We had to put our dog down and this place was nothing but sympathetic and amazing to us. Gave us…read moreall the time we wanted to spend with him before we had to say good bye. They were super busy but we still had no issue getting in and having the procedure done. I read a lot of negative remarks about the staff here but I was treated with the utmost respect and care. When I went to pick up the clay paw print they included a card with all the staff's name and even a little note from the lady who helped us. I've brought my other dog and cat here prior to this and still had an amazing experience. Highly recommend.

TERRIBLE, the receptionist was rude, the vet himself was egotistical, the experience was dreadful,…read moreand the bill was horrendous. I came in for a rabies and distemper shot, that's it, my dog is very healthy, energetic, and all around great condition. They wanted to do atleast 5 different tests for things I had already told them he was good on. I recently moved to Altoona and I lost most of my dogs paperwork in the move, (not the best thing, I know) the main doctor proceeded to (in a nice way) hint that I was incompetent. Thanks. I came in for two things and I asked about the anal gland expression, after I left and paid my bill I got to the car and thought to myself that's a little high, just to find out it was almost $40, I could have gotten it somewhere else for a fraction of that. I went back in to ask why it was so much and hopefully repute it, no the receptionist thought it was better to pull an excuse out of thin air and roll her eyes. Nice. The only employee here who has compassion for animals and not their wallets was a very nice younger girl (pretty sure it was the vets assistant). I paid almost $140 for something I could've paid 1/2 or less somewhere else, I guess I paid for the convenience and the horrible customer service. NEVER WASTE A PENNY THERE, unless you like being made to feel like a terrible pet owner for not wanting unnecessary tests. *I also don't want to talk to you further to explain my situation, as I see you posting on everyone else's. You ruined it the first time.

Very disappointed in the care of my pet. Took him there for nail trim - he *is* very nervous about…read moreit so we decided to take him to a professional. This is the second time my dog came out with one or more severely bleeding toes. One time is a mistake, we gave them some more chances. No apology. (They still manage to charge us for the "challenging dog" fee though...) I 100% understand my nervous dog maybe will require an additional fee. But I also expect them to actually know how to do it (as professionals!) so that he won't be bloodied when he comes out. And constantly being injured during nail trims does not help his fear! Overall, just disappointed with how they treated my dog, and with how they responded to their error.

This place is horrible and is only concerned about up selling. Needed a new vet as mine had…read morepassed away. Called and got a quote on pricing and explained what I needed Rabie vaccine, and yearly boosters, and needed to extend my heart worm medication. I clearly told them that I was uninterested in heartworm check as I have vet records going back yearly showing they have been under the care of a vet every year since they were a puppy. Was clearly told that a heart worm test could be waved but would require a waiver. Arrived on date, then was told they would not accept animal without having a heartworm test. I explained what had been previously been said. Then got a lecture (very kindly) about how animals can die from heart worm and they did not see a prescription in the yearly records. I explained that I buy them at the previous vet before I leave (no prescription). Obviously taking your animal every year to a vet does not show you are concerned about their health. Next round, if you perform the test, will you give them their rabies and yearly's? Why YES we will do that. Next question, what if the test come back in 3 days and are positive and I request not to treat (I am the owner and can make decisions for my animal). Will they still be allowed to be a patient, ......well....why would you do that sir..don't you care for your animal? (Back to I bring them to the vet every year..they have records in hand). ...so in the end we established taking your animal yearly to a vet is not adequate pet love. That they will not allow you to chose the level of care your pet can receive as if you choose "no" to anything they want to do, they won't take care (where the best interest of the animal here), and ultimately they are going to make extra $60 dollars to do an un-needed heartworm test. I even offered to show them the remaining unexpired heartworm medicine I was using which should prove I had a prescription in the last however long Heart Worm tablets are good for... Anyways, new vet appt. 2 day from now, situation explained. If this vet will value my wishes about pet care, I will re-post that vet. I'll leave it up to you to determine if I'm the ranting irritated customer or tried to ration with a provider concerning the best care for my animals. NOTE: I am a health care provider and I must respect the wishes of the minor's parents who come into my care, regardless of whether I agree (with some exceptions of course (abuse, gross negligence of choice, etc.). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STARTING SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR YOUR ANIMAL CARE.

Warning: This is a long, well worth review. Our baby girl,…read moreNova had an injury being her spunky high energy self and tore one of her CCLs. When we took her to our local vet, it was confirmed and we were informed there was a 80% chance she would injury her other one. In the meantime we scheduled with an orthopedic surgeon an hour from us (this was the closest to us). That weekend, she did indeed end up tearing the other one. When we met with the orthopedic surgeon, she seemed distant and not compassionate at all. When I would ask questions, she seemed threatened as if I shouldn't be questioning things. When we left the appointment my husband spoke up and said let's find a different surgeon. Bless his heart, we weren't even out of the parking lot and he was searching. He came across Dr. Jacobson at The Hometown Vet. Of course we did our research since we knew what she needed. I called The Hometown Vet, and was welcomed by a pleasant receptionists that connected me with Dr. Jacobson himself due to my specific questions. He was genuine on the phone and so willing to go out of his way. We were able to get Nova in, in a decent amount of time for her surgery. When we arrived, we were welcomed by very friendly staff and the facility was very clean. Dr. Jacobson entered our room with a very friendly welcome and was very compassionate about Nova's situation. Pick up day: Today, we picked Nova up from surgery. Once again, all staff (staff I hadn't met yet) were all so friendly and welcoming. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Franken to go over our discharge for Nova. She was also very friendly, compassionate, and thorough. We definitely wish we lived closer, The Hometown Vet would become our primary care. For anyone near and far, this was by far our best vet experience ever, and we have 6 dogs if that tells you anything:)
