The service was great from start to finish, and the whole place has a fun, vibrant atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The manager was especially friendly and very talkative in the best way, taking the time to tell us about the other restaurants they have. It made the experience feel personal and welcoming. All the way from up north!!! These tacos are so good! The margaritas were only $5 and were fresh made no mix! Gotta love that! The food lacked flavor overall. My wife ordered queso for her chips but was given nacho cheese instead--felt more like a high school basketball game than a restaurant. The Mexican rice was bland, and the chicken wasn't shredded enough for tacos or nachos, which made the texture off. First time visiting this restaurant, the menu, service and location is fine but I was a little disappointed by the flavor. I think this restaurant has a lot of potential because of it's location. I ordered fish tacos and I felt like the taste was bland, the mild sauce had no flavor. On the pros my food was served fast and accompanied with rice and beans. Both were good. This was first time at Wapo Taco and definitely my first time trying Tex-Mex food. I learned about the restaurant by their advertisement on Instagram, and decided to check it out since I was in the Hallandale Beach area. There's a menu posted by the entrance so you can look it over and know what you want before entering. The cost for the food is a bit pricey, ranging from $12-$25. For those ptices; the meals better come with a drink, an appetizer, and dessert...okay. There are soups, salads, burritos/chimichangas, quesadillas, fajitas, tacos (soft/hard), Wapo plate/bowl, beer & wine, hot & cold beverages, etc. Inside the restaurant was quiet and colorful with plenty of seating for the customers. I greeted a female employee the counter and placed my order of the chimichanga de carne to go. It was prepared very quickly...a big portion of tender steak with rice wrapped in a soft tortilla; and topped with sour cream, shredded lettuce, and diced tomato...served with some chips & homemade salsa. I wasn't able to eat the whole thing by myself, so I shared pieces with my kids who seemed to like it...it was pretty good. Came here in the spur of the moment. I have lived by Wapo Tacos for quite sometimes and were meaning to try it out. It just so happens that Yesterday, My friends and I were on our way to play some basketball when we decided to stop by since it was close and would be a quick bite to eat. The food was terrible, it was taco tuesday so I order 3 tacos and the soup. My friends also got tacos. We all collectively agreed that the tacos were all lacking in flavor, even after adding all three sauces they provided and adding salt. There were no real spices. This small but mighty taco shop was an unexpected stopped but proved to be mighty! I had the chicken bowl, their spin on a burrito bowl. Let me tell you, Chipotle had us all thinking we knew what a good bowl was! The meat was tender and SO flavorful and the guacamole...yummy! I didn't expect this place to be authentic and yummy but actually shrimp taco plate wasn't bad, and all the hot sauces were good except for the non spicy salsa, chips weren't bad either but I didn't like the tortilla so I left it out. Just to add, the nachos on the menu are $13. For that price, it should come with more than just cheese and beans. I've made better nachos while drunk in my college dorm room..... The fajitas we ordered (1 order was shrimp fajitas) for 22 bucks only came with a 5 shrimp (see pic) Also, both fajita orders didn't come with the fajita tortillas to wrap them up in, so we had to eat them like that. I lived in Mexico City growing up and this was the closest place to the tacos I would eat there. I had not been here since before the start of the pandemic. They've changed the menu and it seems more Tex-mex than authentic Mexican. They even have dishes that aren't Mexican or Tex-mex like tequeños that are Venezuelan. The quality of the food has dived significantly. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like old El Paso. My mother ordered guac and it was just puréed avocado with no flavor. The tacos ordered were flavorless. The carnitas were incredibly dry and the pastor had no resemblance to what their pastor used to be. I am really hurt that a place I used to love going to had turned into the polar opposite of what it was. The waiter was rude and in a rush. We felt we were kicked out of the place. Wapo Taco is not a good Mexican restaurant. Their Mahi Mahi Tacos SUCK! Frozen Mahi Mahi in south Florida? 3 single soft shell tacos all fell apart after 2 bites each. Service was ok and waitress was barely friendly. I guess for a lot of One time customers from the hotels nearby it'll stay alive but they will never be what the original Wapo Taco was. I just recently went back to this restaurant for the 2nd time, first time since Covid. It is not a fancy place if that's what you are looking for. It's a small, casual Mexican place where you can get some good food at reasonable prices. I found the service to be pretty good. The waiter came by as soon as we sat down. For starters, we ordered the queso fundido with chorizo which was so good! I love to dip the tortilla chips in it...We, of course, ordered the margarita to go along with it. For entrees, I ordered the Beef Wapo bowl and my friend ordered the salad and added the al pastor beef. We both were very satisfied with our orders. We stopped in on opening night, something we normally never do with new restaurants because, let's be honest it tends to be a disaster. However, Wapo Taco was the opposite. Sure, it was busy but our service and food were all spot on. Most of the seating is wrapped around the kitchen, which makes for a good show as you see the staff roll out fresh tortillas and cook up tasty bites. To start we ordered the chicharron de queso, which is essentially a rolled up thin layer of fried cheese served with a side of guacamole - so good. For our mains my fiance ordered the tacos de arracherra and I had the baja shrimp tacos. Not only did they both taste fresh and delicious, they came out super fast - something that rarely happens on opening night. Although my dish didn't need it, they provide you with a plate full of freshly made sauces/salsa and other ingredients to top off your tacos with. We're always looking for new mexican restaurants to get our fix, and since it's up the street from us we'll definitely be back in the near future. read more

The steak had good flavor and nachos were also topped with guac and refried beans. $9 for the substandard nachos. The chips and salsas they bring out are complimentary. The pico de gallo didn't have much flavor to it. Tacos are about $4-5 each. There is a large bar area overlooking kitchen. Also indoor tables and a few outdoor tables. As previous posts have mentioned, the menu is not kid friendly. There was a family that had to go next door to the burger place to feed their kids. They do not have ground beef tacos. It's essentially a small takeout spot but they charged us over $3 automatically on the bill for gratuity? The fish taco was terrible- not fresh and piled with onions and lettuce to cover up that there was barely fish in it for over $10 for two. The carnitas (also overpriced) were inedible.
