About 8 years ago, I brought my daughter to Dr Bulucea. She is an excellent orthodontist. My daughter always gets compliments on her smile. I decided I would drive from Gilroy and bring my son also. He just got his braces removed and his teeth look beautiful. I found the whole process to be very easy. At the first appointment, Dr Bulucea explains the entire process. She gives you a treatment plan and an idea of how long the process will take. The fees are extremely reasonable and she does offer a payment plan. All of the appointments run smoothly and on time. We got our braces done here due to the very reasonable price Ginny quoted (during initial consultation). And I have to say that was the best part of our experience ... the first consultation. Our 2+ yr with Cupertino Ortho felt like the movie Mean Girls. Half the visits went okay. However if there is an issue with our braces, or if Dr B or Ginny was not in a good mood.... your entire visit depends on their attitude. We have been yelled at in front of everyone... entire office went silent afterwards after Dr B slammed her office door behind her. She yelled, got up, walked into her office, slammed door. SILENCE. Several patients looked outright scared. Dr came out 5 mins later as if nothing happened. If we could do it over again, we would go elsewhere. My advice is read all 2-3 star reviews then decide. Positives - Low prices. The dental assistants Regina and Claire were nice. Front desk Lynn (not sure of exact name - Asian petite lady) was always considerate with us. Cons - the orthodontist Dr B and office manager Ginny. When they are both in the office the atmosphere becomes uncomfortable and rude. Another reason being over hearing them bad-mouthing patients behind closed doors. We came to dread our visits 2nd year. Lastly schedules were rigid for our grade-school kid. I do not recommend this place, they lack professional etiquette. My daughter did the first part of her treatment with them, we moved but we made the choice to finish with them the treatment. When we came back to start the second part, I was informed that she did not want to continue. I was a long time patient of Dr. Befu and Dr. Yamamoto who were the practitioners at this location before the current team took over. I'll admit I wasn't the best at keeping up with my orthodontic maintenance over the years, and the couple of times that I saw Dr. Bulucea she was able to take care of my problems. However, my review is mainly based on my last transaction with the practice, which will likely be my last. My regular wire retainers that I wore for years finally broke and I went to Cupertino Ortho Care to have a new set made. They took impressions and made a set for me pretty promptly, however they didn't fit right. The doctor insisted that, per her exam, they did but I could just tell something was off. However, I was on a time crunch as I was moving out of state for work a couple of days after my appointment. She told me to try them out and if they didn't work to come back in and she would make me a set of clear plastic retainers and that she would also reimburse me the difference in cost (they were ~$200 cheaper). I tried the wire retainers for a couple of months and they regularly fell out of my mouth while I was sleeping. When I finally came back home for a visit and could actually make it in for an appointment (their office is barely ever open), they informed me they would be able to give me a set of the clear retainers but not reimburse me the difference in cost. The practice manager said I would be essentially getting "a free retainer" because they wouldn't be able to do anything with my old one. Well, neither can I...they don't fit in my mouth. Given the multitude of orthodontic practices in the Bay Area, I'll probably opt for a different one the next time I'm in need of orthodontia. read more

My 10-yr old daughter started coming here in January this year for overbite treatment. The explanation of the orthodontics process, the gear/braces care, insurance coverage, my balance, and payment methods are all thorough and clear to me. I thought this is the best clinic after I went to two other places nearby. What made me decide is (1) the estimate was reasonable, not too high not too low, and (2) the treatment method was different from two others and was the way I believe d logical. The treatment method was also liked by the patient, my daughter. Her treatment has gone very good so far. We really appreciated Dr Bulucea showed up on one day the clinic was closed, due to an emergency when her gear broke. Her care is that wonderful. What I like the most about here is Ginny. She is a professional office manager, who is efficient and knows all patients' ongoing conditions, possibly their history as well. She doesn't have me kept waited and solves my questions mostly right away. I sincerely appreciate that effectiveness. I think you may also want to hear the patient's review, and here is my daughters: "I give four stars, while I want to give three stars for the staff's greetings. I don't feel positiveness when I arrive there. They ask me only regular "how are you?" and there is no further cheerful conversations. So I leave the place like my work is done and just let out. But, I like this place because I received a birthday card." It seems this place is not very kids friendly, but that's okay to me. In reference to the cost, I received quotes from two other orthodontists: one in Mountain View, who has 5-star by Yelpers, estimated $6,800, while another one in Sunnyvale, who has 2-star by Yelpers estimated $3,000. All, including this Cupertino Ortho Care, are quoted after visual examination and without insurance coverage, while these two offered the same treatment method. You see, there is a huge gap depending upon the clinics. I encourage everyone to get estimates from at least three practitioners. Cupertino Ortho Care was our third stop, and we decided not going any other practitioners. I want to keep updated as the treatment goes on. read more

