This is a friendly, welcoming place with seating options indoors, outdoors and at the bar. Our waitress Jennifer was excellent, as she juggled multiple tables inside and out. Our water and Margarita glasses were kept full. My shredded pork roast dish was so good, and with the sides, I took it home and had it for lunch the next day. My wife enjoyed her Shrimp Criola, and we took some of that home, too. We got a carry-out of the Pechuga de Pollo for my mother-in-law at home. She loved the marinated chicken breast and sides. I returned to Don Lolo with my father and we got what we always get: grilled grouper. This time it was exceptionally good, even better than usual. I did throw in one innovation, and got a side of guacamole - that really picked the meal up a notch. I was delighted! We enjoyed the chips and salsa that come with the meal, paired with a couple of beers. I used to flinch at $60 for lunch (for two people), but that's how it is these days. Laid back, no frills Mexi-Cuban eatery in Hallandale. Food was fresh and tasty albeit unremarkable. I appreciate the accommodation to add fajitas to my shrimp quesadilla. Service was efficient with one gentleman running front of house early Saturday evening. Saw many locals come in for takeout. Has been around for a while and moved locations up the street recently. No full bar but they offer sangria, margarita and a small variety of cervezas. Affordable and a good value for the portion size. Plates do not come with pico or guacamole sadly. I walked in on a Saturday around 4pm and the place was pretty empty, one table of 8 ppl and one table of 2. There was one guy working in the front, he was pretty nice and attentive. I ordered churrasco, rice and beans, and sweet plantains. The steak was very well seasoned, this place is pretty consistent with the hood flavor that they provide. The rice and beans were good but nothing to write home about. The margarita was only ok, but I understand this is not a drinking spot so I'm ok with that. read more

One menu is Cuban food and the of the menu is Mexican food. My suggestion would be street taco should have two corn tortilla. In this humble plaza off the freeway in Ft Lauderdale is this fantastic place where the quality of the food will surprise and amaze you. The croquettes are dense, moist and flavorful and the chicken was amazing! My burrito was the kind of burrito you crave when you haven't had one in a while. Talked to the owner for a good while about sports and why we were visiting area. Problem with a place you fall in love with is not being able to give regular business to them on account of you be2500 miles away! I'd recommend to anyone living in the area! I think they thrive on "regulars" so if you're local, support this great small business with a cozy touch, like visiting someone's home. We were actually headed to a different Cuban Restaurant when we rode past Don Lolo's. Since we both love Mexican and Cuban food we thought we'd check them out on yelp for another time. After reading several reviews and nearing our destination, it sounded so good we decided to make a u-turn and go all the way back. We must say, the reviews were right. The food was excellent. Hubby had the Palmilla Steak (which I will definitely have next time). I had the Ropa Vieja which was tender and saucy. So great. It came with perfect white rice and amazing black beans. Hubby had perfectly crunch Tostones while I had super wonderful sweet plantains. We ended everything with a fantastic flan. Oh and it all started with one of our favorites... fresh salsa and chips. To be clear, the one-star rating I am giving Don Lolo's is for the aesthetic...it's ok on the inside. However, we are to rate food and service, and on both counts, Don Lolo's fails. First, I ordered a lentil soup that unapologetically never arrived - the waitress was upset that I asked after my missing soup....smh! Now, this spot is listed as a "Mexican/Cuban restaurant. Well, nope, that's not what it is at all. It's more a Mexican restaurant with some mexicanized Cuban sides. Like what Cuban restaurant does not serve arroz moro, and replaces it with Mexican yellow rice. Next, I ordered ropa vieja, or shredded beef...the beef was there but not the shred, at all. I got huge chunks of meet drowned in sauce, begging to be shredded. There is nothing worse than a sloppy restaurant, and Don Lolo's is exactly that, SLOPPY!!! It was shortly after 8 pm and we were on our way to try Señor Cafe, arrived at 8:30 but they close the kitchen 30 minutes before their 9 PM closing time. Back to the drawing board.... Don Lolo's was open until 10 pm, and only 7 minutes away. What a treat! There was one other table seated, seems to be a trend at late hours. The lighting was dimmer but comfortable, and overall very clean. Their food was so fresh!! I ordered the Palomilla steak, it was marinated and cooked to perfection. The Salsa did not taste like it came from a jar. The black beans and plantains were amazing. The rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy. I could easily become a regular if I lived locally. OMG!!!! This by far has been the best Cuban food I've ever had. I ordered the palomilla steak which was served with white rice, black beans, and sweet plantains while my brother opted for the breaded chicken breast which was also served with white rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. The steak was juicy and delicious but the breaded chicken breast was my favorite. It was seasoned and fried to perfection. I told myself I'll try to make the same meal and if it doesn't work out, I'll stop by Don Lolo's where I know it'll be done right. Our bill came out to be $43 and some change, very reasonable. I found this place while I was getting my oil changed. Walked in, it's small restaurant with couple round tables. I looked over and kitchen looked pretty tiny. Menu consisted of lil bit of everything. Thought it was lil pricy for such a small venue. I ordered steak chimmichurri sandwich with fries. It's a tiny little place maybe about 10 or 12 tables inside. They did not offer any discounted lunch specials which I was a little surprised about. I had the Ropa Veja. This is marinated beef that's been shredded in a tomato sauce with peppers and onions along with rice beans and plantings. It was quite good and I finished the whole thing.
