They make your business. We're on a roadtrip for 3 and somewhat weeks, visiting from The Netherlands. And of course, again, I bought too much Christmas ornaments. - Little note, on every trip I try to buy some local ornaments so when Christmas arrives I can look at a tree full of memories. - This time a Departement 56 Harley Davidsons motel. And that are not things to get in our already overweight luggage easily. So we considered sending it home. We first made inquiries at FedEx in Nashville because we walked by. Estimated costs: over $200. For that price I a can buy an extra suitcase and pay for extra luggage. So we looked further. In Gatlinburg we visited this post office learning that our package can be send to Europe for a little over $50, including our map and two travelguides we didn't need anymore. Huge difference. But that's not the only reason for the 5 star rating. The guy behind the counter is. He took all the time in the world helping us to fill in the forms, get the stuff boxed, and giving advice about some choices to made. In the mean time he helped several other local customers with quick questions without giving us the feeling he wasn't totally there for us. And in the post office hangs a painting depicting him and a little boy. Make sure to ask him about it. It has to do with 9/11 and I had trouble keeping my eyes dry. And no worries, he wasn't pushy, I asked him about the painting and that made him tell the story. And excuse any grammar and spelling mistakes. English is not my first language. And if that isn't bad enough, my Apple device keeps changing words into 'proper Dutch'. Yes, you've guessed right, my first language.

Lazy, untrustworthy, and rude. I have a home business that i can't always get things except through mail and I have lost thousands because of it. And when trying to call to make a complaint, Townsend blocked my calls. So unprofessional as well. Less then 0

Call me old fashioned, but when I'm on vacation (which is rare these days), I love to send out postcards; and I mean a LOT of postcards. In June of 2017, we were vacationing in Kentucky (Mammoth Caves & Corvette Museum) and Tennessee (Dollywood, Gatlinburg & the Great Smoky Mountains), and were staying in a cabin in Townsend, TN. At every destination, I picked up a few postcards, and filled them out every night. After a few days, I had amassed over 40 postcards and needed to mail them. In an effort to save a few nickels, I wanted to get postcard stamps instead of regular "Forever" stamps. I "Googled" post offices and found the Townsend Post Office just off the main drag in Townsend (E. Lamar Alexander Pkwy). I walked in the front door and was initially confused as all I saw was post office boxes. That's when I saw the roll-down door to the main lobby and a sign that stated the service counter was closed every day from 11:45 AM - 1:00 PM for lunch. Lucky for me, it was 12:55 PM so I opted to wait. At approximately 1:04 PM, a courteous lady opened the roll-down door and courteously sold me 50 postcard stamps. Yeah, I sent out nearly all 50, and sorry if you did not "make the cut". No muss, no fuss here. Exactly what'd you would likely expect.

Unsafe…read more Regular disappearance of checks mailed from this Post Office Location during 2025.Neighbors and many posts on NextDoor regularly from others who have had their checks taken, both from the big secure outside box, but also despite bringing our mail inside the facility to either an interior secure drop or handing directly to a postal clerk. This has been Increasing in frequency Jan-Mar 2026. This poster has had 3 bill checks taken in just the last few weeks (yes I use a sharpie) The thieves seem to quickly identify what is a billpay type of mailing, because it is only the bill pay checks to Utilities, Medicare, State of TN that are going missing---the personal correspondence seems to be making it to its destination. Mail brought directly to the local distribution center does not seem to 'get lost' or stolen. The problem/thievery Seems to be specific to this particular brick n mortar location on Municipal Center Drive. Despite several of us speaking to staff at this local facility nothing seems to have been done. Calling the Knox Cty Sheriff for support to engage with this local usps location has been pointless, as the Sheriff's office declines jurisdiction and states they won't even discuss it with the local post office. So, we have now opened a case for investigation via the US Postal Inspector, but every citizen who has experienced this must open their own individual case. If this has happened to you, please file a case at tel. 877-876-2455.

The one nearest me (Farragut) happens to be the friendliest with a convenient location and customer service that beats all other locations in town. I could give a shout-out to every employee because I have NEVER had a clerk who was short with me, perturbed by my questions or not willing to help. Their customer service is premiere. We are now in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak but the mail still steadily churns on. I needed to make a personal visit to this Post Office last week and was pleasantly surprised that they had clearly marked 6' intervals on the floor with red tape and then also separated the clerks from the public (as much as is possible) with a solid line of red tape in front of the counter. There were three clerks on duty at the time and each were wearing gloves. It was obvious to me that they were taking this threat seriously and doing their best to do their job and to be safe for themselves and the general public. I certainly appreciate what they do and pray for their safety. Way to go! Thanks for being on the front line and doing all that you do with friendless, accuracy and swiftness.
