There are a LOT of massage places in Chinatown boasting a dollar a minute or less -- hard to determine which will actually be the "good" one... well look no further! I write this review to let the world know how incredible Tony, the Chinese Massage Master as referred to as on his business card, and his amazing female masseuse, Lucy is at the risk of them getting more popular and not having enough time for me lol. I found Tony a year ago, when a girlfriend of mine introduced me to his son's massage business just down the street (also very good!) also in the basement. There were three of us and we needed three therapists and I was stationed with Tony. We all wanted a massage and she had been to this place once before and said it was fabulous for the $, I was very skeptical and was just hoping it would be OK. For $40 for an hour I said why not. I am SO thankful I did, I have been going back to Tony now consistently twice a month on average except for traveling and I would say my constant knot in my neck that I got from sitting at a desk and the sciatic nerve pain that was getting progressively worse have diminished by at least 60-70%. De Yee Herb center is a no fuss, no muss, no frills place. You can say you "get what you pay for," but you actually get MUCH more than that. yes, sometimes the phone rings and Tony answers it during your massage, yes, the place is down a set of very steep weird looking stairs. The rooms are clean, Tony and Lucy remember your body - they really are masters - and know how to help heal you. Tony was a sports therapist in China for basketball, soccer, and all sorts of professional teams. When he moved here roughly 15 years ago he opened up his own business. He will tell you all about it if you ask. He has customers that have been coming to him since he opened up his shop, of all age groups and walks of life. Consistency says a lot! Tony rides the subway over an hour each way to open his business, he is VERY good at what he does and is very dedicated. If you want to come with friends, he will call his son and find out if his son or one of the other therapists there are able to come over so there isn't a shortage of therapists. It is also a strictly business place, so don't try any funny business with his female masseuse, she is a god send! Beyond being incredibly gifted with their hands, De Yee Herb center is a place you can feel good about being a supporting patron. I've referred a lot of friends to Tony and Lucy who are also so thankful that they have found them and say it's been the best massage work they've ever received - note it is WORK and they work hard. Tip them well! (I always give $60 for an hour massage and between $90-100 for an hour and a half massage.) They make it affordable to get the kind of work that you need in order to help heal your body - not like going to a fancy spa and getting a $200 sweedish massage at all. If the pressure is too hard for you let them know, they will always adjust. The more you go to them, the more they memorize the pressure and problem areas and you will notice a difference!!! PLEASE note do not go there with expectations of this being a spa experience, but this is hands down THE best Chinatown massage for this price in the entire city, Tony, Lucy and Tony's son Lei (i might have misspelled) are unknown treasures that would cost a lot more if they were in a spa with that kind of atmosphere. oh - I also recommend calling before you want to go just to make sure they have availability.
