Creating a cheeseboard is like a work of art, you want people to say, " It is too pretty to eat." Those are the words of Luiza Holland of Wanderlust Boards. We opened our wine and began to create our work of art. The first items on our board were small containers of olive tamponade dip and fig jam. Then, we cut triangular shapes of manchengo cheese and added slices of Brie cheese, one of my personal favorites. We added square slices of extra sharp cheddar cheese and crumbles of Gorgonzola cheese. Next, we fanned our prosciutto ham and made cute little fans of our salami. " Give life to the board, use different colors and shapes", said Luiza. We cut small bundles of grapes and added them to our plate. Then, we added blueberries, blackberries, and thinly sliced apple. Our work of art was coming to life. Olives were positioned next to the cheese. Then, we added artisan crackers. One had rosemary and the other cracker was a garlic cracker. Don't forget to add the pistachio nuts and garnish with fresh herbs. We used rosemary last night. It looked amazing and delicious. Luiza recommended shopping for ingredients at Wegman's, Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods shopping stores. She creates boards that are vegan or she will cater to specialty boards. Plenty of everything and something to please everyone at a price that beats getting everything on my own. The process was easy and painless, and they prewrapped everything individually due to COVID. Super nice people providing a great service to make parties and events easy! The owner is truly an artist, who normally sells the assembled charcuterie boards fully made and beautifully arranged. What an innovative business idea! I was introduced to this company due to a recent Virtual Yelp Event surround around learning how to make your own Charcuterie board. Normally you would purchase a finished (and absolutely stunning) board, but for this event we bought a kit with all the ingredients and then Luiza, the company owner, gave us assembly tips during a virtual class. She was a great teacher with amazing tips! I couldn't believe how pretty my board turned out. The ordering process for the kit was super easy. I just filled out a Google form and paid via Venmo. I was super excited when I saw Venmo was a payment option! Then we had a specific time to meet and pick up the kit in Greensboro. Safety precautions and social distancing were practiced at pick up and I appreciated that all the ingredient items were individually wrapped. Included was manchego, brie, sharp cheddar, prosciutto, salami, nuts, apple, grapes, blueberries, crackers, olives, dried apricots, fig jam, and cookies. Yum! I imagine ordering a regular board would be a similar process to this. Wanderlust Boards also had a contest on Instagram for a free kit and I was the lucky sweepstakes winner. I never win stuff so was very excited. I ended up giving the kit I paid for to a friend who also wanted to participate in the Virtual Yelp event. I still plan to order a finished board from her at some point as she is the master. They also have all types of boards available, some which would be beyond my personal skill level. I got my eyes on one of them Brunch boards! Check out her offerings, I feel there is something for everyone. I got to try a Wanderlust board (box in this case) with my cousin for ghouls night out at summer field farms. The presentation was so cute and I loved all the options available in the box. The owner is so sweet and and very creative with her board and box creations. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Luisa was a pure joy to deal with! In ordering my board for a virtual event, I had a food allergy and noted it in my order. She quickly reached out and assured me that I had nothing to worry about. When we met so I could pick up my board and kit, she explained everything and then informed me there were instructions inside just incase I forgot what she told me. I received this board as a gift and unbeknownst to the giver I am obsessed with both charcuterie and this company! So impressed by her attention to detail! The board came in a box with a flower and eucalyptus on top!!! So cute! The crackers were in a separate container as well. Obvi the board was delish. Be careful because they mislead!! Luiza's cheese tables are really beautiful and well-presented. However, we requested food for 40 people and the agreement was to deliver heavy appetizers, she reassured us multiple times that they were indeed heavy appetizers and there would be enough food. We trusted her given the price tag of $1500. Once the table was set 2 hours before the party, we quickly realized that there was not going to be enough protein and we had to improvise and get heavier appetizers which made our celebration very stressful. Her explanation after the party was that she calculates 3 oz of cheese and 2 oz of meat per person and that is considered a heavy appetizer. The table had too many fruits to garnish and the flowers were clearly reused. Moreover, we learned after the party that they charge for 6 hours of preparation plus 3 hours of shopping plus the setup and a separate fee for picking up their serving dishes (very minor, during the pick up they took my own dishes and let us know for US TO PICK THE UP! instead of them acknowledging their mistake and return them!) The major problem for us was not so much the price of the board, is the fact that she mislead us to believe that she was going to serve "heavy appetizers". Among her excuses was that she cannot control how much people eat at parties and whether they had dinner before. If you want to hire her, as all the correct questions, get specific details (in ounces!), and ask exactly what she will be serving to avoid a disappointment like ours.
