Food City - Such a rude and inconsiderate display of discrimination and stereotyping of the homeless or those who are struggling financially.

The are constantly treating customers as if they are all stealing, and they always put rude signs in the windows. Not to mention that their location suggests convenience, but they are charging the highest prices in town and I feel like it is taking advantage of those who are on EBT by charging such high prices. A lot of people here don't have cars or transportation and are stuck hemorrhaging their EBT funds on high prices because they have no other choice. Their meat department is a joke and people are constantly dealing with spoiled meat. If you can get to Hannaford or Market 32 in Saint Albans, go to those places. Friendlier staff, better prices and non spoiled meat. I have included a recent photo of a rude sign that reads "if you plan on shoplifting let us know." This just feels like discriminatory practices against people who are on EBT and SNAP or homeless. This store seems to hate homeless and poor people.

The expiration date was still two days away. When I called the store at 6:30 p.m., I was told "The meat manager is gone for the day and won't be back until tomorrow." Hey, Food City, here's a thought: How about having an evening manager on staff who can take the complaint, investigate, and possibly save your customers from food poisoning? Next call will be to the health department.

On the opposite side of the store, you'll find an impressive selection of local and Vermont-made products, creative work from regional designers, and exclusive items you simply won't see at Walmart. During a recent visit, I noticed two small carts positioned near the front door, highlighting the store's thoughtful attention to customer convenience. The owner and cashiers are warm and welcoming to everyone, whether you're from the area or visiting from out of town. Unfortunately, some reviews misinterpret what Rail City offers. It is not a Walmart--rather, it is a one-of-a-kind Vermont store that proudly supports local products and extends genuine friendliness to all who enter. I highly recommend visiting Rail City for a truly unique and delightful shopping experience

At each and every supermarket if the cashier makes a mistake and over charges you not only get to keep your purchase but you get a complete refund. So is Price Chopper different from the rest of grocery stores? I think not. They just have no adult management. I bought a single bottle of beer. The cashier charged me based on a $10.99/6 pack. But the 6 pack was only $9.99 so instead of refunding me the $1.84+tax they wanted to just refund me 18 cents. Having worked in a supermarket as a cashier and as a manager in several supermarket corporate offices and I have shopped in supermarkets in many states this is not the way things are done. Not at all. But the worst was Alex who can't add/subtract or read. OMG! And one last thing did you realize at Price Chopper they charge you for getting cash back on your debit card? Except for the fact the cashier forgets to tell you beforehand. So ca anyone tell me of another market in St Albans even 15-20 miles away so I don't have to deal with children who can't read or do basic math? Please advise. Thanks! UPDATE... I found Hannaford Supermarket a little further down the street. They sell the same 6 pack for $8.99.

Yelp can be a breeding ground for people to leave negative reviews with snarky comments and I sometimes wonder what the underlying motivation could be for that (ie. Disgruntled employee, an overly biased person with a narrow minded or provincial way of thinking, a hypercritical Karen so to speak). You never know. I am unsure why this store has such negative reviews. I am fortunate enough that I live within walking distance from my home/apartment to this place. I typically use Instacart to buy my groceries and they don't allow alcohol delivery and I am someone that when I cook or dine, I must have a glass of wine. That's just the way it goes. Call me a wine snob or what not, but there is nothing better than a glass of Montepulciano or Sangiovese with a creamy penne a la vodka or a hearty Cabernet to cut through the grittiness of a steak or pair a jammy Pinot Noir with a juicy hamburger (yum). So, I walk to this location when I can, though I try not to spend exorbitant amounts of money. I tend to get lost in aisles of wine because I become entranced or captivated by all the different varietals and labels. The bottom shelves typically are home to lower cost wines. I don't wish to say "low end" making them seem poopy in any way because there are some good cheap wines out there. Shout out to Bogle wines. Their Petite Syrah and Merlot are sublime, but the higher cost or more "premium" wines are typically located on the top shelf. Hence top shelf liquor or drinks when you go out and order top shelf liquor, but I can't really say anything derogatory or mean about the place. I will say because I am a rather different townsfolk (proud Latina woman here) I am not sure how the other customers may feel when I enter the store. I try not to be loud or overly gregarious but I think I have gotten a few sideways glances here and there from a farmer or two lol but there is nothing like a smile and kindness to help turn someone's frown :( upside down ^_^ So I carry on my merry way with ipods blasting some good music (Tiny Moves or Modern Girl by Bleachers...good to go) so I can enjoy my wine perusing time. I enter a wine shop the same way I enter a bookstore, with excitement, intrigue, and delight. I must say that the way in which the store is organized is perfect. They even recently rearranged the store so that the checkout area is lower to the ground as it used to be in the middle of the store and raised. It looks very nice and professional, like a miniature boutique Total Wine store we had back in Miami, FL. The sales people I really have not had much trouble with. I talked to a nice guy named David who was cleaning the floor and another store clerk has showed me a picture of his Iguana. It's huge! I try to treat anyone working in customer service or hospitality with the utmost respect because it's hard. Believe me. People are irate, treat you like trash, don't smile, may glare at you to intimidate you, so I generally like to shoe respect to store clerks and cashiers and hey, I am open to learning about all sorts of things from all walks of life. The manager I have yet to meet. The people who operate the deli/cafe counter in the back-don't really engage with, but i think you can buy sandwiches and stuff like that. They do have a pretty hefty selection of other items, like water, beer, snacks, candy, and there is a whole other section off to the left side that houses like a ton of beer cases. I never really venture over to that side because I am not much of a beer drinker. I'll entertain a stout or porter or maybe a Blue Moon, but that's it. They also carry a lot of variety in terms of Tequila, Whiskey, Vodka, Bourbon, and Liquers. I do think that they're pricing is modest, not overly exaggerated. I find some good wines at a decent price. I do wish they carried more Moscatos though. Moscato is on the sweeter side of wines, but they're still good nonetheless. They do carry Sweet and Dry Riesling so that makes up for the lack of Moscato selections available. Overall, I gave five stars because it is a clean store, doesn't reek of cigarettes or vape smoke and the store clerks for the most part treat me decently. The customers are another story lol but again it's a small town and I am kind of like the new girl and that can be tough to welcome in new blood lol but I respect most townsfolk because this is their home. I am just glad I was able to find a place to go to grab a decent bottle of wine. If I wanted to splurge I could and they have a nice selection of wines ranging from Caymus, Hall Vineyards, Orin Swift, Rodney Strong, Chateau Montelana so whoever is curating the selection knows their stuff so kudos to them. If I could add an "applause" emoji I would, but overall I am satisfied with the service.

As far as this location goes: it appears that on a national level, they is movement in integrating and combining Family Dollar and Dollar Tree (it's sister company that until recently only few similarities and generic and sometimes conflicting corporate structuring) Yet now, it appears that Dollar Trees are being brought into Family Dollars and that corporate model is taking over its host... sometimes gradually and sometimes as a new location. Before being hired and starting to make observations, as a customer, I would always start out towards Family Dollar first, it always was my first stop on my brick and mortar rounds. So when you are in the store, please try and remember that everyone working there really believes they are doing everything they possibly can to help the customers, help each other and help the company they work for.
