Predatory FOMO (Fear-Of-Missing-Out) tactics and/or just a total lack of awareness and consideration for customers. Not sure which, but that's the experience I got from a MANAGER. I try to shop here early in the morning before the store starts filling up and the checkout lineups get longer. Early in the morning, they only have a couple of aisles open and none of the self-serve checkouts open. I like to get in, get what I need, and get out. I have a busy day. I end up at the cashier who's also got a "manager" nametag. AFTER ringing up my purchase, she asks if I have a Walmart Mastercard. I don't. Now she starts up her "I love to help people" line, which she periodically repeats ad nauseum. She tells me I can save money "right now" with a Walmart card which lets me save on all my Walmart purchases, it's a no-fee card, and it won't take long. I decide to take a chance that it will indeed be fast, so I agree. The actual sign-up process is actually quite fast, but from here, things just go downhill. And remember, she's still saying over and over just how much she "loves to help people". She tells me that by signing up, there's a promotion where if I spent $50 today, I would receive a rebate. So many things wrong with this. - Why didn't you tell me before I signed up so that I could prepare properly to use this promotion? - Instead of being helpful, you are now just using predatory FOMO tactics to try to make me suddenly spend more. - And you tell me this AFTER I have finished my shopping and my purchase has been rung up on the card. Am I supposed to go find ANOTHER $50 worth of random crap to buy for this promotion? I might actually have considered doing that since I could stock up on groceries, but I wasn't intending to spend this much time in the store today. There really just nothing else I wanted. So thanks for pressuring me to drop everything and change my schedule just to suddenly try to spend a lot more. This is somehow helpful to your customers? I'd cancel the whole transaction now and come back another time to sign up for the card properly and use the promotion, but of course all this is happening AFTER the card is processed and AFTER my purchase that morning has been charged to the card. Next she says she wants to show me her Walmart card which she's evidently proud to have had for many years. What for? And what about the lady who's now waiting on both of us to finish the transaction so she can check out her shopping cart full of groceries. You're going to make her wait how long while you show me your card? I outright tell her no, it's not necessary, and there's someone waiting for us. As a MANAGER working the cashier station -- which hopefully means she's also supposed to be experienced at these things -- surely she can understand how showing me her Walmart card for God-knows-what-reason is a very inconsiderate waste of customer time. So, Ms. "I love to help people" Manager, THANKS FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You actually had the oppoortunity to actually help me but you wasted it trying to pressure me to buy from the store when I wasn't in a position to do so. So now your store has lost an extra $50 worth of business, and I have my chance to at using the special sign-up promotion for the Walmart mastercard. In the end, the existing grocery savings benefits of the Walmart card are basically about the same or inferior to my straight cash-back Dividend VISA. So all this was worth ZERO to me. But you probably got a nice commission out of screwing me. Who knows how many other customers you've screwed over like this pretending to "help them". read more

I am so tired of trying to order things online only to be notified AFTER I select & add to cart that the Item is out of stock or will be 'Delivered" separately in a WEEK !! BUT !! it gets better because than I go down to store itself & low & behold !! THERES WHAT I WANTED ON THE SHELF !! So why was I supposed to wait a week? And than if you actually make it to the check out without that issue it can still happen..... AFTER YOU'VE PAID !! and if you manage to avoid that there is the issue of missing items in your delivery. Its almost guaranteed that they forget something but still charge you for it. Worst Walmart in the province. I only go there if it's an absolute need. Every question on the top floor I ask has the answer of "go to electronics" or "ask the electronics people" even for something housewares like soda stream or a question about toys (employees I asked for help were both housewares and toys associates when I asked) I'd honestly say 1/8 employees are actually useful and helpful. I share the views of one from Surrey. Walmart is cheap 1. It is cheap. 2. The ingredients in their consumer food groups are items you couldn't pronounce so don't eat it; don't buy 3. There is a tight security here. People's bags are checked in upon entering the store and when people leave. So cough on your receipt, blow your nose with it, spit on it, they just might leave you alone. 4. Walmart follow procedures with customers the way Asian countries treat their customers. 5. We become little, unworthy Canadians when we enter Walmart, which will put ordinary grocery stores in Japan, Singapore or Malaysia to shame.. because Walmart is a TSA rather than grocery store. We are treated as suspects for possible theft. This is even without their alarm setting off when you get out of the grocery store. 6. Walmart will only do inspections on locations they can bully, i.e, New West store 6th and 6th and Queensborough Landing in New West. New Westminster- they can bully because there are so many slow walking, walker trailing senior citizens. In Queensborough they check because there are so many Asians shopping. 7. Walmart does not see Canada, does not see Canadians. It can only see thieves and cheap shoppers. 8. In New Westminster Walmart located in Royal City Center Mall, Pawan Patil, the manager in the store, instead of training his staff how to treat Canadians, he trains them to be alert and wait for thieves. He is a great embarrassment to his community. This guy should be fired. 9. Watch for the weight of dishwasher powder and pet food. 10. There's a dominant ethnic group that works there in many areas. If I could put negative stars here, i would. The disappointment of walmart is not sections here & there, it's walmart as a whole. THEY SUCK. The "standards" they once had went right out the door when they came to Slurrey. RUDE, DISORGANIZED, LAZY, DIRTY, ENTITLED are just a few words that come to mind when I hear "walmart & employees". Not to mention the extreme spectrum of "security" they have...LMFAO!! One personal example of that, I had just purchased groceries, was walking toward door, slowly approached (as he was distracted by something on cell phone) security guard" to ask for the time, he was startled apparently, aggressively grabbed bag out of my hand, started trying to pat me down!! He would not give back my purchases, he was too busy yelling at me "do i look like an idiot?" ...well, yes you do when you're dressed as a security guard making snap judgements etc because you were caught off guard. At customer service when I wanted to pay my bill, I lined up and was the only one in line. The employee saw me and started talking to her friend while completely ignoring me. When I pointed it out, she argued with me and told me that this was the company policy and that they needed to be talking. After 3minutes of going back and forth, she told me to apologize for pointing out her mistakes and refused to let me pay my bill. read more

I've been shopping at this location since it opened. My admiration for the security is huge, they are constantly dealing with low life crackheads panhandling, drug dealing, drug using, at the East parking lot exit. They even piss & crap out there sometimes !! They are shoplifting then making a scene at the exit to the East parking lot where their scumbag cohorts gather to "gang hassle" security when the alarm goes off and they have their bag checked. They have shoved merchandise down their pants where security cannot (And I'm sure wouldn't want to) check. Security is aware of this so all they can do is only ban them from the store. I have never had a problem with anything at this walmart, the staff are always helpful, smiling and cheerful. The prices are great, the food quality and freshness is always Walmart standard good, as expected. People should should put themselves in the staff's shoes for a day - in this parricidic homeless drug addict infested city, maby You wouldn't be whining so much and maby You would respect the employees that are trying their best to respect and help You. read more
