Walker Burger is always a stop when my husband and I take motorcycle trips to Tahoe or Reno. The Walker burger, fries and a chocolate-banana malt shake are always good. With the friendly staff and a nice outdoor garden/picnic style setting to eat at, we definitely recommend stopping here if you're driving past in the summer. read more

The reason I'm not giving more stars is specifically for how inconsistent this place is. The food can be AMAZING but also can be be sub par. The hours are unpredictable at best, with the message machine even saying days and hours open will be "intermittent" due to staffing and weather. read more

It was one year ago today, my then new wife and I were honeymooning on an 11/day motorcycle trip. we stopped at Walker Burger for lunch, and have been comparing burgers to theirs ever since.... nothing really comes close. what a perfect gem of a place to find I the middle of nowhere. the outdoor garden seating was perfect, the food was superb. I get away to Walker whenever I can, and I've eaten at Walker Burger several times. Yes, service can be slow when their grill backs up, but it's nice to sit under the trees, watch the birds and the little kids playing, and just relax for awhile. (Service is never slow for milkshakes, soft-serv and whatnot; it's only the grill that gets backed up.) Burgers are tasty, and so are onion rings; fries are so-so. I've never had a milkshake but my husband swears by them. In summary: it's a little desert oasis that sells hamburgers and shakes. I always look for them to be open when I visit Walker in the springtime, and I'm always a little disappointed when they close for the fall/winter. read more

We love this place. Great food, the best shakes and a really neat atmosphere. The staff is friendly and the owner is a great guy. Yeah, it's got no indoor dining, it's only seasonal and you can get some flies, but the place is kept clean, the food always hits the spot and there's not much else around anyway. Great service, fabulous burgers, a beautifully maintained garden to eat in. Everything is clean. They even have a bucket with windshield washer solution and paper towels on the side so you can clean the last 300 miles of bug guts off the window before you go. I've never had a better vanilla milkshake, it's perfection. The Ortega burger was pretty good - and finally a burger stop that does onion rings right. It's a popular stop so expect a long wait, bring a hat you may be standing in the hot sun a while waiting to make your order. Dining is outdoor and the area is very nice, but at times it can be difficult to get a table and flies/wasps can be a problem. Still, if you're a foodie, totally worth it. read more

We stopped here on our way home from Lake Tahoe. The garden patio is beautiful and offers plenty of sunny and cool shaded tables. We split the western macho burger- delicious! A must stop if you are staying in the area or driving by. They have a great selection of burgers and other stuff too, but I cannot vouch for any thing except the burgers and fries. The meat is so juicy amd flavorful, nestled between a fresh bun. The bun is soft but more than capable of holdig everything together. Just as good as the food is the garden eating area. Big trees cover the area givinv you some cool shade on a hot day. If you enjoy the sunn they have that too. They have tables in the grassy area or they will even provide a picnic blanket for you. read more

We stopped at this old fashioned hamburger drive in Wednesday and what a terrific surprise! Although you walk up to the window to order, the seating was a little oasis of shaded picnic tables and a beautifully tended garden. The rest rooms were spic and span (always a welcome surprise when they hand you the key from behind the counter). The burgers were made just the way we asked - and the fries were extra crispy as we had requested. Overall - a definite place to stop on that long stretch of Hwy 395. read more

Ordered two burgers and was asked twice if I wanted onion on them. Twice I stated, "just cheese." 30 minutes later, I get two burgers with globs of thousand island and all the fixings minus onion of course. Burgers were good but some guy claiming to be the owner verbally accosted a family eating there because their daughter littered. I mean he was physically threatening them, red in the face yelling. Walker Burger is indeed a delight. The tree-shaded dining area is a charming grotto with wild birds, funky water fountains, and well-spaced picnic tables. Driving north along HWY 395 in Walker, CA, you will find a nice mountain eatery that serves the most delicious hamburgers and fries! It's a perfect stop when traveling, although it's great for locals, too! They also serve ice cream and shakes.... The garden dining is beautiful and comfortable. What a fun spot. read more

While we ordered the girl at the window would smirk and roll her eyes while we read the menu and ordered she even snapped at us when we asked for water so we asked to get our money refunded before the food was finished so we could eat elsewhere. The girl said that wasn't an option and continued to argue with me while belittling our request.the owner himself then told us that we either had to get the food or he'd call the sheriff and because it was a small town and the sheriffs ate there all the time we'd get escorted off the property. on our way out the owner even "thanked" us for "buying" him lunch. We got screwed out of 17$ and threatened. The money isn't the issue its how we were treated so unfairly because these small semi successful business owners know they can get away with it. I'm confused as to why I was instantly treated bad considering all the positive things I've heard. Absurd read more
