This is THE park in Santa Maria. It's huge, it's dog-friendly. There is a dog park divided into two sections: small dogs and big dogs. I saw a place for pony rides. It turned out to be a fine place to walk our dogs while we were in town. There is a small man-made lake with ducks and geese. Unfortunately, this made for a ton of land mines that I had to avoid lest my cocker spaniel take too much interest in them. read more

From a parent's perspective, this is a great park to take young kids. My littles enjoy the nice playground structures. The playgrounds seem to be in good shape. There are plenty of shady spots to take a picnic. You just have to be ready to fight off swarms of ducks, geese, and birds off your lunch. The birds are constantly being fed here so they are people friendly and again; they are lots of fun for young kids. Into the great wide open, under them skies of blue (thanks, Tom Petty!) is a Santa Barbara County park named Waller Park. Waller Park is a clean, beautiful, well maintained 150+ acres park just south of Santa Maria, with expansive areas that offer many recreational opportunities for the community and its visitors. It has nine day-use areas in the park, a lakeside terrace & a gazebo that may be reserved for special events or occasions, when permissible. There are diverse environs from large ponds to pine tree dry woodlands, to lush grassy fields filled with shade trees, all of which invite the public to enjoy nature and the great outdoors. Recreational opportunities include activities such as a Disk Golf (Frisbee disks) course, volleyball & basketball courts, ball fields, hike, bike & jogging trails, and multiple playgrounds for children throughout the park. One may fish in the ponds, however it is posted, "Catch & Release Only". One's furry friends may accompany their owners throughout the park, but must be on a leash. Adjacent to Waller Park is WOOF Pac Park, an off-leash dog park. In the beautiful tree-filled grassy areas, there are tables with grills for eating or relaxing. A downside to this beautiful county park, is that there are too few individual picnic tables available throughout this very large park, yet there are numerous benches located in the many park areas. Two ponds feature fountains and other water features such as a stream and small waterfall. One of the ponds contains an island for the various types of waterfowl that inhabit this area. There are many benches situated throughout the pond areas to sit and enjoy the beauty & activity of the Anatidae. The park has limited RV camping areas; some sites have electricity and water. Camping is limited to reservations only. Rules related to the CV-19 pandemic include maintaining social distancing, face coverings in certain areas & when around others outdoors. Santa Barbara County Parks has posted a sign advising the public upon entering, "Crowded parks lead to closed park." Their staff monitors the areas and will close the park should it become too crowded. read more

This is such a great and beautiful up park to visit. We love taking our two dogs out for a walk on the weekends. The park is huge!! Honestly, one of the biggest I've been to before. Tons of picnic and BBQ spots for big to small events, and tons of grass area. They have a disc golf course, which I have to say, is soo much fun. They got catch and release fishing ponds, playgrounds, sand volleyball court, dog park for small and big dogs, and plenty of space for a nice stroll. One of favorite sights is seeing all the ducks in the pond. They stroll freely around the ponds so watch out for duck poop. They have a 23 hole disc golf course which takes youn the entire park. We have yet to finish all of them past 12, and that itself is already over an hour. Their dog parks is also pretty big which separates the small from the big dogs. My fur babies enjoy coming here all the time and the walk takes us at least a mile going around the whole park. Beautiful park, and really well maintained and pretty clean. read more

This is the largest park in Santa Maria. So big, you can get a little lost if you're new to it. There are plenty of reserved areas for your next scheduled event, a couple spots for volleyball, a hidden basketball court that needs TLC, a pretty big duck pond, frisbee golf, a few playgrounds, and a dog park in the back. It hosts a few events and fundraisers throughout the year and it's a nice place to take the kids and the dogs. The grounds are taken care of by the city and I have always had a good experience here. It was one of the first places a friend took me to when I first visited. If you need a large area for an event or party, book Lakeside Terrace. It's huge. Cement tables in a semi-circle, two Santa Maria BBQ pits, and a nice view. Parking can be a little tricky since the additional parking is in the back, accessed by going through the whole park if you come through the front. read more

