I am so surprised that I didn't write a review for Dr. Lee. My daughter started treatment with Dr…read more Lee in 2014 when she was just 9 years old. Our dentist had recommended him and my sister was his patient when she was a teenager. Dr. Lee was nothing short of wonderful. He was always pleasant to be around and greeted everyone who walked into the office. His staff was attentive and showed a lot of care during all of our appointments. I don't know if they still do raffles at the office but during the 3 years my daughter had treatment they did. She won movie tickets one time. Towards the end of my daughter's treatment Dr. Sunwoo was in the process of taking over for Dr. Lee. We had the pleasure of having him oversee the last couple of appointments my daughter had. He was very personable and kind. Dr. Lee has since retired but left the practice he started in good hands. I recommend Dr. Sunwoo to friends and family.

My daughter is a current patient of Dr. Sunwoo's (correction of cross bite was the initial reason…read morewe came for a consultation) and I highly recommend him and his staff! What I was first impressed with was how much time Dr. Sunwoo spent during the consultation explaining directly to my daughter what was going on, details about the treatment, and end goal. This eased a lot of my daughter's anxiety as she was able to ask him questions directly. (Typically doctors speak to parents only and the child is sitting there panicking about what they can piece together ). We have quickly seen results with the correction of her cross bite too. Not done, but it's helpful to see progress! If you're a busy household like ours, extra stars for always being on time with appointments! We rarely have to wait more than a couple of minutes before she goes in.

I had a deeply disappointing experience with this office after returning for follow-up care…read more Despite being a returning patient, my family was treated with rigid policies that weren't explained upfront, and we were denied flexibility that other patients seem to receive. My son was told to "go somewhere else" after simply asking for support. I don't feel comfortable sharing the full situation publicly, but I will say this: if you're a working-class family or going through any kind of financial reset, be cautious. The energy changed as soon as we asked questions and stood up for ourselves. We won't be returning.

I was a patient of Dr. Nguyen some years back and somehow forgot to leave a review; I just saw the…read morestaff for the first time since then to get a new retainer and that jogged my memory to leave this review. My case was complicated due to jaw surgery being required in the middle of treatment. So I was a patient for a LONG time (which I knew in advance). Dr. Nguyen and all the staff were consistently outstanding; if anyone could make going to the orthodontist tolerable for a slightly dental-adverse adult, these folks passed with flying colors. Great competence with a sense of humor. Nothing like a proper bite, straight teeth, and a nice smile for the first time in my adult life. Shout outs to Nelia and Karina (and Sam -- go Warriors!).

I had a disappointing experience at this orthodontic clinic during my consultation…read more I was quoted $250 just for photos and iCast/digital model, which is something multiple other clinics in the area provided at no cost as part of a standard consultation. When I politely asked if there was any flexibility or clarification on the fee, the orthodontist responded by saying he would not work on my case. The overall tone felt rude and very money-focused, rather than patient-focused. During the consultation, he also stated that my dental midline was 4 mm shifted without properly examining or measuring. I mentioned that from previous evaluations it was closer to 1.5-2 mm, and after checking more carefully, he agreed it was about 2 mm. This made me question the thoroughness of the initial assessment. I understand that every practice has its own pricing structure, but patients should be treated with respect and clear communication--especially during a first consultation where trust is being built. Because of the lack of professionalism and transparency, I decided to continue my treatment with another provider. I'm sharing this so other patients are aware of the consultation policy and the communication style at this office.

