Been going there since '98ish when the other stores began to fall, so it's local enough for a nice little ride to get there, but not too far away to be a pain in the a**. I think of the line in One Hour Photo when the boss tells Sy that it's not exactly Neimen Marcus and people generally go there for a quick pair of socks. True, but I find myself there at least once a weekend, more often with a list. The cashiers we "know" always say hello and it's nice to be recognized when you spent your cash. Returns are almost absurdly easy (sometimes there is a line) and the Men's clothing has improved. The only issues are, unlike the "old" stores, there is no real people that work in a set department with some cross-training. Language barriers are hard to get past at times. All in all, not the Monster that people like to bag on, I've been going for many years and have zero issues. read more

I had a less than impressive experience at this store. I came in for a specific item that they said they had in stock and searched for about 20 mins for it. Went to a register for help and was snottily told to go to the customer service desk. Waited in line there. Had to repeat myself several times to be able to get someone to help me in the aisle to find the item. I won't be coming back here again, that's for sure. This place is a joke. Have mostly gone to this location because it is conveniently in my hometown but it just keeps getting worse and worse. Employees either can't speak English and/or don't have basic customer service skills. No one is ever working on registers forcing you to check out an entire cart through self checkout (after you've waited in line for 25 minutes). Managers always seem to be on break, no one is ever working in the electronics, sports or garden center departments. This place needs a total overhaul. Oh Walmart, when will you start hiring people who at least pretend to care? I'm not looking for deep conversation, in your employees "hello doesn't need to be followed by "how are you today?" Frankly, I know they don't care, and I don't particularly care to share. But a simple greeting is part of the job. Not a peep. At first, I thought maybe this young lady was mute. I found myself waiting for a grunt, a nod, maybe even a foot stomp some indication that verbal communication was still an option. She was scanning my items, so I knew progress was being made. What amazes me most was that she must've sat through an interview at some point. That means she can talk. Which made me wonder: what exactly did she say that convinced someone she was a fit for a customer service position? I could overlook the Morticia Adams self expression. I can appreciate a commitment to a look and I understand, This isn't a corner office job with six figure salary. But isn't it supposed to be a stepping stone? A place to learn basic workplace skills? Things like standing confidently,making eye contact, acknowledging customers, and exchanging a few words before moving onto the next person. These aren't advanced business strategies. Their life skills. The management team should know better. And please don't tell me the applicant pool is shallow. Maybe it is. If so, work harder, search harder. Find the people who actually want to work, who want to learn, and who understand every job teaches something valuable. As for self check out, I used to think Walmart installed those lanes to save labor costs. Now I'm convinced they are there for customers like me -people who would rather scan their own groceries then leave feeling slightly depressed about the future workforce and the manager's responsible for developing it. read more

They never have the item in stock that I need - simple things like a teapot or a notebook. Staff is always rude and there's never enough registers open for the swarm of people waiting to pay. It's ALWAYS easier and a better experience to drive a bit up the street and head to Target. You might spend a teensy bit more, but at least they have your product in stock. read more

Store is full of high horses who can not listen to a customer and jump to their own conclusions which aren't correct. They love to slam customers "behind their back" saying false things until they learn the customer is also fluent in Spanish. The store is also not friendly to people with mobility disabilities. Aisles are stuffed with pallets of whatever that no one can fit down. They also chose to stuff the aisles you need the most for your trip liken the laundry aisles. 3/4 my list of household needed items were inaccessible. Then trying to get toothpaste a man turns the corner fast with a pallet and bumped into me. I said excuse me as I was trying to move out of their way and get dirty looks. The biggest issues I have and it's been reported for many years to have nothing done or attempted to resolve is their inky loop entrance to access the sidewalk is not handicapped accessible. They only open via push/pull traditional methods. Many don't realize this and by the time they do it's an inconvenience and highly unsafe go around. The customer with a mobility issue is left to move thru the aisle of the parking lot because Walmart wants to argue responsibility of who is to fix what. This had first been reported by me and my family over 2 decades ago. Walmart could have simply fixed it by making the door accessible. But instead nothing was done and they claim not to be responsible. A lesson in business is they could be right and are not responsible. How ever they have an option to help fix it and refused to do it. So I have options too and one is that I canceled a paid membership of many years and I will use local competitors who care about their customers and other best to help resolve problems they can resolve. read more

