We visited Wapo Taco for the first time and were pleasantly surprised! The carnitas tacos and carne tacos were absolutely delicious--full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The service was great from start to finish, and the whole place has a fun, vibrant atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The manager was especially friendly and very talkative in the best way, taking the time to tell us about the other restaurants they have. It made the experience feel personal and welcoming. Overall, a great first visit. We'll definitely be back! read more

All the way from up north!!! These tacos are so good! The margaritas were only $5 and were fresh made no mix! Gotta love that! They had a small outdoor section for seating so obviously I took full advantage. My server was so sweet! If you're visiting near by looking for a lil snack or dinner i definitely recommend. Great prices cool vibe. read more

The food lacked flavor overall. My wife ordered queso for her chips but was given nacho cheese instead--felt more like a high school basketball game than a restaurant. The Mexican rice was bland, and the chicken wasn't shredded enough for tacos or nachos, which made the texture off. Either the kitchen was having an off night or there are bigger consistency issues, but improvement is definitely needed. read more

The chicken is very tasty . Love the guac. Slowish service. Dark interior . Lack of good decor.

First time visiting this restaurant, the menu, service and location is fine but I was a little disappointed by the flavor. I think this restaurant has a lot of potential because of it's location. I ordered fish tacos and I felt like the taste was bland, the mild sauce had no flavor. On the pros my food was served fast and accompanied with rice and beans. Both were good. Fresh ingredients, fast and friendly service are also pros. Plenty of parking inside the plaza. The restaurant is located a couple of steps away from the UPS store. read more

Food was ok, but the worst service ever! The same owner was so busy and she didn't even want to help me. This has been the worst service possible! There is no way in the world I will ever come back here! Typical of South Florida! Don't waste your time and money. You will have to wait more than one hour to get two tacos. It's complete NOT WORTHY! I don't understand why they open business if they are so bitter and unhappy. They will make humankind a favor if they are out of our sight! read more

This was first time at Wapo Taco and definitely my first time trying Tex-Mex food. I learned about the restaurant by their advertisement on Instagram, and decided to check it out since I was in the Hallandale Beach area. There's a menu posted by the entrance so you can look it over and know what you want before entering. The cost for the food is a bit pricey, ranging from $12-$25. For those ptices; the meals better come with a drink, an appetizer, and dessert...okay. There are soups, salads, burritos/chimichangas, quesadillas, fajitas, tacos (soft/hard), Wapo plate/bowl, beer & wine, hot & cold beverages, etc. Inside the restaurant was quiet and colorful with plenty of seating for the customers. I greeted a female employee the counter and placed my order of the chimichanga de carne to go. It was prepared very quickly...a big portion of tender steak with rice wrapped in a soft tortilla; and topped with sour cream, shredded lettuce, and diced tomato...served with some chips & homemade salsa. I wasn't able to eat the whole thing by myself, so I shared pieces with my kids who seemed to like it...it was pretty good. Eventually I will return to try something else...whenever I feel like indulging in Tex-Mex food. read more

SHADY BUSINESS ETHICS AND PRACTICE... I witnessed the owner take food that he made for somebody else that was sitting, I'm assuming they never picked up, and he repackaged it for me and tried to pass it off as fresh, I was in total shock and didn't know what to say so I just paid and left and threw the food out. Absolutely horrified somebody would do that. At least tell the customer or offer a discount. read more

Came here in the spur of the moment. I have lived by Wapo Tacos for quite sometimes and were meaning to try it out. It just so happens that Yesterday, My friends and I were on our way to play some basketball when we decided to stop by since it was close and would be a quick bite to eat. The food was terrible, it was taco tuesday so I order 3 tacos and the soup. My friends also got tacos. We all collectively agreed that the tacos were all lacking in flavor, even after adding all three sauces they provided and adding salt. There were no real spices. The soup was pretty good and they did throw everything on the grill to order. The service was subpar at best, I only gave them 2 stars because it was quick and easy. I forsure will not be returning read more

This small but mighty taco shop was an unexpected stopped but proved to be mighty! I had the chicken bowl, their spin on a burrito bowl. Let me tell you, Chipotle had us all thinking we knew what a good bowl was! The meat was tender and SO flavorful and the guacamole...yummy! Taco Tuesday has a new place to call home when I'm in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale! If there is one negative, the street corn wasn't to my desired taste but we can't win them all!‍ read more

