Purpose of my visit: Celebration of Life of my high school PE teacher in the Fireside Room. It was a nice gathering of former students from Oakland Tech and Oakland High, friends and family of Marvelous Marva Nielsen aka Mrs. E. Although I did not take a tour of this gated community, and it is well-maintained, the area seems to be a peaceful one. Marva was the "longest serving golf marshall, serving about 14 years" in that capacity. She took care of the golfers and the golf courses. I know she will be missed by the people who live in this community.

We joined the list for prospective residents at The Glen at Heather Farms a couple of years ago…read more Since that time I've called their office on a few occasions and have always received prompt, courteous and straightforward answers to my questions. I attended a tour of the Pleasanton facility and besides being impressed with the facility itself, the presentation was excellent. My husband and I attended our "informational brunch" in November and again had a very positive experience. Lots of information, presented concisely and any and all questions were answered in a straightforward manner. There's nothing hard sell/ pushy about these presentations. Following that brunch we met with our residency counselor to figure out what next steps would best suit our situation. She has been excellent! Very patient in answering our questions, showing us the various unit floor plans and discussing our options. She's very knowledgeable about the entire process, of course, but she also understands that making the decision to move into this type of residence represents a significant change for most people and is both empathetic and encouraging. To summarize, our experience to date with The Glen at Heather Farms has been very positive.

My husband and I were on the list from the beginning for Diablo Glen/Glen at Heather Farms. We…read moreattended many of those early meetings very excited about the future prospect of this CCRC community. As time moved forward I became concerned about how this community was being advertised to the public, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). The concept is wonderful, but at one of the very large meetings a few years back, while people were asking about when they could pick out there houses etc., I was the only person who asked when the Wellness Center was going to be built which would included Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living and Memory Care. The answer I received was disappointing. Not until after residents moved into the community would the Wellness Center be built. My next question was to ask what would then happen if my spouse or myself needed the extra care a Continuing Care Retirement Community is suppose to provide for us, but is not available? Would one of us then have to find a place for that care outside of Glen at Heather Farms? And if so, how is Glen at Heather Farms a continuing care community if the Wellness Center is not on site yet? I had read that the Center would not be built until about 2 years after residents had moved into the community. Also, if as a couple one of you is in good health, while the other may have health issues, you will not be able to become a resident of Glen at Heather Farms as a couple. You must have a clean bill of health from your doctor. I know of one person who was interested in moving to Glen at Heather Farms with friends. Because that person had some health issues, he had to look elsewhere. Fortunately, he found another CCRC community in Walnut Creek close by and is thrilled being there. I also checked out this other community a number of years ago and they had no problem with residents with health issues moving in. Please have other options available to you, When your time comes to move you won't be disappointed if your health issues are a "no go" to becoming a resident at Glen at Heather Farms. Tiffany Court is a wonderful place, and it gave our family great peace of mind knowing she was so well cared for. What makes Tiffany Court special is how genuinely the residents are treated like family. Patti does an incredible job staying closely involved with every resident and keeping family members informed and updated. Her dedication and compassion are remarkable. The staff is outstanding. Enrique always went out of his way to accommodate our family member's many special food requests with kindness and patience. Marie, although she works in the business office, consistently went above and beyond to help and support our family member as well. We are deeply grateful to the entire Tiffany Court team for the care, compassion, and support they provided over the years.

I can't say enough great things about The Heritage Downtown. I helped my aunt move there nearly six…read moreyears ago and she really could not be happier. The entire staff is super friendly and attentive, and as others on Yelp! have noted, the facility and grounds are beautiful and meticulously cared for. My aunt has a sunny top-floor apartment that is large and has mountain views. Other apartments we toured had patios with lovely garden views or other amenities. When we toured independent living communities what struck us most is how institutional so many feel. Not The Heritage. All of the common areas are beautifully furnished/carpeted or landscaped and, as my aunt loves that the restaurant uses real tablecloths and cloth napkins (she also really appreciates that Newton's, the restaurant, has set dining hours, which means there are always lots of people sit with and talk to). Lastly, as the relative who lives closest and helps manage her affairs, the front desk staff have been excellent at letting me know when my aunt has required medical assistance or if there's a matter they think I might be able to assist her with. She's recently begun to need some regular in-home assistance and the management team has a home care provider they contract with and have been very helpful getting the right level of assistance set up. Bottom line: The Heritage has consistently offered five-star service and accommodation for the six years my aunt has lived there.

Our chef now is terrific! He is always available to talk with you. He publishes suggestions and questions, and responses. Then all these are posted for all to read. If you don't like a something you can send it back. There are cards on every table for complaints and suggestions. We all love the food. Our grounds are lovely - there are multiple windows in every public room. There are many models to choose from - all well equipped, with a wide range of prices. We are part of the Rossmoor senior living community, so there are over 200 clubs, golf courses, movies, and top notch entertainment. Walnut Creek is one of the top shopping venues in the Bay Area, and known for culture and top restaurants!

There is No independent living Option available as Web suggests, and really only option is to either do child like activities or stay on room. Living room reserved for residents sleeping all day. No-one and nothing else is allowed. Have tried to use for quietly getting out. of room, but all seats and couches are occupied by sleeping residents. Have no recourse but to stay in approximately 500 sq ft room. this has been a nightmare!!!! If you still want to LIVE and not thru children's lives, this is not the place. Just hope this keeps others from making mistake that I made.

When my dad passed, my mom moved to another beautiful apartment and continued to thrive. She loves to play daily games (bingo and rummikub) and share meals and social gatherings with her close friends. In the rare cases that she needed extra assistance medically, the staff was attentive, kind and caring and they communicated well with me. The activity directors have been wonderful and creative, making everyday life fun and active for the residents. We've also enjoyed and developed relationships with many of the staff members.

Throughout her time at Merrill Gardens, she experienced nothing but amazing care and attention, wonderful relationships with other residents and staff, and a comfortable apartment and vibrant lifestyle.
