring me that he is not concerned about money and not out to make money. Of course if you truly care about your patient's well being, it should show from your bedside manner and not from you repeating it over and over. Who are you trying to convince? Today I went to a second consult and the orthodontist advised me that my teeth are cosmetically nearly perfect. My bite is a little off but simple braces and rubber bands would be sufficient to correct the problem. No surgery and no extractions needed at all. I'm taking my money elsewhere since I truly care about my well being and my dental health. No thank you Dr. Lee, I don't feel like being a lab rat and fattening up your wallet. read more

Because I go out of the bay area for school, I only return to the bay area at appropriate times for my orthodontist appointments. I try to make the Fremont ones, but sometimes my schedule allows me to go into the Cupertino area. He's a very knowledgeable orthodontist, that's for sure, but he's a total twat. There are other educated orthodontists out there, so do not go to this one. Be sure to not catch him when he's in a bad mood. He yanks out your braces and pressures them in at full force without any consideration at how uncomfortable those feel. I could see the embarrassment on the assistant's face when she saw what was happening to me, and she apologized in the doctor's stead. Also, he's nice at first when you're still paying for the visits. When you've paid it in full, but your procedure is still not completed, he completely ignores you, does a shitty job, and is complete dick. In full: go to another one. Every orthodontist is qualified to do a good job, and this one shouldn't be. Go to this one if you don't mind your ortho being a complete knob. And I've been a very good patient. I brush my teeth before entering, and I've always received compliments on the lack of plaque in my teeth. Even being in his good graces, he sucks. read more

I thought warren lee and his staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating. I had warren for the 2 year process and never had any issues with him not being professional. Any complaints of discomfort were quickly addressed. And like Jon T, I did get complaint at the beginning of the process that I wasn't brushing well and asked warren to show me. After that, he never complained and my regular dentist even complimented on how clean my teeth were every time I went in for a check up. Overall experience was great. I no longer look like Bubba and my teeth had straightened with all the gaps closed. I would recommend him to others. read more

Dr. Lee has been my orthodontist for years. He did my braces when I was a child but I stopped getting treatment when my parent's dental insurance ran out. About 2 years ago I decided to get braces again as an adult and he helped me through the process doing a superb job from dealing with my questions and complaints to accommodating for my treatment when I decided to switch from the braces route to getting orthognathic surgery. Dr. Lee has a good sense of humor and is probably one of your best bets if you want to get braces in the South Bay. He is highly skilled and his network of dentists he works with and recommends are all equally distinguished. read more

I received consultation from 4 Orthodontists and decided to go with Dr Warren. My considerations are price and feasibility. Dr. Lee offered reasonable pricing and went through the treatment plan with me. He was straight forwards and laid out what can or cannot be done. His office is clean and properly decorated. His staff, Sophie, Mimi and Fay are extremely nice people. It's easy to make appointments with Dr Lee and Sophie always tries to be flexible for me. Mimi and Fay are experienced and considerate. They know what can be hurting and always alerts me what next step is so I never felt surprised about what's happening today. My treatment was done a month ago. I'm very happy with the results. I think my investment in time and money is worthy. I would highly recommend Dr Warren Lee. In fact, I just hope Dr Lee won't retire any time soon; my 5-year-old son may need his help in the fiture. read more

Dr Lee was introduced to us by our dentist because her son used the service provided by Dr Lee, and apparently she liked him. With my own experience of my kids, I would say I am very glad that we went to Dr. Lee. And I would recommend him without any hesitation. Both my kids went through the process with Dr Lee. My younger one's case was more difficult - his gap between upper and lower teeth was over 10mm, and the profile was like he's having no jar. When it's done, he is such a handsome young man, his profile could not be more perfect! The combined time we spent there are about 5 years. At the end, it is like a visit to friend/family whenever the appointment time came. Dr Lee got two office locations, one in Fremont, and the other in Cupertino which are very convenient for most people in the bay area. The Fremont office we went to is very clean, quiet, and friendly, the two staffs they got are both very, very nice. Dr Lee got good skills. According to our dentist, she got patients from other orthodontics doctor once a while whose teeth was pushed too much which got root problems, but she never got any such patients from Dr Lee. As far as I know, Dr Lee does not make any advertising effort. He "promotes" his business in the old fashion way - mouth of patients. That's why I am here to post my recommendation - I would love to do so because he truly earned my respect. read more

