What can I say? I'm from Delano... any time my mom needs something from here I try my best to avoid this place, but if mama says she needs to go, then I have to bring mama. Amazingly, this Walmart seems to be a little bigger than all the ones in Bakersfield. I love Walmart, but not all Walmart's are created equally and unfortunately the bad apple is located in my hometown. This Walmart happens to be the newest biggest thing in Delano and is not even in competition with Kmart, because there's rumors that Kmart will be closing soon. I truly hate to rate Walmart 1 star, but the store is a hot mess. I have been to this store several times and I have thought to myself, maybe it's just an off day, but coming here several times now and it's still a hot mess. There's a bunch of young kids/adults working here with bad work ethics and don't get me wrong, there are some hardworking ones, but unfortunately the lazies outweighs the hardworking people. How can we tell? Hmmmmm, maybe because carts are all over the place, items are thrown in other aisles that don't belong there, it's just hectic. Workers don't smile, which leads me to think they are not happy. Happy workers are hard workers and if they aren't happy... well... I'm a Walmart fan so I hope Delano gets it together because I read a bunch of other reviews and a lot of the negative reviews are similar. When it's 2 negative reviews, to me that's an opinion. When there are multiple negative reviews, then to me that's a trend. On a positive note, I believe this Walmart is here to stay. Parking is not an issue as it's a huge parking lot and they have the same items here just like every other Walmart. It's in close vicinity to other businesses and is in an okay location because the people that live on the other side of town near Kmart doesn't wanna travel this far out, so you'll have your loyal Walmart shoppers come out of their way to shop at Walmart. read more

This place is humungous both from the outside and from the inside. It makes the WalMarts in Bakersfield look wimpy by comparison, and reminds me more of the WalMarts I have visited in the Midwest which are very one-stop-shopping experiences. As you walk in the front doors you can not only pick up DVDs at the RedBox, but you can also have keys made at a special machine that makes them in about a minute. Pretty handy. Inside, the delicious fragrance of bread baking in the Subway restaurant inside greets you warmly. The Subway restaurant is pretty good sized. There is also a gameplay location which has vibrating rides for the kids at $.50 each. There is a SmartStyle family hair salon, a Vision Center where you can purchase eyeglasses, even an optometrist on the premises in case you need a new eye exam, too. Even the ladies room looks like it was done by an interior decorator, albeit a low budget one, as the tile on the floor and walls is lovely. There is even a Diaper kit dispenser ($1), which I assume dispenses diapers and wipes, and a stainless steel diaper changing station. There are 20 cash registers stretching across the front of the store, though less than half of them were open 3 days after Christmas. This Walmart has a full service grocery department that is the size of most grocery stores plus a huge pharmacy, over the counter medication, cosmetics, and bath & beauty sections. Looking for clothing for men, women, and children? These departments are large, too. Don't forget toys, automotive, sporting goods, housewares, and electronics! Outside, on the left of the store, there is a Garden Center with barbecues and all sorts of other items for your front or back yard. I guess size really DOES matter. read more

Well, what d you know. The City of Delano hasn't trashed this Wal-Mart yet, and it's been around for a couple of months. *slow handclap* I've visited three times. Once to ogle this fine new establishment in my hometown, the second time to buy things at their after Christmas clearance sale, and the third time was to go back for more after Christmas goodies. I don't live in Delano anymore (tear), but it's nice to see that the city is attempting to offer people some recreation and shopping. This place is pretty much a zoo any time after 10:00 a.m. I visited at 6:00 a.m., and. IT. WAS. A. DREAM. There were, like, three other customers in the store!!! Things I've yet to do: 1. If I could, I wouldn't even give one star. The customer service here is terrible, and the staff can't keep its cleanliness. Once I went in to try on some PJs and was told to put the items I was not interested back where I found them. Second, no one is ever in the fabrics/crafts department, so it is difficult to get fabrics cut and priced. I see more employees walking around the store than actually working. Horrible. read more

