My first time coming to this place and last. Very disappointed not the food but the fact that this place the day I decide to go they don't have the cc machine working. The waiter could have told us before we were offered to sit down and order food. Like I even told the waiter this was very inconvenient since we had to go and pull cash from a store or an atm. I will say the offerings are pretty typical for a Chinese joint, but the quality was a big plus! I have found hot and sour soup to be a losing bet at most places, but here it was really excellent. The general Tao's was of better quality too. Not a fan of Jalapenos in my Chinese food, but I did ask for extra spicy. The guy who took my order got my order wrong and this laughed at me and went back and forth with me for 10 minutes about how it was my fault when I know for a fact what I ordered. It's the summer and as we all know Houston is getting hotter every year. Looked for places to get something refreshing and found this awesome place. They have so many smoothies flavors and drinks to cool down. Tried the passion fruit smoothie and it was awesome. Plus I got the chance to meet owners and they were super nice and friendly. I've never eaten AT the restaurant but have ordered it through GrubHub so many times I can't count. WanFu is my FAVORITE Chinese food by far! I almost always get the fried Tofu, best I've ever had and vegetable fried rice. It has great tasting fresh vegetables. I always get my rice without egg and mushrooms and it isn't a problem because unlike most places it is fresh to order! The delivery is usually quick, a couple of times the driver couldn't find our apartment but it's not the easiest to find, both times they've been extremely apologetic and the food is still hot so no worries! This is an awesome addition to the area! I went in for the first time last night and got a kint chocolate slush and General Tso's Chicken with fried rice. The mint chocolate slush was awesome. It was super rich and not too icy like it can be when made in a similar way. The fried rice was prefect. It was light and flavorful, savory but not at all greasy. The General Tso's Chicken was interesting at first as they included sliced jalapeños for a little kick, but it made me realize that I have been missing sliced jalapeños in my General Tso's 5all this time. Since it was Chinese New Year's Eve, the family was all there rushing around preparing a big dinner, and everybody was incredibly nice and wished me Happy New Year on the way in and out. I called to check the status and the young man tells me they are super busy because there's only 1 delivery driver. The other delivery driver blew his tire. Okay, I'll try to be understanding to that. So I say if my food has been just sitting there, it will not be fresh. He proceeds to tell me they haven't even cooked it yet!! Had the shrimp fried rice and it was probably a 3.5 out of 5. Shrimp was a bit overcooked but rice was tasty. Hubby had chicken lo mein. Probably about a 3.5 as well. This was a last resort for my hubby and I at a hotel one weekend. They delivered and came to our room so I didn't have to go to the front desk. Really not trying to be a bitch with the one star. I found this place through GrubHub and it had good reviews on Yelp AND GrubHub so I went for it. I ordered at 5:58 pm and got my food at 7:46. I think that's more than excessive for delivery wait time. So naturally the food was not hot, barely even warm really. I got sweet and sour chicken--really nothing special. I also got the wonton soup because it was popular in reviews. Yuck! It was bland and tasted like it had been out for awhile. Like, ew. My mother-in-law got shrimp lo mein (not even lo mein noodles, they used linguine noodles!! ummmm....wtf?) and she also ordered shrimp and vegetables. there wasn't much to her dish. She said it tasted fine but there was seriously not much veggie composition or anything special to either of her dishes. And the egg rolls are more like spring rolls. Seriously, the fact that it took nearly 2 hours for the food to be delivered was almost enough for me to never order from here again, but the fact that the food fell flat really hammered the nail in the coffin. Will never order from here again! Just order from Wanfu Café based on the great reviews we saw, however it did not meet expectations. We ordered very simple dishes: Beef Lo Mein (Extra Extra Spicy), Mongolian Beef (Extra Extra Spicy), and Fried Chicken Dumpling. The Lo Mein was nothing to rave about and was not spicy as we had requested, the only good thing about the Lo Mein was that it was not oily, so good job on that. The Mongolian Beef tasted like it came out of the microwave and although I had asked for it to be spicy it was not! It did however contain copious amounts of onions which was 2/3 of the container (yes I did separate it and measure). The Dumplings were not bad, they actually tasted like they were made in house and were fresh, Great job! In short its 5 min from the house and is a last place I would stop. I would go back for Dumplings and that's about it. Everything else taste like it came out of a can or box. read more