Dr. Lee is an experienced orthodontist, and I appreciate the work that he has done with my teeth. I went to him first when I was 12 years old, with buck teeth and a protruding upper jaw. After two years of treatment, I was able to have nice, straight teeth that were properly aligned, allowing for ease in closing my mouth properly (which was not the case with my buck teeth!) After my treatment, I was given clear retainers to wear. Recently, 12 years later, I went back to his office to get a new set of retainers, but my teeth had remained straight and aligned, much like they were before! His treatment for my teeth had been remained effective, and I'm thankful that this has allowed me now to have straight teeth as I go through life! He is a personable and knowledgeable doctor, and his staff are friendly, and take care in performing procedures on their patients. He keeps organized records of his patients, and his new office in Cupertino is nice and has good atmosphere. My experience with Dr. Lee has been very positive, and I would recommend him! read more

if all the doctors said it is a mission impossible and your child needs a surgery for sure, then you should go to Dr Warren Lee. Four years ago my wife and i took our daughter Ivy visiting and consulting around four Orthodontists in East Bay. Her teeth were incredibly disarrayed and it needs more than an engineering effort. All the doctors said she needed a surgery to have her head opened. That was scary, with the enormous money to spend, not to mention the risk involved. Luckily we found Dr Lee who is willing to take our case without having to go for surgery. Due to the extreme difficulties, it took almost 4 years to come to the finish line. The result is unbelievable and perfect, and my wife Sophy and I could not believe our eyes. Dr. Warren Lee has been my orthodontist for 5 years, and I could not hope for better results. He and his staff are extremely nice and helpful. They make sure their patients understand the procedure beforehand. When I started out, my teeth were very crooked and there was a huge gap between my two front teeth. Now, my teeth are perfectly lined up. A few months before my braces were removed, my teeth were already very straight. However, Dr. Lee went the extra mile and made them perfect. If I could give him a -1, I would. After my friend told me about what he has done to her teeth when she went in for braces, I was appalled. She told me that Dr. Lee gave her braces without first cleaning her teeth. When she took it off, not only did she get cavities from being unable to clean the glued-part of her teeth for over a year, her teeth weren't even aligned. Further, the metal wire cut into her lip on the inside, leaving a scar that looks like a knife making a cut to a jello. Her inner mucus skin has a flappy area now because of this. Although, he replaced the metal wire with a different kind, it was too late. I saw the flap in her mouth once and it was very saddening. I personally got my braces in Boston, MA. The price I paid was normal, and my DDS *cleaned* my teeth first. After a year of wearing braces, I had 0 cavities. When doctors don't care about their patient's teeth, then they have no right to practice dental surgery. In the age where information is readily available, make sure to check on Yelp to see whether a DDS is trust-worthy. This doctor is not. read more

I created an account on yelp just to talk about Dr. Lee. I can't believe my parents approved of this orthodontist to fix my teeth because it was definitely not worth it. Dr. Lee does not truly care about his patients and he just wants your money. I've asked Dr. Lee many questions about my teeth but he would just ignore them and reply with short and vague answers that were not helpful at all. After getting my braces off, I realized there were uneven teeth and asked him many questions. He paid absolutely no interest in answering my questions. He does not care about his patients anymore after you finish paying all your fees and your teeth are somewhat straight. I would rate this orthodontist a 0/5 stars if I could. read more

I cannot thank Dr. Lee enough for his impeccable service that he provided many years even after I had my braces done with him back in high school. My fixed retainer's wire was bothering me quite a bit -- Dr. Lee was very accommodating and was happy to have me swing by the office so he could take a look, assess, and address the issue. although the staff is very friendly, and Dr Lee's appearance is very deceptive and his fees VERY expensive. Do not think you will get better treatment or services because of the higher fees he is charging. The office is very busy, he does not have time or patience to listen to and answer any questions, uses a lot of technical terms that he does not explain, and will leave you and move to the next customer if you ask to clarify the answers. He cannot be bothered about any concerns you may have about your treatment. He is a very intelligent person, but also cunning and calculating. He gave me a full analysis for free and also explained the details to me. I am impressed how much technical knowledge he has. After a few weeks, I decided to let Dr. Lee to work on my teeth. Dr. Lee has been my family's orthodontist since around 2008, he and his assistants are always very nice, warm, and caring. Dr. Lee always tried to explain things for every stage patiently. 7 years ago, my son started seeing Dr. Warren Lee. We were very pleased with the professional expertise and gentle work manners of the doctor and his assistants. When later on my daughter needed braces, we went straight back to him. 18 months ago I decided to have my own orthodontic work done. When it was completed, boy was I pleased. Not only do my teeth look nice and even, but their chewing functions have greatly improved. Dr. Lee's assistants are super nice and skillful. Every time they re tie the wires in they always felt my teeth carefully to make sure there was nothing poking out. The whole process was way easier on me than I expected.
