This is an old school rest stop, not a mini-mall full of fast food vendors, but flush toilets and coffee are here. Car, truck, and RV parking is labeled, but don't be surprised when a car or two uses the wrong side. Before you get on the entrance ramp, there is a Rv dump, so humans, pets, and the rig can all use the facilities.
Though there's no commercial spots or fast food, you're only a few minutes south of them in Cromwell and Rocky Hill. The entire rest stop is beneath Mount Higby and faces other peaks in the Hanging Hills section of the New England Scenic Trail. Though there's no trail access here, come back another time (parking off Route 66 in Meriden near Middlefield). Enjoy the foliage in Autumn. In winter and spring, as you drive north and descend Mt. Higby, keep an eye out for the waterfall off 91 after Country Club Road exit. read more
