Stopped in for a 15 minute cupping session and a 15 minute back massage for two. Total cost without tip=50.00 The masseuse I had gave a half decent massage to say the least. Fealt rushed and no effort involved. Would have went to Xuyuan (excellent) around the corner but we wanted the cupping session. Let me add that the workers were not so professional in regards to repeatedly asking for their tip while breathing down our necks. Dropped in here with my husband while looking for a place to grab ice cream and thought, "hey, we can use a shoulder massage!" The lady standing in front of the place noticed that I had a baby bump, and she insisted that she knew how to do prenatal massages and had given many massages to pregnant women before. She was pretty convincing, so we thought we'd give it a try. My husband and I were in the same room separated by curtains. I was expecting the lady in the front that insisted on giving me a prenatal massage was the one who was going to massage me. To my surprise, it was someone completely different. I still took my chances but I was awfully let down. I opted for the 30 min back/30 min foot massage. The first 15 minutes was the masseuse softly rubbing my back on top of a towel. I told her my problem area was my lower back and to kindly massage there and she kept saying, "ok!" but would continue to massage on top of the towel. The next 15 min was hot stones with oil. This was not relaxing to say the least because there was NO PRESSURE applied. Again, I asked her to massage my lower back for the 3rd time (I had to direct her with my hands) and she finally understood. She applied minimal oil but again, no pressure applied. She continued to do this for 15 minutes and took away from my foot massage. I almost wanted to stop her mid massage and just leave. My foot massage was no better. She applied oil but the pressure very soft even though I told her, "harder". What made it worse was that I could feel her fingernails digging in my feet. UGH! First you are told to pay upfront first for services, places has musty smell to it and walls are thin you can hear everything. Ok massage but the ladies tend to resort to walking in your back rather than using hands or elbows to knead your tight areas. They immediately ask you to give 15 bucks as their tip. read more

I had booked a hot stone massage . The hot stone part lasted only 10 minutes out of the 60 minutes. My therapist was through in her massage but I felt more pain than relaxation. She also talked the entire time about nothing important. She also added to my discomfort by dressing provocatively. And when she put a hot towel on me it felt like a rag. When it was over I gave her 18% tip and she said that it wasn't enough. She said there was a minimal tip of 25% ... Wtf?! Needless to say I won't be coming back here . I spent a day out with my family in Chinatown just doing some shopping and browsing. I heard about the inexpensive and plentiful massage therapy places in Chinatown and decided to get one that day. I came across several massage locations and decided to try this one out because of its cheap prices and also because they advertised the hot stones and heated tables. $40 for 1 hour massage? I usually spend $80 for 1 hour across the river. So I definitely had to try it out. The guy in the front desk was very friendly and so was my massage therapist. My therapist talked to me for the initial 5-10 minutes of my massage, getting to know me, where I'm from etc, etc. I didn't mind the small talk, but it felt slightly awkward trying to speak when my face is smushed inside a small hole in the table. The massage itself was great - just the right amount of pressure, and she knew exactly what places needed more work on even without mentioning it (I have really bad muscular tension on the right side of my neck, shoulder, and upper back). The only reason why I give this place four stars was because the hot stones and towel were so hot I almost jumped out of the table! I mean eventually I got used to the warmth but for the first several seconds I tried so hard not to freak out. And I usually enjoy the hot stones and towel when I get a massage. So my first massage experience in Chinatown was generally good. I would also like to try the other surrounding massage places as well. Since I'm not from around the area and taking the PATH just for a massage is a hassle for me, I probably won't be a regular at this place. I got the $40 hour long back massage which is effectively like a sports/deep tissue as far as working out the kinks. Hard price to beat. Place is no frills, privacy curtains are thick so you don't see your neighbors. As far as the massage- the women have ungodly strength in their hands for their size, they asked about comfort/pressure level several times and largely professional- had timers, clean linens and towels. Then why 2 stars? After my massage, I planned on giving standard 15% tip but was strong-armed into handing over more- Apparently there is a $10 tip MINIMUM per hour!! which is outrageous due to the fact that 1. Either way, it was really relaxing, the massage is fantastic; she worked out my kinks and gave me a deep massage. The hot stones were really nice as well. From the minute I was led into the room the masseuse talked about how I had to pay a tip at the end and she