Update: Walmart corporate finally decided to give this store a much needed makeover. It now has a large self checkout area, which has drastically reduced checkout times and slightly increased local unemployment. The store overall looks more up to date and it generally makes for a better shopping experience. However, it is still a small, somewhat unkempt store with a piss-poor parking lot and most of my original review still applies. Original review: Avoid this Wal-Mart if possible. 1. This is not a Super Center. It carries a very small selection of groceries, but don't expect much. 2. If you are looking to take pictures for the "People of Wal-Mart" website, this is a great destination. 3. The store has narrow isles, is generally messy, and is not always well stocked. 4. For whatever reason, this Wal-Mart is always very busy and full of rude customers. During peak hours, expect lines at the checkout counters. 5. Some of the workers are nice at this Wal-Mart. It's not their fault this is treated like the red-headed stepstore of Sam Walton. 6. The parking lot is small, dangerous, and poorly designed. read more

The staff here is very rude and treat all customers like criminals. Worse than that if their is a misunderstanding they don't try to stay calm the intentionally escalate the situation by acting like they want to fist fight people. There is never a need to keep an argument going especially if the customer had a misunderstanding has apologized and is trying to walk away. I understand that things can be stressful and some customers can be jerks but when their is a misunderstanding that caused no harm or no shrink like a customer walking the wrong direction or something else silly. You dont need to repeatedly scream at a customer. I would also like to point some of your staff pretends to be veterans when they are not which is disrespectful and the way you have your doors barricaded at times violates fire codes not to mention the rampant OSHA violations committed by employees. I called and asked for a manager and got told their wasn't a manager I could speak with not that the manager wasn't available but that was no manager at all and that is after they let the phone ring for 6 minutes. I had to explain that their should be someone who can resolve a customer before I finally got to speak to a manager. ( I would like to point out that the manager whoever he was was very courteous and professional) This used to be one of the better stores in the Kansas City, KS/ Roeland Park area but now the majority of the staff and store has become just a stereotype of the inner city. read more

I've been to other walmarts and they were not as bad as this one. This place is unorganized and it's really hard to find stuff. I spent 10min just looking for an ingredient. The cashiers never greeted me every time I checked out and never even smiled. Still, they have some great prices. They need to work on customer service and organize the store. read more

This Walmart makes you feel like you're wandering alone around Tijuana at night. It's dirty, dimly lit, and overall pretty trashy. I have no problem running in here for something quick but I won't spend hours in the aisles here like I might at other big-box stores. If you need to save a buck come here but don't expect them to have everything you want and make sure you double-check your purchase to make sure it hasn't been opened or returned already. read more

The so called "Manager" Tressie, is the most unprofessional "manager" I have ever come across in all my years of experience with customer service and other managerial experiences. My son and I arrived at Walmart at 10:45pm, just 15 minutes before store closing time. I had forgotten that this is not a 24hr Walmart but since I only needed 2 items, I decided I could walk in and out. My son found the goggles he needed and I found the beach towel that I needed for our trip to Oceans and Worlds of fun the following day. Upon checking out, I did not realize that my total was much higher then expected until I repeated the amount back to the cashier after seeing my receipt and questioning the $14.97 charge which turned out to be the goggle's price. I told her this was not correct as the price on the shelf listed $5.97. The goggles must not have been in the right place as there was a hot mess in that section so I demanded a refund. The cashier told me I would need to go to the customer service desk to get my refund but there was no one there so as I noticed another employee passing by, I asked my son to notify her that I was at the service desk and needed assistance. She responded that the service desk closes at 10pm and I would need to return the following day to return my item. I immediately walked back to the register and told the cashier that I needed my money back tonight as I would not be able to return the following day due to my busy schedule and that this represented a real inconvenience for me. She said she could not help me as she did not have the capability to do so, to which I responded by requesting to speak to a manager. The "manager " happened to be close by and once again told me I would need to return the following day, so I again requested to speak to a manager and she very shortly and with a tone told me "I am the Manager!" So I told her that I new for a fact that she could assist me because I had a similar situation happen about 3-4 years ago and the manager was able to assist me to which she responded that it was their choice and her choice was Not do the same! So I responded that I would not leave until I got my money back. She then responded that I would get locked in! All while my 10 year old son was standing next to me and became very agitated and concerned so he asked me to Just go and come back tomorrow. At this point it was no longer about the inconvenience but rather the lack of professionalism and willingness to assist me from the so called "manager" Tressie. She walked away and left me standing at the register so other employees approached me trying to help. The "manager" finally gave in after the other employees continued to radio for assistance but she insisted that she would not help me! It took the employees less than 2 minutes to process my refund and as I was walking away I thanked the them and affirmed that they were all amazing except for the manager of course who was clearly not a good manager. My son witnessed her, the "manager" Tressie, spit on her had as she covered her mouth and call me the B* word! As per his worlds. By the time my son told me this I was already outside the store and the doors had already been locked. I my self am a Manager of an international well known hotel chain, and as a manager, my #1 priority is always the Guest and their satisfaction. I know that the customer is not always right but even then, I keep my composure and I do my best to assist them, just like the other employees at the register did! And I am truly appalled that you have a person like Tressie representing your organization and management staff because she is clearly not qualified to do so! read more