Summary: I paid lots of money and time to make my teeth worse than the originally were. It's not…read morethe end of the world and I don't have any serious problems at the moment, but my gumline receded significantly so I'm more likely to have dental problems earlier than I would've. On top of that I have poorer dental hygiene despite spending more time on dental hygiene (flossing and brushing twice per day, and wearing retainers all the time), and the original bite issue was not solved in any significant way. Dr. Chen takes his work seriously and generally tries to do what he can to help. However, he has made a couple of decisions which I believe negatively influenced my dental health. The first was that he should've persuaded me not to get braces in the first place or at least been upfront about the possible negative effects. I know orthodontists need to make a living doing orthodontics but they should be more strict about accepting only patients who have a high chance of benefitting from the procedure. In my case, my only problem was a bad bite where only my back teeth were touching. I later read that this is actually not a very severe issue and most people can/should live with it without needing any dental treatment. Another issue is that the decision to correct the vertical alignment of my bite with a rubber band was hastily made and may not even have been the right fix to my issue. It was based on a few seconds of looking at my teeth getting my "comfortable bite", even though I had explicitly voiced a concern that I really have no idea if this is the most natural bite since it could just be my brain's way of trying to compensate and get the teeth to touch better when eating. Based on this short assessment I wore strong side-to-side rubber bands to move my teeth horizontally which I believe might have contributed to bone loss. Moreover the movement did not even stick and would frequently have to be redone. Dr. Chen insists there was no significant bone loss; however, my other dentist and I agree that bone loss from the treatment was pretty significant and obvious in the x-rays (x-rays included below). Another issue is that many of the changes during this procedure simply wouldn't stick and the teeth would revert to how they were before. As a result there was a lot of moving back and forth with no forward progress (there was some forward progress, but it was made mainly by the braces, not the rubber bands). One particular rubber band treatment felt quite magical in that it actually closed my bite to the point that I felt like something positive had come from the treatment. Unfortunately my teeth moved so fast that as soon as I removed my rubber bands it would regress literally hours later, so by the time I got my retainers, these changes were not present. I also feel that the TAD (screws in mouth as anchor points) treatment is oversold, as there is no evidence that they significantly moved my teeth, and also came out way earlier than expected, in the middle of treatment. x-rays before treatment (2014): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByBotxOxRJkDN3dhWjc2cnNMZkRQUkYzYnNDQ0V5NkdXUlRF/view?resourcekey=0-6GwJoKNFXhHQqXV5c3Qr5Q x-rays after treatment (2018): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1c0xRPsg134DjNbDSPOUXObsne9DR9eUg (Bone loss seems apparent to me, and my other dentist agrees there is bone loss even though Dr. Chen claimed there isn't. In the lower front teeth, what used to be "snaking" has become "stubby" and I even had to triple check to make sure I was looking at the same teeth). Gum line before: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByBotxOxRJkDZ21HcEN6cGxab0p6TFFtNzRiZ0tpcExXQV9z/view?resourcekey=0-ngV58DlBce9b3zw6HjaRtA Gum line after: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByBotxOxRJkDVG5NbVJ4aWV1eTlkWWg2eWtQMkozbjd4bHhz/view?resourcekey=0-eYOyPDKAcGklsOipjevm9Q As you can see the difference is visually quite pronounced and definitely not purely attributable to the 3 years of natural aging which was the duration of my treatment. My bite is still basically the same as before, so it seems the only positive outcome was improved cosmetic straightness of teeth, which is actually not a positive because I don't care about cosmetics at all (and, aesthetically speaking, higher gum line looks healthier and more youthful than receded gyms anyway). There's also a void of gum in my back teeth which has a 100% chance of being occupied by food every meal, which wasn't there before. My bottom front teeth still wiggle when moved years after treatment, and they never did before. These side effects including gum recession and bone loss were never mentioned in the consultation and sadly I had not done enough research at the time to realize they'd be such an issue. One good thing about Dr. Chen is that he is very available/responsive to questions by text message, and takes the time to explain

Discussed the potential treatment plans, my requirements and showed the doc previous panorama X-rays. By the actual treatment consultation over zoom 3 weeks later all the treatment approaches changed to the complete opposite. As I asked why everything changed and how follow on options would look like, the doctor said there's not enough trust, she can't treat my daughter, and hung up on me within 15min. There was no room for discussion or questions. It was odd to see the doctor expecting trust for a 2yr treatment, while not willing to spend 3 more min explaining her rationale. Bottom line is if she chooses to treat you, I'm sure it'll be fine. But you might end up hearing all the good stuff in first meeting, wasting both time and hundreds $$$ on photos for a second meeting, then get all the opposite stories and get hung up on for the last. Their X-ray and picture fees are about twice as high as other ortho, so seems like a business idea to maximize income no matter what.

