I love the staff and experience here at Fig Garden Optometry!! Dr. Goebel is great! I came from a smaller practice and they have several additional pre exam tests they do to make sure the entire health of your eyes is optimal. It seems like a lot but I've never felt uncomfortable in any of them. And they move you through them quickly. The office is always tidy and clean. And there's never a huge wait up front. Maybe a couple people at the most. It's hard when doctors overbook and you have so many folks waiting, but not here! Great selection of eyewear. I can always find glasses and sunglasses. The gal who helps you in this area will tell you about any deals too! Pick up is quick and easy too. Recommended my husband to give them a try here too as his optometrist just retired. I am a new patient establishing care. It has been quite a while that I received a thorough eye exam. Fig Garden Optometry is a great location that will make you feel warm and welcomed. The staff here are all very nice and patient. They are excellent at communicating with you especially with all of the different exam tests you are required to do. I honestly never had to do so many eye exams before, but I appreciated the thoroughness. Dr. Liao was the optometriest who assessed me and took care of my exam. I came here for contact lens exam, as well as, my eyeglass prescription. She is very kind, knowledgeable, and thorough! She is very personable and takes the nerves away. Another year and another great experience here at Fig Garden Optometry. I love that they are on time and are mindful of yours. Appt with Eye dilation is about an hour and 15 min. I didn't get glasses this time so it would take 15 min longer if I was ordering a pair. The staff are so friendly and will adjust your glasses if you need it. Great place for an eye exam; not-so-great place for their frames and lenses. It was time for my annual eye exam, and for the first time in my life I had to finally get prescription glasses. The technician that actually took the images of my eyes was very gentle and friendly, and the optometrist was very friendly, kind, and did an amazing job with explaining everything me. When it came time for me to fill my prescription and select frames, I was blown away by the high cost of the frames. I ended up going somewhere else to get the frames, but I will definitely be going back for my next annual to get my eyes checked! read more

Sloppy outfit. DO NOT USE. Called as I had broken glasses needing urgent appointment for a prescription as you can't get glasses or contacts without. Unfortunately they had no appointments. This is understandable. However, upon asking for a "Referal for another location", they said they had none. That is not acceptable! Wow! Had a pair of prescription glasses done at fig garden, love them great glasses great service, however just our a scratch in my lense not in the bifocal portion of the lense just on the lense itself. Called to see if I could get them buffed or polished out. Apparently they don't do that kind of thing. Of course my warranty wndes 6 months ago. So, I was told there's nothing they could do but if I wanted to buy a new pair they would be more than happy to sell me a new pair. I asked what about the pair I just scratched to which she said well you can get a new pair with or without your insurance which ever I wanted to do. I'm only putting a 4 star because overall its a good place to come as your first time the staff and the optometrist has been very nice and knowledgeable the only down side I've had there prices can be up there depending if its your first eye exam and what kind of glasses you get I paid out of pocket $280 and that's with my work insurance . A month later I needed to get my glasses lens replaced and McKenzie assisted and was very helpful and answer my questions without me having to speak with someone else ! This was my first visit. My 3 year old grandson needed new glasses. We already had a prescription. I did not want to wait for an hour to be seen. I read the reviews at different optical stores and decided to try Fig Garden Optometry. I was greeted at the door. While the information form was being filled out my grandson was taken back for fitting. The optician tech was very professional, polite, and pleasant. A frame was selected. The order was placed. We were done within 30 minutes. Grandson was happy. Though the glasses are expensive, the price was less than his previous glasses and the service was much better. I will keep coming back. read more

