Enter COVID-19 and I saw on Instagram that their sales were down 75% due to the pandemic. I figured now was the perfect time to finally support this local bookstore. You can place your order online and they offer free proch drop off within a certain radius. I emailed in to the owner, Christine, asking for recommendations for my son who is obsessed with trucks and animals. She came back with a wonderful personalized list of books for him-- many of them I hadn't heard of before! She takes the time to make sure the list fits your child's interests and age. I will say that I added all of the books to my Amazon cart to see what the price difference would be. I purchased four books and the total was only $5 cheaper on Amazon. For only $5 more I was able to support a small biz in my community, receive a personalized recommendation list for my son, and get it dropped off right at my door.

It's a great atmosphere for children with tons of diverse, interactive books. The staff are so friendly and just add it the welcoming spirit here. The books inside are individually priced, while the books outside are discounted to 10 or 25 cents based on which side it is on. I could have spent hours there. After selecting way too many books, I took them up to the counter to check out. As the friendly employee rang up the books, we chatted about D&D. Hardcover and paperbacks were sometimes mixed together, as were the various genre, except for a few categories. It didn't really seem like an alpha-by-author sorting either. Even though the owner asked what type of books I liked to read, apparently understanding the layout and misunderstanding my meandering, I declined her help. I declined because I didn't really have a particular type of book in mind, but mostly because I usually find some real gems in layouts like CoffeeHound. It's like a super-mini Barnes and Noble, but with used books. The coffee bar is in the back corner, with reasonably priced coffee drinks. There's a large chair and a couple of small tables here so when you find a book, you can kick back, drink your coffee and enjoy the leisurely life.

The whole store is devoted to books with a few convenience store items thrown in. The prices are your standard book store prices and they have all the latest releases. They also do have a pretty decent sale selection of bargain books. The titles aren't new releases, but they aren't ancient either, it ends up being a pretty good deal if you find something you like. I always like to browse here when I have extra time before my flight. They also have a display of Papyrus cards which has saved me more than once when I'm on my way to a wedding or for a birthday and I didn't have time to pickup a card before I left. Recommend checking them out when you have extra time at RDU Terminal 2!

The staff is friendly, the book selection is diverse and plentiful + there are customer review/comment cards on multiple books within the store. It's nice to read reviews from other book lovers. Flyleaf also has a number of events every month. I recently attended the Penguin Publisher event. Snacks and drinks were available to those that attended the event and there was a raffle at the end. The event was informative and full of book recs from the Penguin Publisher sales team. Flyleaf is legit! I'll be sure to add this location to one of my favorite bookstores in the Chapel Hill area.

I guess that's where the name "The Doodling Bug" makes sense. The Doodling Bug is a tiny shop of creative, tangible doodles by NC locals. The home decor things like hand painted signs are equal parts funny and serious; the t-shirts celebrate NC; the hand-knit hats, scarves, slippers and baby sweaters, are cute and soft. There's a limited selection of jewelry, a nice change of pace from other like stores; and the body lotions and scrubs are in not-so-common scents. The chalkboard, which I didn't see right away buried as it was amongst all the other wall art, is a nice gift for celebrating doodling -- classic style. The Doodling Bug is a good stop if finding a gift from local creative people is a gift preference for you.

I followed up on 5/6, 5/9, and 5/15 about my books via email and Facebook message. I have received nothing. Terrible customer service and completely not responsive.
