Some CT Rest Areas are weird. There are the travel plaza ones, that are privately run, and therefore are efficiently run, with gas stations, drive though and fast food kiosks.
Then there are rest areas like this one, where time has somewhat passed them by. They have expansive picnic areas, even with grills, for those kinds of travelers who would stop and grill hamburgers. I think there are probably better places to do that nowadays than on the side of the interstate, but I dunno, maybe it's just me.
The open space is nice though, lots of trees and greenery, a good place to stretch your legs.
The biggest drawback of these rest areas is, since CT is broke, they can't afford to keep the rest areas open 24/7. Instead, there are portapotties during the off hours.
Maybe someday they'll be able to afford to keep them open. read more
