There is a pool but too short for laps so I just did calisthenics. Saw others using the hot tub. The kitchen staff accommodated my husband's dietary needs. Everyone was friendly and checked into our needs from the front desk, kitchen, and cleaning staff. Good to hear that they were able to save their property during the fires because of the sprinkler system. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Especially liked the inside shutters on the windows (which all had screens to keep the bugs out). Breakfast was simple but filling and they give you a sweet and savory course. I've read complaints that it wasn't "fancy" enough but felt creative enough for us and everything was perfectly cooked, so no complaints. They also left a birthday card and chocolates for my husband's birthday which was lovely. Three or four different wines are available in the afternoon, through the evening. There is a public "living room" with a fireplace, games, and lots of brochures of the area. We are sensitive about barking dogs but didn't experience any during our stay. We could hear the guests next door through the bathroom wall on occasion but just closed the door and it was fine. This hotel is within walking distance to the town center (although, no sidewalk) and has a fairly large grocery store and cafes/restaurants. Jack London Park is a must see. There is no staff on site after 9 pm (till 7:30 am) but it wasn't a problem for us. They do leave contact info for guests. I don't see this as a place to get rowdy and we experienced guests being respectful and polite. All in all a very pleasant experience to be in nature but with modern amenities.

But first, the good: their accommodations remain fabulous. We stayed in the Upper Poolside Cottage (Room 10) and it's just wonderful. The Comphy sheets are just heaven. Their bath towels are also plush and luxurious. Two thumbs up for in-room linens! Heated floors in the bathroom and 2-sided fireplace provide nice warmth and comfort. Complimentary snacks and fizzy water in the mini fridge are a nice bonus, too. The poolside cottages are the cat's meow, and just a short hop to the pool and hot tub. But there are several things that I noted during our last visit that made me feel like maybe this may have been our last visit to the Olea. First, there was a goodly amount of trash strewn about the property. At the hot tub, there was a wine bottle cap on the bench (I know, wine country, to be expected, right?), but what truly grossed me out was the wad of used athletic wrap right next to the hot tub. Blech! As I grabbed both of these items and took them to the trash (all of five or six steps from where they had been scattered), I noticed even more bits of trash in the corner area near the planters. Like more trash than would be expected by just one party being messy. (Also, the planter area was weedy and just seemed neglected.) I dismissed it as just not getting some needed attention, until I returned to our cottage and noticed several more pieces of trash right by our front door that I had missed earlier. And apparently so did housekeeping and management. Plus broken tree limbs atop the roof of the main building. And a huge rip in one of the pool lounge chair pads. And a very large hole (~3") in a pool towel. Just signs of general neglect and subpar for this place, especially at their price point. Second and perhaps even more disappointing is how much the included breakfast service has changed. It's gone from a 2-course, made-in-house gourmet affair to a continental style DYI breakfast, apparently now even on the weekends. The only thing made to order is the avocado toast (for obvious reasons). For those guests who hadn't enjoyed the previous offerings, perhaps it doesn't seem too bad. Nice spread. But I sorely miss the delectable morning meals and the awesome homemade chai along with the service for breakfast. I'd give this an updated 3.5 stars but will round up to 4 because I still really want to love this place. Also, Star provided friendly and welcoming service at the front desk, which was appreciated.

You have a living room and small dining area, then you have a separate bedroom and bathroom. It is so private and charming. Their home sits on an acre of land, you have access to a large swimming pool, hammocks, gazebo, and outdoor chairs and tables. They provided cheese, crackers, some chocolates, soda, and water and a little refrigerator. They also provide an ice chest and picnic basket. Every morning we were treated to a gorgeous breakfast. It started with coffee and tea, croissants, and fresh fruit. Then the main entrée of an egg dish or pancakes arrived. The place was very neat and tidy, they have two wonderful old dogs on the property. One morning during breakfast we saw an entire family of quail having their breakfast outside of our window. There are birdfeeders and bird baths everywhere. I highly recommend this place.

There were initially some issues with dynamic pricing, but they were able to correct things on the back end, which was much appreciated. The main building and breakfast area are both very warm and inviting. The couches and seats are comfortable. There are games and books in the cabinet areas too. The chef provides a tasty breakfast each day, with the menu slightly changing. There is coffee, tea, and hot/cool water available all day. It can get a little crowded at breakfast, so if you are in a large group, go either very early or very late. The afternoon happy hour is pretty relaxed with some offerings of cheese, crackers, and wine. Be sure to ask for gluten-free options, as they have them available. They also prepared nice chocolates for my parents (anniversary) and a cookie for my nephew (birthday), which was a lovely touch. The rooms are fine, some are a little darker and/more dated, but that didn't bother us. The one thing that I would've done differently, is to bring an eye mask and ear plugs. Depending on where your room is located, you could be facing the main street. The doors in certain buildings would slam pretty loudly, so if you had neighbors returning late at night, you would definitely hear them. I am a little fussy with beds, and I found the Vitners King (seemed more like a Cali King?) bed to be a little firm and transferred movement easily. We would consider splurging for the updated rooms next time. Bonus that they have cruiser bikes to borrow. It was very nice to go for a quick ride one of the mornings. The location is fantastic, it's within walking distance to downtown. There are so many great restaurants to visit. In addition, wineries and parks are also a close drive away. Breakfast every morning was so delicious, not a very large menu but everything was well executed with good healthy options and excellent pastries. Special shout out to Susie who was super sweet, provided wonderful service and made sound recommendations for some activities. The charging station at the premise was so convenient for EV and included. Our room was comfortable, bed was firm (good) but quite high, after mentioning to the front desk, footstools were brought over within 10 minutes... Also enjoyed the nice gardens, especially the fragrance from the sweet olive. This is such a nice treat, we shall return.

Unfortunately, this stay was remarkably disappointing. Our room had an enormous carpet stain. Both TVs repeatedly froze on "Accessing" and reset to the Chromecast screen despite staff trying to fix them. Our in-room dining arrived with soggy fries and brown avocado. Restaurant service was consistently slow, including at Santé, where our waiter disappeared and I eventually had to go looking for someone just to get our check. Our six-year-old was excited about the kids' lounge, but the advertised PlayStation was broken. The restroom across the hall had a toilet full of sewage. We also had parking problems twice. We were told self-parking was $29, but the machine tried to charge us $50 the first time and $53 the second. The front desk later told us we should have received a parking QR code at check-in, but no one had given us one. Finally, a $20 DoorDash delivery disappeared after being delivered to the hotel. No one brought it to our room or contacted us, and the hotel could not locate it the following day. Front-desk lines were substantial virtually every time we needed assistance. A manager did waive our resort fee, which we appreciated. But given the sheer number of problems, that didn't feel proportionate to the experience. We actually considered leaving, but this was my wife's 40th birthday weekend and we had planned the trip around staying here, so we tried to make the best of it. Based on our previous Fairmont stays, we expected considerably better.