My girlfriend and I love to hammock. We have hammocked in this park plenty times before today. But today, we were hammocking and a park ranger told us we were not allowed to tie anything up to the trees. There is no signage or anything indicating that this is a rule for the park. There's a disc golf course, a dog park, plenty of children's play areas, and a fountain in a pond, where apparently fishing is acceptable. Some of the manmade areas are showing some substantial age, such as a basketball court I came across, and the gazebo pond looks like it's filled with tar. But the trees are magnificent, bird songs cascade from all directions, and sometimes you just need to get out of the car and walk around a bit. This is a great place to do just that. read more

The bumps at the park are too high up it hit the bottom of my Nissan and cracked it... and apparently alcohol is allowed people get drunk there and get rowdy they have ducks but no one at the park takes care of them we found one bleeding from feathers being plucked off from breeding season we ask the "park ranger" whole entire staff at the lounge by the way.. no one knew what to do they said, "some bird lady comes and takes care of them" idiots working over idiots... had to take the poor duck to the animal shelter read more

I am going to rate this park in three areas, and have the overall score as the average (though maybe some parts should weigh more than others...) Disc Golf: 3 stars. It's a decent disc golf park, doesn't cost anything to play, and covers a good amount of the park. I enjoy playing here if I am in town. Be careful of the disc golf culture, if you are unfamiliar. It's pretty much people without jobs (LIKE ME) who drink beer and talk to their buddies in the middle of the day. It's greatttttt. Playground/Kid stuff: 3 stars. Kids seem to have a lot of fun here, and there are small playgrounds throughout the park as well as ponds to feed ducks and a lot of grass to play games. Safety: 1 star. Potential for getting mugged/raped/kidnapped is terrifyingly high after it gets a little dark, or even just before it gets dark. I know a ton of people come here to do their drug deals and you hear all the time about robberies/stabbings/rapes here at night. WHAT THE HECK? So that being said, for some reason I still play disc here though early in the day and not by myself. Don't let your kids come here without adult supervision, and definitely avoid this park all together past evening time. read more

I got a drive thru tour of Waller Park so I can only review what I saw in the 15 minutes we were driving. Here's how we did... Waller Park is HUGE! It has numerous activities including BBQ's, disk golf course, tons of open grass space, numerous sand boxes, and so many old, beautiful trees! I saw so many families having fun and children playing. Some of the areas require you to apply for a daily permit while the smaller areas are 1st come, 1st serve basis. My favorite part of my tour thru Waller was the trees. So many different species and the different colors of green. It was so nice and tranquil, wow! Will I again? Yes, next time BBQ with the family and maybe some disk golf! Thanks! read more

We come to Santa Maria once or twice a year and we always make a point to come here. The duck pond is a huge hit with the kids. Play structures are nice and I'm not sure if it's still there but there was a pony ride as well. Substantial bathrooms are of course not the cleanest but compared to many park bathrooms I'm used to in my hometown these are really nice. Lots of trees and open spaces. Great place for parties. In the day time I would not be afraid to come here alone. The park is packed full of people. Never been here at night but certainly nothing making me nervous during our daytime visits. read more

We love this space. It's surprisingly large for being in a city. Ample grounds to host multiple kids play areas, bbq pits, fields and a pond situated in a corner. I bring the kiddos whenever we find the time and it's always lovely to make a few laps around. A dog park is included in the back area and they do have it enclosed to allow off leash play. read more

There's a newer playground near the dog park and its pretty cute! Brought my son to a paly date there recently and all the little ones seemed to have fun playing. It was a cool design as well. Seems like a loop you can cycle all the way through without getting off of the equipment. My only suggestion is for their website to post directions to the different park areas they have pictured so navigating is a bit easier. :) read more

Every person in my group loved this park and the disc golf course. A+ to the course and an A to the park. Easy to get to, Beautiful surroundings, great accommodations. Numerous restrooms and concessions (both permanent and mobile). After spending the day here I returned home and promptly asked my wife if we could move. read more

This is a beautiful park with a lot of playgrounds and a lot of grassy space to run around. There a grills and tables everywhere for cookouts. On the weekend, there are real ponies for the kids to ride and (one of my favorites) snow cones for sale. Oh I can't forget the duck pond! I love riding my bike around the park.