Outside-carts are everywhere! I don't blame the employees, but customers should always put the carts back! Diaper/Baby Wipes section is ALWAYS a mess and their items are ALWAYS out of stock. Craft area where acrylic paints are always a total mess. I have always left a pack of baby wipes in the cart at checkout (since it's a huge box) and always told the employee to scan it-and the employees do on previous trips have always done that, BUT today the cashier told me," Can you get the wipes?" So I carry it for her to scan (I didn't care much of it), but she added, "I will not go to the cart and scan it, if it's not heavy." Wow I have never experienced that in Walmart ever. Can't she just take the scan gun & scan it? She was just plain rude from the start, NO hello, NO thanks. She just handed me the receipt. How can Walmart hire people like this? Today I1 into Walmart and there was a door greeter putting stuff away in the clearance area I just so happen to take an item away from the Sun Put it back in the Shelf. The door greeter had no idea that I speak perfectly good English as she started to talk about me to the 2 handicapped elderly women .stating that we Mexicans are always throwing things and grabbing stuff and doing this and doing that never putting stuff where they go. I had taken the item away from my child and put it back on the shelf. These people need to know that they have people higher than them they need to answer to. All Walmarts should be all the same right? Wrong! I'm originally from this area and stopped here to pick up a gift and as soon as we entered the parking lot it felt so different than others and I've been to numerous Walmart's through California so I know it is not just the Bakersfield ones I'm referencing here. This Walmart is quite new and on the South Side of Delano where it is just the shopping center across the street from a Home Depot and about a mile or two from homes. The parking lot seemed too compact and on top of that it was extremely dirty. Shopping carts scattered around galore as if they didn't have staff collecting them throughout the day, I thought it was weird. The store setup is nearly identical to the Walmart on Rosedale but with an appearance on the outside like the Walmart by the East Hills Shopping Center. The floors looked like they haven't been cleaned a good while, actually saddens me to see this since I grew up in Delano/Earlimart. The products in the store were somewhat organized except the clothing but that happens in almost any store like Walmart due to the sheer chaos of customers. We chose to use the self check-out because we just had a few items and about half of the self check-out stations were closed and this is on a very busy Sunday! Why would you do such a thing? Then you have items and I mean multiple items left at the stations so when you go to scan the stuff you are buying, you can't place them on the counter. The workers can see this clearly but do not take the time to tidy it up. I do not expect high quality service nor do I expect the cleanliness to be like Target, even though some Targets are not always clean. But when the store opened within a year or so ago you would have to think it was be alot better than this. Whoever the Store Manager is should re-evaluate the employees work ethic because it reflects on everyone employed here. read more

I forget that Walmart is in town now and its nice to have. I haven't noticed but maybe I'm bias and blind to things being i'm from the town but the famous Wallmart people effect is not seen here. No scooterd flag waivers here. Just Mexicans and Filipinos with their offspring. Nicely laid out and makes quick in and outs easy. My only complaint really is the auto motive service desk, how do you expect a employee to service cars and work at a register at the same time. This Walmart is a great place to shop. However, what brings down the rating are employee's in customer service. At least a couple of times since opening at least two employee's were standing around gossiping rather than taking the time to help customers. When they finally finished their gab session they would greet the customer with. "What"? rather than may I help you. Perhaps they could use a bit more training or public relations etiquette. Today, my wife needed to return an item. You think things would be better. No, same two employees gabbing. Their response was "What"? rather than may I help you. Recommend under cover boss and check on employees attitude and public relations training in the customer service area. Overall, staff in the check out lines are doing great. Went into the store to buy some toiletry items and food for a trip down south from Fresno, when I purchased the groceries we had forgotten our other items in a bag with you know have to take with you or your charged. After paying for our two bags with of groceries we made it to the door and were apprehended like some thieves because according to them you took merchandise you forgot to pay for. I said your write, my girlfriend was goofing off on her phone, and I will purchase the small items we forgot to pay for. What happened instead was a inquisition for 10 minutes where they took out both the stuff we paid for and didn't to make sure my receipt matched. It was embarrassing. Lasly he said I have to wait a year to comeback to Walmart. I said why, because I negligently had forgotten 1 of 3 bags had stuff in it which I was going to pay for. I couldn't even get a toothbrush and aleve. Just stupid, bad place, make sure you pay for everything you walk out with, I would have the cashier read the reciept carefully to you and maybe bring a manager over to confirm your purchase. I would never go back. The dumb kid was talking about how they could get you a felony, obviously not knowing I wasn't committing a crime because I had ever intent to pay for it. Hard to get felonies on the basis of forgetting some pain medication, eye liner and a toothbrush because whse forgot hers. NEVER GO THERE especially if you are white. read more

Messy messy messy! They have a lot of youngsters that are not experience or was never trained in the proper ways of good customer service. Many of them seem unprofessional and dress unprofessional. But what do you expect from a minimum waged job? Some of their employees "associates" seem to not know their jobs. There have been a few times I've asked for help only for the associates to tell me to hold on while they get somebody who knows and usually that somebody who knows will ask other associates and eventually they are all looking at each other dumbfounded. The parking lot is a disaster for many stray shopping carts which seem to never be collected by the person(s) in charge of collecting all the carts. If you have a new car you might want to park far away from the store as possible as to these stray carts will dent and nick your paint job.
