They answered every question we had, met with us in person to explain concepts we were having a hard time understanding, and even allowed us to make a big last second change to our down payment at the very last minute, causing a lot of extra work for them. They never complained, were always friendly and patient, and just felt so much warmer and friendlier than I ever expected my lender to. I thought loans came from banks, but it turns out, with Erin and Melissa, it comes from warm humans with beating empathetic hearts, who actually care about you and do everything they can to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Oh yeah, and they DEFINITELY know their @#$%... Thanks Erin and Melissa! (And Jennifer too, who we didn't work with much but was also wonderful)!

I interviewed about 15 lenders and Erin made an impression I will NEVER forget! She even spent time on Saturday and Sunday helping me!!! She answered every question I had and provided very in-depth answers! She is no doubt an effective communicator, which I always appreciate! Last, but actually most important, her honesty was most appreciated. Integrity is everything to me and she went out of her way to ensure she disclosed every little detail. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ERIN!!! I'm writing this review because of that crazy one star review, if you look at his other reviews…read morethey are all 1 star. Tylan mortgage is top notch, A+, Andy is on his game and will take care of you without a doubt. I have used Tylan twice with no issues and am very happy with my experience.

Getting my mortgage through Tylan Mortgage was by far, the worst experience I've ever had with any…read morecompany. Literally, outside of personal matters of course like a family member dying, nothing has caused me more anxiety and stress and frustration as trying to get our loan through Tylan. Firstly, Andy works with zero urgency - throughout the entire process he requests you, the customer, to do to things instantly but then when you need him (the one who is actually getting paid) to do something it's all quiet on the western front. We were watching rates move up daily and for some reason he wouldn't lock in despite me asking about locking in multiple times. I had to eventually lock in with a different lender (took like 20 mins to do with a normal broker) just to get him to finally lock in - inexplicable why he would cost his clients thousands of dollars like this. Then when he did finally lock in (at a much worse rate than if he had just done it like normal at the first opportunity), it was with some crazy fly by night bank in the Midwest that wanted mountains of paperwork outside of the norm. Everyone that I talked to, including several financial professionals, had never heard of such docs being requested for a owner occupied home mortgage and always remarked with things like: "Why would they need that?" "Is this a legitimate lender?" "What kind of company is working on your mortgage?" This lender asked for my CPA to write a letter stating that the loan would not be a burden on my finances and Andy said he had seen this before and encouraged me to find a way to get my CPA to write this letter. When I spoke to my CPA about it he sent me a letter from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants explaining that CPAs are not even allowed to write these kind of letters. Given that Andy had already come across this before (probably from using weird lenders like this in the past), he should have already known that what he was asking me to get was not even allowed. Oh another great example of Andy's incompetence - he did not ask me in his initial doc request to get tax transcripts from the IRS. So then A MONTH later into the loan process, he finally tells me that he needs these transcripts. But the IRS' processing time for them is like 2 weeks which was less time than we had before the closing date. A totally unnecessary (and stressful) position to be in when as I would come to find out, requesting tax transcripts is part of any other professional broker's initial doc request. We would have had plenty of time to get these multiple times over if he had just asked for them on day 1. These are just a few out of dozens of stressful problems created by Tylan during the process. The other main thing I would caution people about is the lack of communication. Andy can blame the lender or whoever he wants for the docs requested etc. but he has no one to blame other than himself for not communicating professionally with his customers. He'll say all the right things on the phone like: "I'll be working all weekend so just reach out anytime if you need anything." So then on Saturday at Noon I'd run into a paperwork issue and call him, no answer. Call again an hour later, no answer, leave a voicemail, send an email, and then he'd get back to me at like 2pm on Monday. This happened multiple times, classic over promise and under deliver and was always very difficult to reach. And when I did manage to talk to him, he refused to answer my questions. For example, I asked him 3 separate times who the lender was that he was trying to get my loan approved with and he never answered. He'd be like "oh don't worry, they're a big one." He flat out would not answer the question and I was only able to find out who this bananas lender was when I signed the final loan docs to discover Plains Commerce Bank - a tiny bank with only 9 branches in North and South Dakota - yeah, they're a mortgage powerhouse alright. Well, he finally got the loan done literally hours before our 45 day closing/signing time so you might think kudos are in order but no, that was due to endless work on my part and others working late at night and on weekends to fix problems created by Andy like some of the ones I've outlined above. And then even after we closed on the house we were still hounded by Plains Commerce Bank for months because they said Tylan messed up something on our loan paperwork and they wanted us to provide them with MORE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS... MONTHS AFTER CLOSING. And of course, as you can predict by now, Andy did nothing but tell me that we had no choice but to give these docs to them... and as you also can predict by now, he was wrong. We didn't and they eventually gave up and went away and sold the loan to a large lender, that people outside of the northwest block of Sioux City, have actually heard of.