continued to ramble on about how she doesn't get paid much throughout the massage. The massage was great but the woman wouldn't shut up until she got her tip at the end and she had horrible breath. She was very happy in the end with her tip, I think I left $10 which is standard. There was no rhyme or reason to the sequence of moves and the pressure. I almost got up the table 5 minutes into it and leave. I was here as a female and requested a female masseuse. Halfway through the massage, the masseuse changed without me knowing! I wanted a female masseuse because i did not want a male rubbing my body and legs including near my thighs and ass. however, they did not care and i had a male masseuse touch my body without me knowing. All I have to say is NO. Got a couples massage. My partner was in the "room" next to me, whats the point in booking a couples massage if you aren't even in the same area?! My husbands masseuse was doing acrobats on his back, he said it was the worst massage he'd ever gotten in his life. A massage should be relaxing and the rate at which she was moving her hands on me it was like she was in a race. The place was so disgusting and dirty. THEN to top it all off, I tipped 20% and was blocked from leaving because I didn't tip 25%. First of all, the experience was HORRIBLE. I'll say right off that it's clear that it all depends on who gives you your massage as far as what you'll rate the place. The five stars are for Vicki. She was attentive to my particular sore spots and checked on the pressure she was using frequently. She seems to just have a sense of what's needed and had a very pleasant way about her. There's no shortage of massage places in Chinatown. I've been to a couple others. I'd normally be put off by a downstairs place with the signs on the railing, etc. But, there was a good deal on Groupon and my back and hip were killing me. I got a same-day appointment. The person who answered the phone was very cordial and spoke English very well (this can often be a problem as my Chinese is sorely lacking!) I couldn't have been more pleased with the entire experience. I believe the other reviewers, but I just have to report that there was no talk about a minimum tip or about how underpaid my masseuse was. I wish I could give zero stars. Please don't ever give this business your money. First, the white haired man who gave me the massage was the most misogynistic and condescending person I've ever encountered. His response to my multiple requests to lessen the pressure was a snide comment about how I was "overly sensitive" and that he was "barely using any pressure" (all spoken in Mandarin). This prompted me to inform him in Mandarin that he was causing me pain. He expressed shock that I happen to be Chinese and continued to ignore my requests while chiding me. The discovery of our shared culture led him to assume authority over what was "best for me," telling me I "must not move very much because [ I ] am so overly sensitive." He continued to provide his gratuitous life advice, telling me to "wake up earlier in the morning so [ I ] can go out for walks every day". After giving a reason why my muscles were so tight, I expected a compassionate response. Instead it prompted him to provide a monologue about how I am "trying too hard in life and should except life as it comes...the things [ I ] seek don't actually belong to me (I have no idea what that means) and [ I ] should stop pursuing [my] goals". I was forced to listen to all of this while wincing in pain. To top it all off, while I was walking out, I decided to provide a minimal tip (he did provide a service to me). However, I was berated by the receptionist as she pointed to a hand written sign taped to the table that stated that I "needed" to provide a $10 tip per person (that was three dollars more than 20 percent). I stood there telling her I didn't want to break my cash for change. She proceeded to say I could use my credit card for the tip tax free. After standing in the chaos and confusion with my partner for a while, I caved in and handed her $20 in cash. I walked out flustered and then it dawned on me that I was coerced into giving them more money. I was fuming. Thankfully, groupon was kind enough to provide me a refund for that horrifying experience. Also, the towels were crusty and disgusting. Please don't subject yourself to such torture. read more

This is the WORSE place ever.... from the time you walk in to the time you leave... went there for a hot stone couples massage...it was in a box that was separated with curtains... we begin the massage the two girls spoke to each other the whole time even when we told them to please be quiet.... one girl even answered her phone and had a whole conversation... the massage was horrible and they only used the hot stone for 2minutes... at the end they kept opening the curtains saying you finish while we were still getting dressed... they even started cleaning the tables while we were still in there so we went in the waiting area to finish putting on our coats .... the girls than proceed to stop cleaning the tables to follow us out just to chase us for tips which we had all intentions on given after we got ourselves together... all of this and my back is sore from this horrible massage...this place needs to be burned read more