This is one of the worst Walmart stores I've been in to date. Minuscule store with rude employees and small amounts of inventory. Yikes. Never a good combination. I have so many problems with this place, and barely any benefits. First, for the record, I only come to the North Reading Walmart for convenience. During the month of November, I spend a full weekend up in this area for an event at the Shriners Auditorium down the street. This store is so convenient to the auditorium and the only "quick" place for me to get some items fast. While it's convenient to the event, I'm so close to shopping at Target in Wilmington all the time, because of how bad this store is. Here's what really grinds my gears about this store: 1. Selection. Nothing is really guaranteed here. Everything you actually need won't be here or will be available in an odd size or an odd brand. No Clorox in stock, and the bags of animal crackers are 32oz in comparison to the 20oz ones I normally buy. And for the record, not ONE iPhone charging cord left. 2. Staff. Julianna and Luis are both so rude, unfriendly, and make customers seem like criminals. I kindly asked the man at Self Checkout if he could check one of the prices 3. Size. Small store. Smaller than any other Walmart I've been to, and just shoddy design. Doesn't flow like a normal store, and between the lighting and the lack of upkeep of the building, it's just terrible. They barely have enough space to keep all of the departments and have so much less than other Walmart stores, and much, much less than my local Supercenter Walmart in Walpole. 4. Prices. Tags are incorrectly placed on shelves and prices are incorrect. They also have this scam (I mentioned it above in selection) of only carrying the largest size of certain items (like animal crackers). It's not like I'm at BJ's or Costco, it's Walmart. Honestly, don't bother. And if you have to, make sure to do Self Checkout and not deal with either Luis or Julianna (or something like that). While I never like negativity, this place is the definition of that! 2 stars. read more

I had always read about this Walmart but was weary... I tend to go to Walmart maybe 2-3 times a week... and I just wanted a change from my regular Quincy or Danvers... So I ventured down Main street for what seemed like forever & there it was... Big and OMG theres a $$ tree in the same place, you mean this can be my new 1 stop place... No... It cant, this Walmart stunk... Im not a very picky shopper and very seldomly do I need specific things but this night I wanted a few things that Walmart makes (like actually a walmart brand item) and they didnt have any of them.. The store was just messy & no one was to be found & then when they were I felt like they were all hired straight out of the pre-release prison program. Customer service was horrible the employees seemed like when u asked for help you were nothing them. I tried to get service for a bike that needed to be brought down and we had to ask 5 different employees and one was a supervisor in the front of the store gave me and my boyfriend an attitude then the employee who showed up after 15 minutes to the bike section said well I was here no one here . We just left that area because no one was trying to help us with the bikes. They need to clean up shop and fire anyone there who acts like they don't want to do their jobs because belong the customer is doing your job. read more

Yes, this is a walmart. I know what to expect. However I went in looking for a video game (tiger woods, no big deal). And the person stocking in that area could not have cared less when I asked for help locating it. She was too busy sitting on the floor with most of her ass hanging out near a pile of DVDs. Here's a brief recap: Me: Hi I was wondering if you could help me find a game? (lady does not even turn in my direction) After repeating myself she looks around for someone else - Her: What are you looking for? Me: An xbox 360 game Her: Was it on the shelf? I have stopped by here a number of times. It's one of the only places that is open on a Sunday evening (later on a Sunday evening) when you are in North Reading and have to run out for something. I found that it was either this joint, or the S&S down the street. Between the two, Walmart def. has lower prices and is set up in a fairly rational manner. I did a little bit of christmas shopping on black friday here - nothing special, just stocking stuffers, odds and ends. Every time I stop in here I buy laundry detergent too - it's like a knee-jerk reaction to entering a walmart for me. Can't stop, won't stop! I don't really like any of the clothes that they carry here, but I've purchased some cheap jeans and shirts for work for myself and my bf. I grabbed a few clothing items for the 2 year old we know (the nephew) who will either trash his clothes or grow out of them very quickly, either way cheaply made clothes work for him - plus they carry Bruins and Celtics clothes in his size for under $12! I brought my bf's brother here to shop for pots and pans when he moved into his own apartment. I came back shortly there after to get him a set of dishes and a bunch of extra (matching) silverware.... I believe the two sets were under $30? (dishes and silverware) Not too shabby. They have lasted the last 6 months without breaking, it's the way to go with people who don't care for their stuff very well, and better than Tellos... I'm not big on Big Business... but I'll stop in here if I'm in a rush, or there isn't a better, local option (which out here... I don't think there is...) read more