I'm from California, been to Mexico many many times. I didn't expect this place to be authentic and yummy but actually shrimp taco plate wasn't bad, and all the hot sauces were good except for the non spicy salsa, chips weren't bad either but I didn't like the tortilla so I left it out. The inside was actually very cute reminds me of Mexico, the reason I gave 2 stars instead of 3 is because of the price, that little shrimp taco plate was $16, and so was crane asada burrito, I don't think I will come back here, it's definitely overpriced and I'm from LA... read more

This place used to be so good... what the hell happened? We ordered last night via UE app for dinner. We ordered nachos, and the cheese was cold and not even melted. Just to add, the nachos on the menu are $13. For that price, it should come with more than just cheese and beans. I've made better nachos while drunk in my college dorm room..... The fajitas we ordered (1 order was shrimp fajitas) for 22 bucks only came with a 5 shrimp (see pic) Also, both fajita orders didn't come with the fajita tortillas to wrap them up in, so we had to eat them like that. The order was 88 bucks total, and it was an insane rip off. They don't even give you complimentary chips and salsa like other places do. We own a condo less than 1 mile away from here, and just wanted to eat dinner. UE gave me a full refund once they saw these pictures.... what a joke. This place must have changed hands because about 5 years qgo, it was great. Save your money and order some where else. read more

I ordered a 3 taco dinner. Although the flavor was good, the pork was very fatty. Also, the portion was tiny for the price!!!! If you're hungry it will get the job done. We went one night while on vacation and weren't that impressed. Staff was friendly.

Looking for something to eat in the Hallandale Beach area? Wapo Taco serves authentic Mexican food and is open till 11:00pm daily. Looks like a typical taco shop, but with counter and table service. Now, if your budget only allows you to pick from something like a Taco Bell $1 Cravings menu, this place is not for you. Prices range between $9 - $17. The quality, freshness, and housemade specialties made with charcoal grilled ingredients are there. We stayed at the nearby Hampton Inn off of Federal and found ourselves with late night cravings for something good to eat. For the love of Yelp and tacos, Wapo Taco popped up on the radar! Complimentary Chips & Salsa trio + Chicken Flautas + Shrimp Burrito + Jamaica drink = absolutamente delicioso! Enjoyed every bite. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend the Chicken Flautas. The deep fried, rolled flour tortillas with savory chicken filling were completely devoured within a few minutes. The Shrimp burrito was a hearty addition filled with rice, beans, lettuce and several pieces of plump shrimp. Wapo Taco originates from Mexico City since 1962. Give this taqueria a try! read more

I work 5min away from this restaurant, first time I've tried their tacos was today. And let's just say that it's now my FAVORITE taco place. Awesome people and great service, they will definitely be seeing me again. Great ambiance! read more

I'm sorry but this is the worst Mexican restaurant ever! The food has NO FLAVOR at all. Rice and (all the) salsas are so bland and underwhelming. We ordered the chicken soup and it literally tasted like water, had no seasoning at all. Plus it's not cheap. AUGH never again read more

Good service, good ambience, Okay food. But some prices are way off. $10 for a street corn that wasn't even that good? It's not worth it. The worst was when the check arrived, because they added the tip and then charged 3,5% if paying with a credit card. Not fair! Why are they charging for credit card after taxes and tip? It felt we payed $60 for food and $20 in added tip plus fees. I'm not coming back. read more

I lived in Mexico City growing up and this was the closest place to the tacos I would eat there. I had not been here since before the start of the pandemic. They've changed the menu and it seems more Tex-mex than authentic Mexican. They even have dishes that aren't Mexican or Tex-mex like tequeños that are Venezuelan. The quality of the food has dived significantly. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like old El Paso. My mother ordered guac and it was just puréed avocado with no flavor. The tacos ordered were flavorless. The carnitas were incredibly dry and the pastor had no resemblance to what their pastor used to be. I am really hurt that a place I used to love going to had turned into the polar opposite of what it was. The waiter was rude and in a rush. We felt we were kicked out of the place. We will definitely not be returning there. read more

Wapo Taco is not a good Mexican restaurant. Their Mahi Mahi Tacos SUCK! Frozen Mahi Mahi in south Florida? 3 single soft shell tacos all fell apart after 2 bites each. Service was ok and waitress was barely friendly. I guess for a lot of One time customers from the hotels nearby it'll stay alive but they will never be what the original Wapo Taco was. All they had to do was keep the original menu since they were keeping the name and it would be a great restaurant. I'm amazed how restaurants screw up the perfect formula. read more