This is the dirtiest and disorganized Walmart in the city, state, Midwest and almost the nation. There's only one other Walmart I've been to as bad, and that was in Alexandria, Virginia. Everything about this place is gross. Including the parking lot. Holy hell, the bathrooms are some of the worst I've seen...I'll hold it. It's sort of a miniature Walmart. This was an awful experience. It was my first time visiting this Walmart. It was grimy, overcrowded, and loud. It took me an hour to locate three items. The store is so unorganized and messy. The patrons were rude and belligerent. I think I almost had a nervous breakdown. The cashier in the 10 items or less lane didn't say my total out loud because she was too busy flirting with the much older "Zone Supervisor" while she was ringing up my items. Such a terrible walmart. Never had any major problems at but at this location its one problem after another. Im not gonna go into every detail because there have been so many bad experiences. I just tried to return a 15 dollar item and was refused because i had no receipt. They said any returns from electronics cant be returned without a receipt. Which would make sense from actual eletronic items but this item is not. It is just located in the electronic section. So once again i walk 2 miles to come to walmart and again i am disappointed. Normally, I don't entertain topics like this. And I have NEVER had a problem at this particular store. But today, at the Walmart on Roeland Park, the chip vendor guy who is hearing impaired (store management said his name was Jimmy), racially profiled my family and I. We are bi-racial individuals. I am pregnant with a 5 year old and was with my husband and the chip vendor wouldn't let us through the isle. After saying excuse me at least 6 times, he proceeded to harass my family and I by saying my husband wanted to kill him and then finished by laughing at us as we struggled to continue on. All we wanted to do was get through the isle and continue our shopping. I am very concerned and very upset! Unfortunately, I will not be coming back to this location! read more

I was impressed by the staff at this location. I noticed a young lady stop what she was doing to help this older lady find an item. The item looked opened so the worker made sure it was all correct before she left with it. It was nice to see someone take the time to help a customer. The food selection was only about 4-5 isles so if your looking for something specific it may be hard to find here. read more

I have called 20 times to try and get a refill on a script and the line is always busy. When you go in to pick up a script, there's 5-6 employees in the pharmacy and they are soooo slow. I keep a very busy schedule. I can't wait 30 minutes to get my scripts. Also, why isn't there an automated recording to put your order in so you don't get a busy signal. I just had to have my script transferred to the Westwood location as I can't miss a day. They had the automated system and someone picked up right away. If Walmart was not the only place I could fill at, I wouldn't. I'd have it done somewhere else. Your pharmacy service sucks! And your store is filthy. You've lost my business on all ends. read more

If I could leave negative stars I would. This Specific location is a pit of despair. The aisles are only big enough for one cart to fit through. It's as if they took as much product as they possibly could fit and crammed it into this disorganized mess of a building. If you are looking for groceries this isn't going to be the place as their are only 4-6 aisles of food and I couldn't even find a produce aisle. Each one of the staff were either walking around on their phone or just standing around while the store has been given had little to no attention. As far as stopping the spread of Coronavirus this location clearly has given no thought to it. I was constantly surrounded by shoppers as there isn't any control as to how many people can be in the store, not to mention none of them were wearing masks. Even the staff only had masks only over their mouths not their nose. I'm not the type to leave a negative review anywhere but the complete lack of attention given to this store absolutely appalled me. If you want to go shopping just to walk around large crowds of people with no sense of personal space, search for products that either aren't there or are too clustered and disorganized that you won't find them, or just want to be claustrophobic this is the perfect place for you. read more