Super skilled at what she does and super gentle with the kids. You definitely feel like you can trust her. My son had cavities that had to be filled, with laughing gas and it went very well. Finally, my youngest daughter had the most dental work done here after she experienced cavities and tooth decay due to drinking milk in bed as a baby and not brushing afterwards. She had to do the repair under general anesthesia at 3, which is super nerve-wrecking as a parent but under the care of Dr Nancy it went very well. We appreciate that everything is super kid friendly, from the coin kids get to retrieve a prize at the end of each visit, the tee shirt and picture with the dentist they get on their first visit, etc. We will keep coming here and also a special shoutout to all the dental assistants! We appreciate you.

Misrepresentation/Deceptive Billing - Filed Insurance Claim but Hid an "Internal" Cash Charge…read more Be extremely cautious if you are an out-of-network patient here!!! During my visit, I was charged a fee that the front desk explicitly told me was my "Out-of-Network Copay." However, after checking my insurance statement (EOB), I discovered that while the clinic did file a claim with my insurance, they completely omitted this charge from the claim and kept it as a separate, undocumented transaction. When I questioned them, they changed their story, claiming it was just an "internal code" charged to all out-of-network patients. Masking a private, arbitrary office fee as an "insurance copay" while deliberately keeping it off the official claim submitted to insurance is unethical and deceptive. Patients deserve full transparency, not mislabeled fees and unbundled billing. I strongly advise checking your EOBs and asking the purpose of payment carefully if you visit this practice.

I am one of those relapsed cases…read more After wearing metal braces for several years in middle school, I neglected to wear my retainers post-braces, and my lower front teeth moved and progressively overcrowded more and more. Eventually, not only was the appearance bothering me, but so was the bite as this was affecting my upper front teeth as well. I did some pretty extensive online legwork and found 3 local orthodontists (I highly advise orthodontist over dentist, you want to get it right the first time around) whom I visited to get initial Invisalign consults. I was set on Invisalign because I absolutely didn't want to revisit those middle school years with metal braces. And who doesn't want to get Align Technology's computerized video showing exactly how your teeth will move back into alignment? So cool for the nerdiest of us! After visiting all 3, I decided to go with Dr. Kouvaris over the other two orthodontists in the area who are also highly rated. His pricing was completely reasonable, and my dental insurance+HSA made Invisalign pricing even better. As a person, Dr. Kouvaris is genuine, easy going, and a straight-shooter, patiently and thoroughly answering all my questions rather than trying to impress me with an over-the-top remodeled storefront and marketing materials I know my Invisalign overhead dollars would be going toward. Additionally, he treated me like an educated peer, respecting my opinions and thoughts, and sharing his own expert advice. He has solid academic training and experience. My 9-month Invisalign treatment plan went off without a hitch. It wasn't painless (when is moving teeth painless?), but it was comforting knowing the pain was coming from my teeth being moved in the correct direction and being able to see the progress with each new aligner. And during each office visit, I was greeted with warm smiles by everyone there and my questions were always answered. Since finishing Invisalign, I have been loving my new teeth! Dr. recommended a permanent lingual retainer to maintain my now super straight lower front teeth. I took his advice and have grown to love it. Additionally, he sculpted my teeth so they are all the same height and perfectly even -- love the perfectionism! I've also been wearing my upper removable retainer every night because I want to make sure my teeth stay as straight as can be. I definitely don't want to be re-straightening them again after having now gone through two rounds of braces. But if I were to do it again, I would definitely go back to Dr. Kouvaris with no hesitations. Thank you Dr. for the wonderful experience and my super straight teeth that I love to show off!