It's shame Bc this area really could use a killer Tex Mexican restaurant, but it's NOT this one. The food is terribly inconsistent! This place looks small but has decent seat and very long L shaped bar. Two people running the place (Lady in the front gentleman cooking) are really nice. This is my second time here. Everything was delicious even at hot sauce. I recommend it if you like Mexican food Even my grandpa, he's 89

I just recently went back to this restaurant for the 2nd time, first time since Covid. It is not a fancy place if that's what you are looking for. It's a small, casual Mexican place where you can get some good food at reasonable prices. I found the service to be pretty good. The waiter came by as soon as we sat down. For starters, we ordered the queso fundido with chorizo which was so good! I love to dip the tortilla chips in it...We, of course, ordered the margarita to go along with it. For entrees, I ordered the Beef Wapo bowl and my friend ordered the salad and added the al pastor beef. We both were very satisfied with our orders. Everything was jut delicious and the quantity was right. Will definitely go back soon! read more

I always get the chicken bowl. Fresh food and very good service. Once in a while I will order breakfast from here as well.

We ordered 4 things and the tab came to almost $60 gratuity included. We were the only people there. Guacamole wasn't fresh. Because it came out pre frozen. Frozen Margarita was all big junks of cubes can't even slurp it thru that paper straw. Chicken tacos and pork tacos was ok. Had better elsewhere. read more

We stopped in on opening night, something we normally never do with new restaurants because, let's be honest it tends to be a disaster. However, Wapo Taco was the opposite. Sure, it was busy but our service and food were all spot on. Most of the seating is wrapped around the kitchen, which makes for a good show as you see the staff roll out fresh tortillas and cook up tasty bites. To start we ordered the chicharron de queso, which is essentially a rolled up thin layer of fried cheese served with a side of guacamole - so good. For our mains my fiance ordered the tacos de arracherra and I had the baja shrimp tacos. Not only did they both taste fresh and delicious, they came out super fast - something that rarely happens on opening night. Although my dish didn't need it, they provide you with a plate full of freshly made sauces/salsa and other ingredients to top off your tacos with. We're always looking for new mexican restaurants to get our fix, and since it's up the street from us we'll definitely be back in the near future. read more

Great food and customer service good menu and pricing. will be coming back for breakfast next

Nothing special here. They serve their nachos with stadium nacho cheese sauce....not authentic! The steak had good flavor and nachos were also topped with guac and refried beans. $9 for the substandard nachos. The chips and salsas they bring out are complimentary. The pico de gallo didn't have much flavor to it. Tacos are about $4-5 each. There is a large bar area overlooking kitchen. Also indoor tables and a few outdoor tables. As previous posts have mentioned, the menu is not kid friendly. There was a family that had to go next door to the burger place to feed their kids. They do not have ground beef tacos. Service was good. You order from a waitress. There is plenty of parking in the attached lot. I will not be returning when there are so many better Mexican options in the area. read more

My husband and I went here years ago when it first opened and this is our first time being back. So terrible and overpriced. It's essentially a small takeout spot but they charged us over $3 automatically on the bill for gratuity? The fish taco was terrible- not fresh and piled with onions and lettuce to cover up that there was barely fish in it for over $10 for two. The carnitas (also overpriced) were inedible. I spit it out it was all skin and fat in one taco, the other taco was old reheated meat and was too tough to eat. We left the food on the table (4 tacos and a $4 small bottle of Pelegrino for $26) Gross, overpriced and will never be back. read more

Not even sure where to begin. So overpriced. The rice is parboiled bag rice. The beans are canned. We ordered picked. The fish tacos were dry. The restaurant didn't put the creamy chipotle sauce that was supposed to go on it nor did they even put it on the side. Pretty much kills a dish if you don't include the sauce. Their chicken is not seasoned "pollo." Its diced grilled chicken. Just trash food trying to "pass off" as Mexican. One order of fish tacos, one order carne asada, one chimichanga, one elote, an order of chicken nachos, $80. The place was dead. They weren't busy. That should of been the first sign. I understand we're in a pandemic but that shouldn't affect the "quality" or "authenticity" the food. It's an overpriced fake Mexican restaurant on Hallandale that feels they have a right to serve crap food for a lot of money because of their location. STAY AWAY. read more

this place is a nightmare. Food was cold and the service was terrible. We had asked for their pizzadilla after trying to eat our own plates but they were no good and they gave us the regular quesadilla which is a big difference but apparently not to them. We tried to get what we actually ordered and they immediately got defensive and we tried to take pictures of both their menu and what they gave us and she immediately covered it with her arms. we tried to get a refund on just the quesadilla which we had to fight them on and they only budged after we said we would cancel through our bank.