My husband and I both wear contacts and glasses, so it worked for both of us. They take my insurance, it's always been easy to book appointments and they have stylish glasses and sunglasses. Also I love my disposable contacts. I have had dry eyes and Dr Krohn suggested instead of monthly contacts to do daily and I LOVE them! They are soo easy and convenient and I wish I had done this a long time ago. My first visit will be my last visit. I was also giving a scan then charged because it was an "additional" unnecessary test that was not covered with the cost of the exam, I don't appreciate being blindsided. Also I have prisms in my glasses, which the doctor did not even check the strength or test me for to see if the strength needed to be adjusted, before writing a new prescription. He just guessed at the strength of the prisms for the new glasses (which he just tweaked). I looked at the prescription and I knew the prisms were not correct so I did not bother to go back or get the lenses made. I am not going to pay hundreds of dollars for an incorrect prescription that was just "tweaked". Or go somewhere that blind sides me with additional cost for test when I am not told up front. The girl had me go test to test rather quickly with little explanation regarding each test. I think this is done on purpose, so of course you think the scan is part of the initial exam when it's not. Sneaky and underhanded. Warning, if you go there, don't let them rush you through each test, be sure to stop and ask if each test is included in the exam, or like me, you get an additional charge when you go to pay, that was the only time I was told the scan was not included and charged extra. Other places I have been are honest and will tell you upfront before the test, there is an extra fee if you want it done. Not here....buyer beware read more

I have had a terrible experience with optometry DR's not spending enough time with you and run you through in my opinion to see as many as they can and having to return because your RX isn't correct & have intermediate progressive for my computer and progressive I am a FAN of Crizal lenses. I agree with the review about the retina scan. The officw was having me do this scan without asking if I was ok with paying for an unnecessary test that is NOT covered. I was taken to the room to have the scan along with the other tests they do before the doctor sees you and I happened to ask if it was covered. The response I got from his staff was that now the doctor is making his patients have the scan (before for years it was optional) and that it was not covered by any insurance. I hadn't even been examined by the doctor yet to see if I needed the scan to address any concerns he saw during the exam. Very unusual for a doctor to force patient's to pay him for a scan deemed as unnecessary by the insurance, and why isn't it covered? I called the insurance and they said the optometry board does not see it as a part of standard care and is an optional scan mainly for patients who have certain age and health conditions which put them at a higher risk for eye disease. I am writing this review to inform everyone of this new scam. The freedom to accept or refuse recommended medical treatment and tests has legal as well as ethical foundations. This doctor paid for the machine and now is covering its costs with a scam veiled as "exceptional patient care". No other optometry office I contacted force this! Be careful! Update: In response to the doctor's comment. I hope everyone reads my review and the doctor's response and decide for themselves if this doctor is right for them. Doctor I kindly encourage you to keep offering "above and beyond" options, but consider not trying to force your patients to get this scan with " it's not covered, but if you don't get it you will have to find another office, I've made it mandatory for every patient starting this year". I explained I didn't know anything about this scan and would like to look into it and decide if it was something I wanted to pay for (75$ at the time). He smirks in a demeaning manner stating if I decided I didn't want the scan I should find another office. Ethical? Professional? You decide. read more

Absolutely the best optometric practice in Fresno. Dr. Kristin Cole was our first eye dr for our tiny daughter 30 years ago when we thought she couldn't see. Dr. Kristin is amazing with young children and worked with her to find that Jen's vision was fine, it was just that her brain was ahead of her body. Dr. Terry Cole became my optometrist a few years ago. He is very professional and so knowledgeable about the eye and how to keep it healthy. My vision has actually improved over the years. Dr. Krohn saw me in an emergency situation when I thought I might be having a stroke and losing my vision. He allayed my fears and told me it was a serious floater that was detaching itself and that it would eventually disappear, to just give it time. And, it did. Recently I had another one of those floater things and just to be sure it was okay, I called early one morning and was seen almost immediately by Dr. Krohn's delightful niece, Dr. Janson, who has returned to Fresno to practice optometry. She is wonderful. No matter what your age, or what your vision needs, this is the place to go. They have a great selection of frames for those of us who like to wear glasses, and they also have contact lenses. read more

