The Costco lady did the centering of my eyes on the new frames but when I picked them up, the focus was bad. So back I went to Brinton. Another exam and a slight adjustment. Back to Costco and they replaced the lens gratis. However, it still was not working so I went back to Costco and had the ladies check whether my eyes were properly centered and...no, the measurement was off, so Costco replaced the lens again, at no cost. Brinton put me on to that and I am very appreciative that he did, and had taken the time do do all the eye checking to get it right. Very nice operation.

This took forever. They then sat me down for the vision test. It's done via video call with someone not even there. It took forever to get her on and there was a bit of a language barrier. I just hoped for the best that she got my prescription correct. After I got home, I realized I was overcharged. I was told I would get a call back and never did, I emailed and they tried to explain why I wasn't overcharged but it makes no sense which makes me think I was scammed. I even reached out to corporate with no luck. The glasses are fine but the deals you see online are misleading and I spent so much more than expected.

I had cataract surgery last March which corrected my distance vision. The downside is that I now require readers. In addition, for my part-time job, I work on a computer in a public place so I need bi-focals. Unfortunately, I lost one of the lenses and the frames are damaged. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment. I was there early for my time. I filled out some paperwork and was ready to go when Dr Brook Vastis called me in. We talked about my transition to her practice and my vision needs. Mainly to get an exam to provide to my PCP, replacement bi-focal lenses and frames. The office environment is professional and functional. The Reception process was smooth and easy. While I was waiting I noticed there were two ladies that were talking to patients about their frame selections. They have a lot of premium choices, Maui Jim, Lilly Pulitzer, State Optical, Barton Perreira, Lafont of Paris,Ernia O of Barcelona, Silhouette, Ovo Optics, Modo, Morel and Kate Spade to name a few. I met with a lady named Jessie to talk about selecting frames and lenses and completing my order. She was very professional, friendly and helpful. I was pleased my insurance covered a large percentage of the overall costs. While changing medical providers can sometimes be anxious and stressful, this was not one of them.

I came across Dr. Smith and read the reviews by previous patients and saw that there 58 reviews and all were 5 stars. I said, I have to see this doctor. Come to find out, she was at Target and right around the corner from me. No more driving across town. She was everything the reviewers said she was. Kind, courteous, patient, listened intently to what my needs were, funny and most of all, just did an excellent job with the eye exam. I knew my glasses would be superb, because you can tell when when you receive a service it's going to be great because of the "feeling" you get about the overall experience. Even scheduling the exam online was easy. Kudos to Trip, her assistant. He's awesome in every respect. He's extremely thorough and follows up as needed. Here's the issues: 1) Off-putting and excessive security for an optometrist office, 2) Electronic Health Records system questionnaire that doesn't value the patient's time, 3) Incompetent office staff (scheduling appointments within insurance parameters). There are other optometrist offices that provide better customer service. For more specifics: To start, greeting clients with a locked door. I know that it is the 21st century. Certain neighborhoods can be rough. Is Blakeney or Weddington a high crime area? I don't think so. So, why is it necessary to have everything but a retinal scan to get into the office space? So you had someone come in and grab some frames - once (Oakley frames cost about $15/pair to manufacture, you may pay $100/pair). Stop treating the vast majority of people as if they are going to repeatedly violate the security of your business. Between your profit margins and your insurance, you can handle the shrink. Next, let's address the Electronic Health Records system (EHR) that is designed to consume mass quantities of patient time asking questions that are sometimes patently ridiculous. Men cannot get pregnant, this is basic biology. In a digitally active online form in the 21st century, why after acknowledging that I am a man would a form ask me if I'm pregnant (this is a "sex" question, not a "gender" debate)? No reason other than wasting time/energy. Why would such a system not retain information from prior visits and simply ask for changes and updates to previously reported information? Its not a HIPAA thing. Is it because you don't value the client's time? So, you really are going to ask me to fill out this complete multi-page form again for another appointment next week - really!? Finally, lets talk about the importance of scheduling appointments that acknowledges the world of health insurance that we live in and that funds the very existence of the modern optometrist office. When a client completes an appointment and the optometrist tells the person at the front desk to set them up for their annual appointment, it is not a stretch to think that part of the scheduling algorithm would be to include insurance requirements for the ANNUAL check-up. So, imagine my disappointment, when I show up after completing the forms, working my way through security, and the front desk staff asks, "So, you're going to be paying for this visit out of your pocket?" No, I pay a monthly premium so I don't have to. Now, to make it worse, I have addressed these same issues - in writing - to the company at least 2 years ago. They haven't done anything to change them. This optometry office needs significant improvement.

She gave me the run around, did nothing to resolve the issue or offer to compensate me for the inconvenience. The glasses finally came in, but no one called to notify me.