While I no longer live near this Walmart, I have to say it is one of the better ones I've been too. I'm not sure if that's saying much, but it is what it is :) I used to live in Malden, so the closest Walmart to me was in Lynn. To be honest, I never went to that one, but I hear it's like walking into the Twilight Zone. So ya, I think I'll pass. I took the drive to North Reading instead. This is a decent sized Walmart, and they always had what I needed. I never bought clothes at this one (I rarely ever buy clothes at Walmart period, but I did get Celtics pajamas once, and a black short-sleeved shirt for the summer, which I actually like a lot), but they had had a pretty big selection. And I was always able to find household stuff that I needed--dish towels, laundry detergent, etc etc, and shower/beauty supplies too. I can't really comment on the associates because I never had to ask for help, but the cashiers were always fairly friendly. For the most part, I went here while I was laid off, so it was never too busy, as it was mid-morning on weekdays. However, once I realized that the Target in Saugus wasn't far from me (and also discovered that the Woburn Target had a full grocery section, woo ha!), I generally went there. read more

If I could give -5 as a score, I would. I purchased a grill online and a same day site to Store pickup. Website said 4 hours, it'll be ready. 5 hours later I show up and there aren't any workers in the site to store area. Little machine at the desk says tap here for service. 10 minutes later no one arrives. I had to flag down an employee, who had to walk over to garden dept to get the grill because it wasn't ready. I look on the box and it says, free assembly, great I sign up and I'm told 48 hours I'll get a call to pick up. This is 4/3. I call 2 days later and nothing is done because the lone assembler called out sick. Day 3, worker tells me it's gonna be a week...A WEEK?!?! On 4/7 I go to pick up my grill and assemble myself because it's totally ridiculous that's it's taken so long. I go to site to Store and of course, no employees available but what I see blows my mind. 3 items have large signs on them with purchase date and customer info for the assembler. 2 child bikes purchased 4/7 are assembled and ready for pick up on 4/7 BUT my grill purchased 4/3 is still in the box on the counter?!?! Soooo Done and I will not go back there to even purchase a pack of gum. Customer service is a complete joke. Awful, horrendous and should be shut down if they can't operate properly. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE THE RESTROOMS at this Walmart! Poop on seats, walls, urine all over and seats FALLING OFF! On more than one occasion, I have complained......it is DISGUSTING and it seems as if the staff does not care.... OMG!! Run away...and if you go and ask a question about a product here, you get this face staring right back at you! There is NO customer service at this store at all. I waited at the paint counter for some one to come by and help me. No one came by so after 5 minutes I called the store and they paged someone to help me get some paint mixed. After 15 minutes no one showed up so I called the store again. Now she says to me she does not think there is any one working today who can mix paint. I asked why didn't they tell me this 15 minutes ago. Of course there was not answer. The people of Walmart are my entertainment. I've been to many Walmarts and they all share that common trait. This Walmart in North Reading is unique in that its exterior is unlike any other Walmart I've seen. It actually kind of resembles a barn. It is not a super Walmart and is one of the original sized versions. That being said, they have a very, very small frozen food section. I counted 3 freezers, all with pizza and french fries. This is the extent of their "grocery" offerings. The good about this Walmart is that it is never busy. I am in here about once a week, and regardless if it is Saturday or Monday the store is pretty much at the same level of "Busy." I am not a fan of Target, so will continue shopping at Walmart. The funny thing about shopping here is I always feel like a supermodel when I look at the clientele. Is that wrong? Maybe, but I am not getting any younger. read more

I go there about once a year and this time, it looks like its undergoing some sort of a remodel. I'd give it a 3 because I was able to get in and out of there in less than 5 minutes, but the way people enter the store needs to be expanded. Stuck behind a mom who let her children walk, an elderly couple couldn't get the carriage by the kid, then everyone was looking at the kid and it screamed and cried. When I go back i about 6 months, hopefully the remodel is complete and I'll feel safe enough to walk around the store a little more than I did. read more