Am I setting the bar too high? In my case, the phone won't even connect @ my local store &, in the one just beyond, they cudn't b bothered by knowing any of their inventory. Altho, I'm worried abt the effect of AI upon our culture in future, it wud b a blessing to hve a machine to which the noun, "intelligence" mite apply. Perhaps, in order to simplify, the anthropomorphic single noun which best describes the average Walmart employee, is "moron." I hve had a few clients to whom the clinical application of this word was apt, but @least, they were often kind, sweet & seemed to care. Seriously, mgt mite adjust their hiring practices & consider someone who is w/i the spectrum of autism. Having been stuck with having to use a Walmart pharmacy by my insurance company , I bit the bullet and went to this one, because it's closest to where I live. I'd developed a severe ear infection, so I've had to visit this particular circle of hell three times this week. This appears to be the standard procedure: 1. My doctor calls in a prescription, let's say in the early afternoon. 2. I go to Walmart, where they variously tell me that said prescription doesn't exist, was never called in, etc. 3. They find the prescription and ask me to hang around for 20 minutes. 4. It takes 2 HOURS, at the end of which they tell me the drug does not exist, or some other nonsense. Last night I went in to pick up a prescription my doctor had called in several hours earlier. They told me there was no prescription and shuffled me from person to person, where finally someone found it in a disordered stack of prescriptions. He said to give them 20 minutes. An hour and a half later, when the pharmacy was about to close, they beckoned me to the window and said they couldn't fill the prescription because a doctor needed to send written permission. IT WAS NOT MY DOCTOR. I said I'd never heard of this dr. and that it wasn't my doctor, and they said, "well, the name's on the prescription." So now I wonder if they mixed up prescriptions or something. I am furious and my ear is worse. Drive to Nebraska if you have to, but do NOT trust your health to this incompetent pharmacy. read more

Every time I go to this Walmart (which is seldom), I say it is going to be my last time. I know Walmart is Walmart, but this is without a doubt the worst one I have ever been to. First of all its dimly lit (creepy) and its not a "green" one so I don't know what the deal is with that. Secondly, the shelves are always half empty and there are basically no variety/ choices other than the walmart brand itself. This place is dark, dank, and dirty inside with narrow aisles and very poor overhead lighting. If you're loyal to Walmart, save yourself a trip to this location and go to the Neighborhood Walmart Market on 47th and Mission Road. Otherwise, consider the Target in Mission, Kansas. Seeing as this is the closest Walmart to me, as much as I hate it, it's a convenience to run there when I'm out of an essential. But not once have I ever walked into that store without being hit on by a worker, usually more then one. Whether I'm dolled up or even when I was incredibly sick- looking deathly in my pjs, I still couldn't catch a break. The layout of the store is a mess and doesn't make any sense to me. And it's so dark and small that I just hate the environment in there. I've also been stopped in the parking lot and a man wouldn't let me walk past him until he gave me a spiel about what he was selling (pirated dvd's and cd's, and a belt of body sprays and lotions) given he wasn't a worker I felt very uncomfortable and was going to just walk back to me vehicle but was worried I would be followed. The parking lot lay out is terrible and I've almost been in multiple accidents because of people flying around corners. I get that Walmart can't control every aspect of my bad experiences but they definitely need to get their employees under control. read more

This is a horrible retail store. The representatives are unresponsive, immature and aloof. I had an issue and asked to speake to a manager. i cant fiqure the negative sentiment towards such a godsend as roeland park walmart. simply stated the experience is surreal in that you find yourelf being catered to by walmart employees who truly nseem intent on delivering the most pleasing shopping joy. after my last trip i noticed every checkout lane was in service with smiling cashiers who believe it or not all attend my church as well as volunteer in the community on thier off days. just one look inside the store and you will be amazed at the attention to cleanliness as everything is spicandspan. i love going there even when i have no cause to just because i feel better for it. if you love being the center of the universe then come to roeland park walmart where the people are there love you. and no there are no mexicans. all white bread for the compasionate hearted heartlanders. and if you go you wont even smell any pot.unless you kiss me read more