It was a fortunate opportunity to have been with this group for the last 30 years... until today! I was with this group when it was just a one building office and they were family oriented and cared about their patients. Today unfortunately, it really boils down to money. I went it for my yearly check up and did not want an extra test that I have to pay out of pocket for, insurance does not cover this test, because it is an unnecessary added test! I told the staff member that I did not want the test to which she replied let me get the doctor. Dr. Krohn stormed in recognized me as a patient he has had for many years and said "take it or leave it this is how we do things here now, I can refer you to another optometrist! " AFTER 30 years!! He continued to say that it's important to him to have the latest technology but could not in good reason tell me why it's essential for my eye exam, instead he was more interested in seeing me out of the business! I have participated in eye studies for this establishment, years of loyalty, and numerous recommendations... NEVER AGAIN! My family has used this place forever, well perhaps not anymore. I'm disgusted with the way I was treated, the lack of explanation, the lack of common respect!!! Moral of the story Dr. Krohn has taken this place from a family establishment to a gold diggers paradise! I would seek alternate eye doctors in my opinion!!! read more

Absolutely awful! Let me start by saying, I had been a customer of this practice for at least (4) years and the Doctors are incredible, so I won't discredit anything from them... But here's my story, I was looking for a new place because it was clear I needed glasses. Called, and they got me right in. I had a thorough eye exam and ended up spending a lot (about $500) over what my insurance covered, but they were the best glasses ever and I could finally see my excel spreadsheets for hours! So I used those glasses religiously for over a year, and when it came time to get more glasses, I went back and got another pair. I believed I also had an eye exam at the same time (but the receptionist says No) we'll get to her later..... Anyways, I get a cheaper pair of glasses this time, and skimp on some of the extras and only pay ($300 over my insurance coverage and remember, with no exam) ! Well I continue to use my good glasses, and one day they get lost, so I have to start using my new ones. About a week in, I am feeling terribly sick by noon everyday, I'm super sick to my stomach, and I'm getting tension headaches, and I begin to think I'm getting sick. Well, I happen to leave my glasses at home one day, and by noon I feel great, so it's clear to me, I'm having issues with these glasses, I try it again the next day and aside from my eyes being very tired from straining, I'm not feeling anything like I was previously, so it's clear I need these glasses looked at. So now we get to the lovely Ahem- receptionist... I call and let her know that I'm having trouble with these new glasses, I explain that I've just in the last month started to wear these more faithfully and it's clear they are posing a problem. I also explain, that I have just switched to a new job, and won't have access to my insurance until sept, immediately she tells me, that my last exam was in 2018 and the doctors are going to want an exam before they will make any recommendations, she also tells me we can just schedule something in September when I have insurance again. So I'm kind of appalled at this point, there is no option for any kind of temporary solution, I'm mean, maybe these glasses are defective, but of course that's not a topic of discussion at all, and she is firm, my only option is to come in when I have insurance. Now I'm mad, and I explain, that I feel that is terrible customer service, and having no option not even a short visit to just look at the glasses until sept won't help my night driving or my day work on a computer, at the very least a doctor could look at my chart and maybe make a recommendation for some temporary cheater glasses or how about look at the glasses they sold me, but NO, I had no option but to wait! So... I let her know, I'm taking my business elsewhere in September (since there is clearly no kind of warranty coverage on theses glasses).. So now I'm on the hunt for a more compassionate eye doctor and a good pair of cheaters! Hopefully I'll be treated better during my search for both! One a side note, please excuse any typos or misspellings, it's because I have a terrible pair of glasses that don't work.. Update- Found an awesome Eye Dr, and his staff is incredible too! The Dr found some issues (his diagnosis explained so much, but just an FYI they started way before 2018) So I'm even more satisfied with my choice to move on! read more

I have been going to FGO since my kids were little and struggling with school work. They helped diagnose the problems, did eye therapy, and have always been thorough with the kids and us adults. I feel confident in the care and extra tests taken, and consider it an investment in a most important asset...our vision!! The thoroughness is well worth a few extra bucks over insurance costs. I did the mistake of one time going to Costco to try and save a little, and regretted it as we Did not get the attention to detail and thorough examination necessary to stay on top if our vision needs!