My husband and I shopped at this location and when we went to our car with our purchases, we looked at the receipt and noticed there were two items added to the receipt that we did not have in our cart when we were at the register. One item totaled over $40 and the other a few cents less than $10. The cashier didn't even notice what she was doing by running two items through more than once. Outside the store, we had to pack up all the purchases, put them back into the cart, go back into the store to customer service where yet another person there was so indifferent to our two overcharges and I don't think she even apologized for the issue. She credited our credit card and we left the store. I told her she should speak to the cashier who made these two mistakes and straighten her out about these things. She seemed indifferent to that as well. I am calling the manager today. With American shoppers dealing with high inflation, high gas prices, etc. this is NOT the correct way to do business when our dollars are stretched to the max! read more

I can not say enough good things about Pharmacy Staff. Every one including Pharmacist are competent, exhibit patience and very helpful. They essentially work as a small neighborhood pharmacies that have ceased to exist. It is hard to keep up this level of performance with turnover in staff. I have been to this Walmart a total of 3x. Each time I go there is a specific thing I HAVE to get there or else I would NEVER go. This place is NEVER picked up. Ever. I went the other day to get a game for my nieces birthday. I searched the game section for about a half hour before I found it. The game section is TINY, a MESS and has very little organization to it. I couldn't believe that it was the way it was. I had to move all sorts of items to find the game I went there for. There were items literally just tossed onto the shelves. Not in a way that customers did it but in a way that they were placed there specifically. I went here to return a product with a reciept, but no box. A manager Jeannette claims the only thing she could do was take the product and we could wait 3 weeks to be refunded. Online third party products are done that way.Walmart mistakenly sent us a receipt anyway stating bring back without issue to a store. Even cooporate was surprised. This review is for the Pharmacy. I've recently started transferring my cats and father's prescriptions here. Unlike my dad, the cats don't benefit from ObamaCare so trying to get a reasonable price for a generic drug is crazy. In the past, I had used Tahget, avoiding Wally World at all times. With CVS buying the Target pharmacy, my cats prescriptions were more than doubling in price. My dad gets a great deal at Walmart through Humana so I decided to try Wal-Mart for my uninsured cats. It wasn't easy getting the prescriptions transferred... And one of them had no refills and Wal-Mart won't call the vet. Target would have called without telling me. Obviously I'm not paying for the service. But the new Target/CVS was $21, CVS would have been $80, and Wal-Mart is $8. That's a big enough of a difference to convince me to make the phone call and get the refills myself. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would for this particular Wal-Mart store. I made the mistake of stopping there to develop some digital pictures on Sunday. I'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart, and this just confirmed my negative perception of the store and its employees. My boyfriend and I just wanted to develop about 20 pictures from our recent vacation that were stored on our digital camera. Previously, we've had good success with the Wal-Mart photo kiosks, however, this time we were saddened to see that they switched from Kodak to HP. The process was much slower, with directions that aren't even correct; it tells you to scan your receipt once and then asks for it several more times during the process. No one was in the department which is not a big shock. When is any department correctly manned at Wal-Mart? We got our pictures and figured that since we had the receipt we could just pay at the check-out, and boy that was a big mistake! First, the cashier didn't understand how to scan the receipt; which I will point out wasn't actually a receipt despite saying it was. Yeah- it makes no sense to me either. She had another cashier show her how, and then in the span of 20 seconds totally forgot what that cashier did. Somehow, she put in our "receipt" twice. Now, if it had been less than a dollar, I would have said forget it, but 20 pictures was little pricier. On went the light. And we waited. And waited. Nine people came to the spot behind us and nine people left. No manager came. The cashier didn't even apologize and was somewhat surly. I finally gave up and left to take a walk. Thirty-five minutes later, a manager came and voided the one item so my boyfriend was able to pay and escape that vile store. Thirty-five minutes. I mean, seriously? And we couldn't have her just void the whole order and leave because she needed the manager for that too! Absolutely ridiculous. I would complain to Wal-Mart but I don't think they care since that seems to be the norm for their stores. Avoid this place, even the easiest transactions become insanely difficult and time-consuming! read more
