That same shirt was $16.99 brand new and selling for $4.99 at Goodwill. It is t like the used clothing is curated to justify the pricing. It's all low end brands and most of the items are heavily used. Granted I am a knowledgeable thrifter but it was crazy to see how heavily used and overpriced the items were. Maybe online people will spend that, but an online shopper is different than a thrift store shopper. It almost feels like a consignment store, not a thrift store anymore. It's a cute shop in a cute location, and I'll still stop in for the thrill of it, but I don't expect save a dollar anymore. But this was in November 2021, and they had just recently made their window display very much in the spirit of the holidays, and who can resist gold sparkly lights and goodies? Me, anyway; it caught my attention and drew me in. The store markets itself as a "made and found" store. They have jewelry from independent artists, candles made locally for their store, and other items similar to what you'd find in lots of lovely little shops. But they also have "found" items, like antique desks, or sideboards, or the like. They have really lovely candles; in fact, when I went to in there was an intoxicating scent of a candle they were burning--I wasn't the only one who thought so, because it was sold out. The shopkeepers were welcoming and friendly, but did not hang over me or disturb me while I was wandering the store. When I was looking at something one of them might point out something else that might be of interest, but I didn't feel like I was being overly sold to nor did I feel I was being ignored. They were also very careful to wrap and bag my items well so that there were no accidents. I certainly didn't intend to buy as much as I did when I went in, but I have no regrets--and I have an adorable advent calendar that I can't wait to use this year! Many of whom are refugees. No one makes a dime here. And no one pays a dime. Getting ready for a major renovation, I went through every closet and nook and cranny and collected anything I didn't need anymore. It was the perfect time to buy new towels, so I donated all of my old towels. All of the redecorating I've done in the past, filled my linen closet to the brim with nice bedding sets. I bagged them up and donated those too. Clothes I don't wear anymore. Snow pants and coats that never get used. Dishes that were gifts that I didn't want. Old utensils that have been replaced. My closets have never looked better, and refugees without basic necessities can get help starting their new lives here.
