Definitely not my favorite vision center/eyeglass provider in the world.
First off, their eyeglass selection is limited. But i guess i shouldn't have expected much considering it's inside of Wal-Mart. They have some OK deals on some clearance frames and they have some sort of annual contact lens sale which is nice. But the selection of frames--especially if you like upscale brands and whatnot--is lame. (Coach, Prada, Guess, Gucci, etc). I guess kids would be happy with the selection only because kids aren't picky and would probably like the first thing they saw.
Second, i had a very irritable issue with them last month regarding some frames i was interested in. Mind you, i did my homework before i went there to make sure they didn't try to screw me over with their pricing (which they did) by calling my insurance to verify what was covered, what wasnt, and how much certain features would cost. The clerk there tried to tell me that wal-mart charged for polycarbonate lenses PER LENS (who DOES that??!) and that my insurance wouldnt cover the dollar amt that they said they would. I even had my benefits list printed out for her (printed that very same morning) and she told me that i cant go by that list because the benefits are always changing. The benefits information changed within 2 hours? I don't think so, lady. After going back and forth with her and seeing that she wouldnt relent, i left in a huff. I called my insurance when i stepped outside to verify that i wasnt going crazy, and the rep on the phone once again verified my coverage and that wal-mart was trying to bill me incorrectly. I returned to the vision center, approached the clerk and her manager, and explained that i had my insurance rep on the phone and that she was willing to talk to them to correct the error on the vision center's part. The clerk was highly irritated and seemed very bothered with my return, but i really wanted the lenses i was looking at (i actually found ONE PAIR i liked) and didnt want to leave without them that day! The manager ended up talking to my insurance rep and the whole mess still wasnt solved and they were going back and forth on who was right and who was wrong, wasting my time as well as the clerk's. In the end, the manager told me "we'll have to get back with you tomorrow after we straighten this whole thing out" and took down my phone number. That was a month ago and still no word from the manager. Let's just say i wont be back there to purchase eyeglasses, period.
Their contact lens process is simple. Give them the prescription, they input it in their system, they order the contacts (only necessary if they dont have your prescription already in-stock, like for stronger lenses/prescriptions like mine), you pay for them, they call you back when they're ready (never more than a week). and you go pick them up. Simple as that.
The actual vision center is always clean and well-organized, along with having pretty decent hours for those that are off work at 5 or 6. They're open into the evening. So that's pretty convenient. The place isnt terrible, but their customer service and up-to-date info regarding insurances is flaky and really inconvenient. You will get SCREWED if you dont know what your insurance does and doesnt cover. And they WILL argue with you even if you have your benefits right in front of their faces. Be sure to do your homework, people. read more