I am getting my top brackets in about two weeks so I cannot comment of the overall result just yet. However, I already have many good things to say about Dr. Bulucea and her happy and very helpful staff. During my consultation Dr. Bulucea herself discussed the options available to me and how each one would impact my overall results. She also provided a video that taught me more about jaw surgery and how it is done. She also, in detail, discussed how my jaw would change with surgery and/or extractions and braces. The most important part in deciding on an ortho for me was to find someone that was not pushy about making me spend more money, but more focused on what would be the best treatment for my case.Dr. Bulucea provided just that. Her receptionist also knows her stuff, she was so helpful with the financial side of things and recommending certain services that will help the process of braces. I will update my review in a couple of weeks when I get my top brackets on. Just had my top brackets placed, so far so good. Happy that they had a hot pink option for bands. Also relieved that my braces will be put on in stages, first top, then bottom, then eventually rubber bands to move some of my top teeth, and they also did not push on extractions. I must wait 6 months to see how things progress and then decide. I love the idea of taking my time to make a decision between jaw surgery in extractions. Worst service I had ever had! Its first time schedule for my kid's ortho appointment and I had this scheduled 3 months back! I wasn't aware of the 10 mins window late then you have to reschedule, they didn't inform me. Came all the way from Sunnyvale! I brought with me my 6 mos old baby because I dont have helper and when they are done chatting, there's this lady who came to us that they cannot accommodate us because its 11:13! This place is not only for orthodontics, but also for pediatric dentistry. I came here for my daughter in April and she is 2 and this was her first dentist appointment. There are toys in the waiting room for the kids to play with, as well as a movie, so my daughter had fun while we waited. We didn't have to wait long, and the dentist saw us soon after we got there. They had her lay down on our laps for her to do a quick cleaning and spot check on her teeth. Needless to say, my daughter hated it, but I expect that from a 2 year old! Afterwards, they gave her some toys to bring home along with a toothbrush and toothpaste and floss. I ended up getting a bill in the mail for $89 from them. When I looked at my insurance's EOB, it said I only owed them $30. So I called them to ask about it. I called them on a Tuesday, and it looks like they are closed that day, so I called them on Wednesday. The lady tried to help me, but couldn't because I think she is part of ortho care and not pediatric side. So she told me Tina would call me back. Well, Tina did not call me back that day, and I called back the next day. Their phone just goes to voicemail which states that they are closed and will reopen on Saturday. Really? So you are closed Tuesday, Thurs, and Friday? What kind of dentist operates like that? And if I need to spend so much time trying to fix your billing error, do you think I really want to come back here? I don't have time to fight with you on my billing every single time I go here, so no thank you. We have been coming here for 2 years. Service was great under Michelle Dean, unfortunately she no longer works in the Cupertino office. Since then, it's been poor customer service and patient satisfaction. The one star review is specifically for Geraldine Gerges, she is HORRIBLE. We were told in January that our daughter had a cavity. Due to COVID-19, our appointment was rescheduled several times to Dec 15th. It then somehow moved to Dec 1st (without my permission). She now had 3 cavities? Where? She did not show me on xray. First, they take ADVANCE payment for your portion? What is this an ER? Normally, insurance pays, and you are billed for the rest. They MUST be desperate if they take payment up front. Anyway, we agreed to do fillings and "keep an eye on" the others. She also mentioned a treatment plan which we NEVER discussed. Moments later I find out she has placed a crown on my daughter without my consent! We discussed fillings, NOT a crown. Gerges has ruined my daughter's beautiful smile and we have no intention of ever returning to this place! In all my years at Stanford, UCSF, and UCLA, I have NEVER met a "doctor" like Gerges. I live in Hayward, I've been with my kids all around my home city looking for a really professional orthodontist, who could be very kind with the patients, who could explain every procedure, and I couldn't find. She does not have the expertise of the more experienced orthodontists. Towards the end, her petulance makes me feel unwanted and uncared for. She is ill-mannered and she does not listen to my requests, merely goes along with her own original and "unchangeable" plan towards the end of treatment, which is not desired of the patient. Forget about the actual orthodontics process, which I'm also not that impressed with frequent broken brackets a day or two after they're adjusted. The major issue is the horrible scheduling of appointments. They seem to overbook all the time with multiple people on the same time slot so you'll always have a long wait when you get there. And if you have a broken bracket, instead of taking you in to fix it right away, they'd schedule to fix it days later, often times with non-school friendly time slots. Totally frustrated by them and would not recommend, especially for school-age kids. read more
